OpenSSH too many files open
My company is running OpenSSH 2.5.1 (via inetd) and over time it appears
that OpenSSH sessions are not being properly terminated on the server. The
basic symptom is that thousands of files are opened and not being let go of
as users close them, eventually taking us to the 4000 open file limit.
I have seen on some online man pages with an IdleTimeout option, although it
does not appear to work for

Idletimeout patch
While I was updating our ssh-servers, I rewrote my old patch that adds
idletimeout (just like in old ssh1) parameter to openssh. Since reapplying
the patch for all new versions of openssh is not fun at all, I would like
to have it included in the official openssh, if you consider the patch
worthy.
Unlike ClientAlive, idletimeout works for both protocol versions. It also
works together with

Idletimeout patch, third attempt
Here is my third attempt at the idletimeout patch. I tried to address
the points which Marcus Friedl brought up.
It is actually bigger than the previous patches, but not as intrusive.
It is big because it moves some stuff from serverloop.c to packet.c.
- I moved all the logic to packet.c. This means that I also had to move
the actual select() call, which used to be in serverloop.c to packet.c.

SecureCRT and Wine 0.9.4
Hi,
I installed Wine 0.9.4 package for Suse 10 and configured it with WineTools 0.9.3jo. Internet
Explorer 6 and other Windows software installs and run fine. I have a problem running SecureCRT
(version 5.0.0 and 5.0.4). I used the suggestion found in the application DB, i.e. installing with
version=winxp and run it with version=win98. The installation run fine but when I run the
application

IdleTimeout patch did not get in?
Doing a search in the list archives, I see that in 2001/2002 there was
a patch made available for IdleTimeout keyword, for example:
http://marc.info/?l=openssh-unix-dev&m=99838019319356&w=2
Looks like that patch did not make it in the following versions of
OpenSSH - is there a reason why - any chance of the patch getting
back in?
I do know about ClientInterval, but I think I need

secureCRT 3.3 -> openssh v3.7pl (checkpoint firewall)
Client - secureCRT 3.3 outside the firewall (Checkpoint)
Server - openssh v3.7 on an aix51 rs6k inside the fw
The firewall lets in the first packet but blocks the second with the
message: ssh 1.x not allowed. The connection gets reset. Here is the
trace from the client:

Faked samba packages / rootkit?
Does anybody know of these samba packages?
http://ftp.cvut.cz/samba/samba-latest.tar.gz
AFAICS they are faked and contain some kind of rootkit (you can see
this in the history below. the server this history is from is taken
offline for security reasons, and nobody is there till 7th Jan I
can't give you more details)

Winbindd and idletimeout on the LDAP server
Hi
We have a problem with samba (winbind) when we enable idletimeout on the
OpenLDAP servers. If it is set we sometimes get an error:
mhansen@scenic32:~> smbclient -Umhansen //cups/p6
Password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUT
The log entries (log.wb-DOMAIN)on the DOMAIN MEMBER server (cups in this
case) are:

smbd died - why?
Hi out there...
We just had a hub go down in spectacular fashion - lots of smoke, VERY
bad smell, no network connection, melted plastic - very exciting stuff
on a dull afternoon!
But - it took out the smbd daemon and all those processes running from
the affected PC's with it. Why would it do that? I couldn't get the
smbd to start either by "killall -HUP inetd" or by

SecureCRT, OpenSSH, and keys
Hello all. I have been searching the web for a formula to get openssh and securecrt ssh2 keys working properly. Does anyone have a set of directions?
I have attempted creating keys in securecrt and converting them (ssh-keygen) to OpenSSH keys. I have attempted using OpenSSH's keys, but nothing seems to take. Any advice will help. Thank you.

SecureCRT
Good day,
I have installed the latest version of wine with yum on Fedora Core 10. I have installed the latest stable version of securecrt 6.1.4. All goes well. I start up securecrt and log onto a session it asks for a username and then hangs?
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

If it's anything like the rooms I saw last year...some rooms have
"wardrobes" meaning that you have a unit with a shelf, a "closet" cabinet
type thing, and about 5 drawers. If you have lots of clothes, bring extra
storage containers because thos drawers can't really hold much. Or don't
bring so many clothes:)
I think some of the two room doubles have huge-ass floor

FYI Incompatibilities between recent versions of OpenSSH and Sun SSH
These problem aren't bugs per se but rather major version differences.
Sun has finally published a FAQ on their SSH two days ago
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=finfodoc%2F50465&zone_32
=sshd The problem is rooted in the fact that Sun developed their SSH
based on OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 That version came out in February of 2001.
There have been a number of changes since then and

Samba and connections to LDAP timeout
Hi
We have an all SAMBA Domain (all samba-3.0.23d) running with two
OpenLDAP servers (2.3.27).
We experience quite a few NT_STATUS_IO_TIMEOUTs when using smbclient.
Windows clients just experience delays (up to several minutes).
I've done some debugging:
On the client i issue:
smbclient -Umhansen //lfs1/mhansen
lfs1 is a domain member server.
On lfs1 (log level 10) i get the following in

Sambaserver slows down, too many smbd processes
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi folks,
maybe my problem was discussed before, but I'm just too busy to browse
the whole mailinglist at the moment.
I'm running Samba 3.0.14a(sernet) on a Debian Sarge with LDAP-Backend.
After some days, the users aren't able to load their profiles from the
server. In fact, no datas can be transfered from/to the sambaserver.
