Fwd: [Cryptography] Why aren’t we using SSH for everything?
There were a few notes in this thread that may indicate
open areas for development. I forward merely as FYI.

sftp Client for Windows XP
Folks,
Excuse my ignorance on the subject but I'm new to OpenSSH and have been
tasked to write a 'sftp' Client for a home-grown application that runs on a
Windows platform.
The answers to my questions is probably on the List Archives but I'm not
able to find it even after a few search attempts.
So here goes...
1. Is it possible to even write a custom 'sftp' client for

Also, what compiler did you use to compile OpenSSH? If you compile OpenSSH
(and openssl and zlib if possible) with optimization disabled (-O0) does the
error still occur?

[olug] TINC
IPsec Pre Shared Key for enterprise wireless is worse than PPTP according
to https://www.cloudcracker.com/blog/2012/07/29/cracking-ms-chap-v2/ .
Make sure IPsec is used with certificates instead.
tinc is an educational project sponsored by a university aiming to grow
awareness of encryption over the public internet. It does not have a
marketing department. Criticism is welcome. Think of

[PATCH 0/9] drm/nouveau/kms: A bunch of runtime_pm fixes
While working on refactoring how we handle connector hotplugging/probing
+ a bunch of misc DP stuff, I found a bunch of runtime_pm errors that
were mostly introduced by me at one point. Oops. A lot of these aren't
triggered consistently on a lot of systems, so it's not terribly
surprising these got swept under the rug.

[PATCH] net_connect_*(): Wait for fd to complete connect(2) when fd is non-blocking
Hi,
Dovecot ignores EINPROGRESS on connect(2) for non-blocking fd.
This is wrong. After that, read(2) to fd (or write(2) to fd) fails
with ENOTCONN if the connection of fd is not completed.
The attached patch fixes this problem.

Designing Tinc with Threads and Groups
Hello All,
I have been trying to get a feel for the Tinc sources because I would like
to see about developing a version of Tinc that uses threads and also
incorporated the idea of groups so that when a user starts up their daemon
they can join one or more groups.
I know that you can establish multiple "networks" on a single daemon, but
from what I understand, you also have to have

3des cipher and DH group size
Hello everybody,
An issue was reported in RH bugzilla [1] about the size of the used DH
group when combined with the 3des-cbc cipher. OpenSSH uses the
actual key length for the size estimation. This is probably fine as far
as the cipher has the same number of bits of security as the key
length. But this is not true for 3TDEA where the key size is 168 resp
192 but it's security is only 112.

New UPS Support: Eaton 5S 1000
Hi,
Thank you for taking a look at this. This is 13.10. I realize Saucy is no
longer supported. This system is slated for replacement, but in the
meantime I'm responsible for it.
The repo version of nut was 2.6.4-2.3ubuntu2. Installing it was useful as
it gave me the nut user and group. The compiled version errors out whether
or not the repo version is installed.
I just did strace.

rsync 2.6.2 with Posix socket on HP-UX
Hi,
I tried to compile rsync 2.6.2 as a 64-bit application
on HP-UX 11.23.
$ CC=cc CFLAGS="-Ae +DD64" configure
$ make
$ make check
'make check' fails with daemon mode tests with the
following error message.
rsync: socketpair_tcp failed (Address family not supported by protocol family).
There seems to be a problem with the mixture of BSD
and Posix socket specification.

encrypted data yet my configuration is sending plaintext

New UPS Support: Eaton 5S 1000
I've used NUT successfully for monitoring many different brands of UPS, but
this one has me stumped. It has the same manufacturer ID and Product ID as
older supported MGE-type Eaton UPS's, but has trouble talking. I tried
Ubuntu's repo NUT, and it logs a Connecting to UPS message every few
seconds forever, but never really succeeds (or says it fails). Different
