Slow directory listing in ERmapper and ArcView
Hello,
I'm running Samba 2.0.6 on a Sun Ultra1 as a file and print server for a
GIS teaching lab. Samba has solved a bunch of problems for us but one
serious one remains. Getting a large directory listing from within two
applications, ERMapper 5.5 and ArcView 3.1 running on win95, is a factor
of 10 slower than getting the same listing from a local drive or a win95
machine serving SMB.

Solaris 8 password inactivity with openssh
All,
We have recently updated our password aging to include setting inactivity days. We are running ossh 4.1p1 in a Solaris 8 environment. It appears that ossh isn't picking up on inactivity. Accounts that have been inactive still prompt to change passwords - if you telnet the same servers you get kicked out immediately. On the Solaris 9 servers running SUN's ssh the inactive accounts are

Extracting Sequence Data from a Vector
Thanks in advance.
I have a vector of numbers which contain sections that are sequences
which increase by a value of 1 followed by a gap in the data and then
another sequence occurs, etc:
x<-c(1:3, 6: 7, 10:13)
From the vector I need to extract 2 items of information A) the first
number in the sequence (e.g., 1, 6, 10) and B) how many observations
were in each sequence section (e.g., 3,

NIS - netgroup
Hello;
Sorry for the crosspost/repost, but I am getting desparate here.
I am having difficulties setting up ssh (ossh4.3p2 - NIS -Solaris8/Sparc) to
authenticate and allow ossh access based on NIS netgroup. So, users and/or
host should be from a valid netgroup triple, contained within the ossh
servers .rhosts, .shosts, hosts.equiv and/or shosts.equiv.
I am having alot of trouble getting NIS

scp with F-Secure SSH2
Hi!
I was browsing through archives and found out that somebody else was having
the same problem as I'm.
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=248
from the client, when I run scp to the server, I get:
scp: warning: Executing scp1 compatibility.
scp: FATAL: Executing ssh1 in compatibility mode failed (Check that scp1 is in
your PATH).
There are more details about this problem here:

Running stats on individual data.frames from the split() function list
Hello, and thanks in advance.
I have a data.frame from which I want to count observations that occur
on each day and determine the mean and std.error of said counts.
For instance:
x<-split(my.df, my.df$julian.days)
Although I'm still in my R learning infancy I am under the impression
that x is a list of data.frames subsetting my.df by group
(i.e.,julian.day) where day 1:366 are

speex affected by vulnerability described in [oCERT 2008-02]
Hi folks,
we've tried contacting Jean-Marc Valin but email address bounces. We
published yesterday an advisory about libfishsound, you can find it at the
following URL:
http://www.ocert.org/advisories/ocert-2008-2.html
The issues seems to affect Speex (since the code is the same) versions <=
1.1.12. While the 1.2beta branch is not vulnerable we advise that you fix

openssh 3.4 solaris pkg & privsep error
Hello,
this is MAx Gregis from Italy.
I send you this e.mail about privsep error with OSSH 3.4 on Solaris 2.6
an Solaris 7.
Usually i find the error of compression disabled if i use SSHD qith
inetd daemon.
But if i put this entry:
sshd:23:respawn:/usr/local/sbin/sshd -D > /dev/null 2>&1
in /etc/inittab ( and after a good "init q" for reading new inittab)
In this mode

ordering dataframe for strata() (PR#13830)
I've been using strata(sampling) and found that if the dataframe to be
sampled ("data") consists of repeated measures that are not sorted in
order the run will fail on a given stratum. Ordering the dataframe
prior to using strata() eliminates this problem.
Thanks,
Eric

I have a dataframe of 2000+ observations with repeated measures across

Anybody working on -R support for proto 2 ?
Hi !
Is anyone working on getting -R (remote port forwarding) working with
protocol 2 ?
I might be interested in helping but don't want to duplicate any
previous work.

[Bug 80] Host key conflict with two servers on one IP
http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80
------- Additional Comments From eric-ossh at brouhaha.com 2002-08-22 04:57 -------
This "HostKeyAlias" business seems like a flimsy excuse for not implmeenting a
feature that users want. In this age of ubiquitous firewalls and NAT, it is NOT
reasonable to assume that two ports on the same IP address refer to the same
host, or to the

RedHat sshd.init script typo ?
Hi,
I noticed one small possible error in the
openssh-2.3.0p1/contrib/redhat/sshd.init script.
In the stop option:

Information leakage in sshd
Hi guys,
and here's a security related bug report. I think it's has been fixed in
the 2.2.x-release of openssh, but I'm not sure. I tried to reproduce the
problem with my 2.2.0p1 and could find any difference in the behaviour
of ssh depending on wether PermitRootLogin was set to no. Could someone
please confirm that this problem is not existing anymore?

Usability issue when forced to change password when logging in to a system

I think there's a good case to be made for OpenSSH to not provide any
instructions at all unless it is in charge of the dialog itself.
Have you checked that the current instructions are actually output by
OpenSSH? The string seems to be in openbsd-compat/bsd-cray.c inside

OpenSSH Security bug: port forwarding
Hi. OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 exhibits the following behavior on Linux 2.2.5. I
believe this is a bug. Can anyone else replicate this?
On any given SSH machine (let's call it 'test'), start ssh like
this:
./ssh -L2526:mail.blah.com:25 -f mail.blah.com sleep 1000
(where mail.blah.com is some machine running sendmail, you have a login
account, etc.)

DSA Fingerprints...
Hello,
Questions, observations, and curiosities.
Maybe this is something stupid or maybe I'm doing something wrong...
But... In light of the Kurt Seifried paper on SSH and SSL, I was looking
for the finger prints on my various servers and known hosts files to have
a little crib sheet and maybe plug the list into a database on my palm pilot.
I found that ssh-keygen lists out the

I'm trying to write a class for Gaussian error propagation of measured

I've already successfully implemented basic arithmetics using mostly the
"Arith" group generics. But I'm running into trouble when trying to get
signif() to
