Potentially serious (but rare) issue with buffer.c and cipher.c
While rototilling packet.c, I did some looking at cipher_encrypt in
cipher.c. It ends up that for SSH_CIPHER_NONE in cipher_encrypt, it
uses memcpy. However, it also appears that dest and src can be equal
in cipher_encrypt.
On most sane libc implementations, memcpy == memmove. However, ANSI C
makes no such guarantee, and some implementations out there are bound
to try to optimize memcpy

IRIX 6.5 + AFS/Kerberos Problems
I am having problems compiling ssh 3.1.p1 under IRIX 6.5.15. I can
get ssh to compile but it does not seem to be able to authenticate
using afs passwords.
Some details:
gcc 3.0.1
ssl-0.9.6c
zlib-1.1.4.
I am configuring with:
./configure --with-kerberos4=/usr/kerberos --with-afs=/usr/afsws \
--with-tcp-wrappers=/usr/local
Straight out of the box, this fails with:
gcc -g -O2 -Wall

optimization of R on SGI/IRIX
For R-1.4.0, I have been able to build R.bin with -O2 flag. This however
did not yield any significant speed-up for my code. I then tried building
the binary for 64 bit, but had not been able to configure the build; none of
the suggestions that I can find in the r-help search worked for me. I'm
looking for any other suggestions -- TIA

Installation problem on SGI IRIX6.5
Hi, all,
I'm a newbie to R. I came across a problem when I tried to install R on
an SGI machine which is running IRIX64 6.5.
I have successfully run configure, but when I tried to run "make"(or
"gmake"), errors came out. Following is the error message.
Does someone has experiences in the R's installation on IRIX ? Any hints
will be greatly appreciated !
Thanks in

GSoC, question on open projects
Hello,
My name is Janek van Oirschot, currently student premaster embedded
systems at the Technical University of Eindhoven and interested in
participating in GSoC and contributing to LLVM. I have some experience
with development for the GNU Assembler in which I looked into
assembly-time relaxation.
I have looked at the open projects page, found some interesting
projects but still have some

snk authentication
Here is a little patch against 2.9p1 that performs the SNK (also known
as TIS authserv) challenge-response automaticly instead of asking the
user. hope you find it useful.

Compile error 2.9p1 / Solaris 8 / Kerberos IV
Hello,
trying to compile 2.9p1 on my Solaris 8 box [1]. I can compile
without Kerberos but adding --with-kerberos4=/opt/KTHkrb4 it
fails [2].
The build dir can be seen on http://www.isk.kth.se/~janj/openssh/
Is there something I can do to fix this?

Information leakage in sshd
Hi guys,
and here's a security related bug report. I think it's has been fixed in
the 2.2.x-release of openssh, but I'm not sure. I tried to reproduce the
problem with my 2.2.0p1 and could find any difference in the behaviour
of ssh depending on wether PermitRootLogin was set to no. Could someone
please confirm that this problem is not existing anymore?

Cryptography patents (was: openssl lib question.)
Sunil--
Actually, you do not "see that openssl
has some patent issues." You do see that
OpenSSL implements many algorithms, some
of which have been (at various times)
been patented or encumbered in some
countries.
Without knowing what country you're in,
none of us here can really give useful advice
as to which software/algorithm patents
could potentially apply. To the best

openssh-3.7.1p1 -- openbsd-compat/inet_ntoa.h missing
Hello
I just installed openssh-3.7.1p1 on IRIX64 6.5 04100802 IP27.
The compilation failed since the header file
openbsd-compat/inet_ntoa.h
was missing. I downloaded the package from different sources including
ftp.openbsd.org, there was no difference.
Since inet_ntoa.c has not been changed, copying the inet_ntoa.h from
openssh-3.6p1 fixed the problem.
The package should be fixed anyway.

R-0.63.3 package on IRIX 6.5 machine (PR#145)
Hi,
I installed R-0.63.3 version on SGI machine running

Machine details:

I used gcc (egcs1.1.1) and g77 combination.
I use the GNU make rather than the sgi make.
I went through your help mailing list and found that
I have to edit the Mathlib.h file in src/include directory

Problem with latest OpenSSH - 2.5.2p2
We have been using OpenSSH version 2.3.0p1 for a couple of months now
with out problems. The same goes for several previous versions we have used
over the last year. However, I have just installed version 2.5.2p2 and it is
giving me some problems. If it were not for the latest security bulletins
strongly suggesting we upgrade, I would reinstall the 2.3.0p1 version.

More [A tangent on RC5] Cryptography patents (was: openssl lib question.)
I hate following up to myself, but
I thought a clarification of one
point (specifically WRT RC5 which
was mentioned in the original question)
might be worthwhile...because what
I should have said originally was
that "To the best of my non-legally-
admissible knowledge, however, none
of the algorithms in the current

Burning DVD with files>4GB from console
My backup script split filesystem dumps to files with size of 4,37 GB (4
588 544 kB). It's just an optimal size to fill out DVDs. At this moment
I have to burn them from windows via smb-link becuase I didn't manage to
do this task from FreeBSD console due to 2GB/4GB filesize restrictions
(growisofs). I'm using freeware CDBurnerXP to burn my backups
(ISO9660/UDF/Joliet), and they
