ANNOUNCE: openssh-1.2.1pre18
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have just uploaded 1.2.1pre18. This is mainly merges from the OpenBSD tree, bugfixes for Solaris and libc5 Linux systems. It should fix all reported bugs except the snprintf problems on some older Solaris versions. Please test thoroughly, my hope is to have a stable version released before Jan 1. At this point the main holdup is Solaris. I have

Handling of password & account expirations
Hello, There has been an annoyance with OpenSSH that has been bugging me lately. It pays no attention to pw_change and pw_expire fields from the passwd file for users by default. Thus even if the admin has set a user's account to expire 5 days ago they can still login. So one might say, just add 'UseLogin yes' and all of your problems will be solved. This of course is not a good

Rhosts-RSA authentication broken
Hello ! I think a problem was introduced in openssh-2.3.0p1 which is still there in the latest openssh-2.5.2p1. I just noticed it before my vacation and could not send this mail earlier than today. The problem is: You can't use the Rhosts-RSA authentication based on the hosts.equiv file and the host keys. The only possible way to do rhosts-RSA authentication is to allow the usage of the

ANNOUNCE: openssh-1.2.2p1
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 This is a patch release which contains fixes to all the problems which have been reported over the last month. Most importantly: OpenSSL-0.9.5 has exposed a bug in RSA key generation on systems which lack a /dev/random (Solaris, HPUX, SCO). On such systems this port was not properly initialising OpenSSL's entropy pool. This results in lower

Support for here documents with sftp client in OpenSSH 2.5.1p 1-1 (RH Linux 6.2 [2.2.x kernel])
Damien, I was going down the path of public key authentication when I encountered problems. I've been discussing it off-line using the simple example of creating a key pair with no passphrase for an account on "myserver", then trying to connect to myserver using the "ssh -i id_dsa myserver" command. It's not working, so we're debugging now (see below). If you

Portable OpenSSH Solaris UseLogin Issue
Greetings, In order to use solaris's BSM (Basic security module) also called c2 audit, which logs specific kernel calls depending on your audit_control, I would need to use login(1) to log users exec calls and whatnot because Portable OpenSSH does not have <bsm/audit.h> support, now that would mean I would have to enable Uselogin in sshd_config in order for that to work. I am running

OpenSSH/scp ->> F-Secure SSH server Problems
Hi, Is there some know problem between the 'scp' client in OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 and F-Secure's SSH 2.4.0 server? The client is running on a Linux (2.2.17) box and server is running on Win2K. When I try to transfer files it asks me for the password (which I provide) then it hangs. Using 'scp -v' didn't provide any helpful info; it's as though the problem happened before

OpenSSH's UseLogin option allows remote access with root privilege.
OpenSSH's UseLogin option allows remote access with root privilege. 1. Systems affected: The default installation of OpenSSH is not vulnerable, since UseLogin defaults to 'no'. However, if UseLogin is enabled, all versions of OpenSSH prior to 2.1.1 are affected. 2. Description: If the UseLogin option is enabled the OpenSSH server (sshd)

Problems on RedHat Sparc Linux
I tried setting rhost and rhostrsa authentication to no in /etc/ssh/ssh_config. That didn't work. When I added "UsePrivilegedPorts no" to /etc/ssh/ssh_config, it gave me a syntax error. I tried using ssh -P hostname, which locked up on authenticating to host. Someone I know who uses openssh on an Alpha Linux host has the same problem, but the ports are different even for him
