OpenSSH Security bug: port forwarding
Hi. OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 exhibits the following behavior on Linux 2.2.5. I believe this is a bug. Can anyone else replicate this? On any given SSH machine (let's call it 'test'), start ssh like this: ./ssh -L2526:mail.blah.com:25 -f mail.blah.com sleep 1000 (where mail.blah.com is some machine running sendmail, you have a login account, etc.) In a just world (and this works with

OpenSSH 2.5.1 compatibility problem
SSH server specs: ----------------------- Redhat Linux 6.2 Custom built 2.2.17 kernel OpenSSL 0.9.5a (update from RedHat). OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 I am using my Linux box as an Internet gateway. I wanted to keep the box as secure as possible while still having the functionality I needed. The only way to connect to my server is through SSH. A fair majority of the time I am attempting to

argv[0] => host feature considered harmful
OpenSSH still has this feature, SSH-1.2.27 no longer has it. Admittedly it can be useful sometimes, even though I'd prefer this to be done using a trivial shell wrapper, which would be the UNIX way of doing things. Not being able to call OpenSSH's ssh by another name (say ``ssh1'') can get in the way when having to maintain two versions of ssh in parallel because the ``ssh ->

SSH1 vs. SSH2 - compression level
Hello, I was searching for this information virtually everywhere, but as I couldn't find it - I'm asking here. I was wondering, why setting the Compression Level was removed in SSH2, and if on, is always set to 6. In SSH1 it was possible to set the Compression Level from 1 to 9. I have made some tests with Compression Levels using scp: SSH1, compression 9 (highest available for

Strange behavior with 2.5.1 installed over 2.3.0
Hello. I've recently installed OpenSSH 2.5.1p1 over a working installation of 2.3.0p1 (both SSH1 and SSH2) and oddly enough I lost SSH2 support. The banner string states SSH-1.5-OpenSSH_2.5.1p1, which needless to say limits me to SSH1... I haven't yet bothered to check any conf files, but since I haven't really made any changes this behavior seems strange to me... Anyway, hope I'm

openssh 2.3.0p1-5 loses stdout
Hello all In a recent spate of paranoia we set our server (SuSE Linux 7.0, kernel 2.2.16) to use SSH version 2 and not SSH1. With openssh 2.3.0p1-5 running as client and server, we find that stdout output is occasionally dropped: ssh server echo "JJJ" usually emits JJJ, but sometimes returns nothing -- although the command is apparently performed. In the happy case the server logs

scp with F-Secure SSH2
Hi! I was browsing through archives and found out that somebody else was having the same problem as I'm. http://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=248 from the client, when I run scp to the server, I get: scp: warning: Executing scp1 compatibility. scp: FATAL: Executing ssh1 in compatibility mode failed (Check that scp1 is in your PATH). There are more details about this problem here:

AIX <--> Solaris X11 Forwarding Problem
I have an X11 application installed on a Solaris 5.7 server. ?The server runs the OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 daemon. ?I then SSH to this server from OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 under AIX with X11 forwarding enabled. ?I can run X utilities, such as xclock and xterm, without any problems. ?However, the X11 application I require (a Privacy Manager GUI) creates an empty window frame. If I telnet from the AIX server to the

SSH2 GSSAPI/KerberosV.
Hi, I've just set up OpenSSH to authenticate through Kerberos tickets. I spent a whole while figuring out I couldn't use SSH2 before stumbling across the information somewhere. First of all: is it possible this could be made very noticable in the sshd_config file? Secondly, is there any chance that SSH2 /will/ become supported in the future? There are already patches at

ssh-agent, protocol 2, openssh-2.3.0p1
Hi -- I saw an email on December 26th in the openssh-unix-dev mailing list archived on MARC, indicating that agent forwarding is indeed not working for 2.2, but that it is working for 2.3. That email referred to a user with 2.3 clients and 2.2 server. I am running the 2.3 client AND server and am having a similar problem. The only unusual aspect of my installation is that I'm using port 24

OpenSSH 3.6.1p2 +UnixWare 7.1.1 +SSH2 + PasswordAuthentication no + PermitEmptyPasswords yes
Greetings, I recently discovered a problem with OpenSSH 3.6.1p2 and UnixWare 7.1.1 (as well as OpenServer 5.0.X and SCO 3.2v4.2) When I set up sshd_config as follows: PasswordAuthentication no PermitEmptyPasswords yes and try to connect to a password less account ( I know its a F*up, but that's the application ID10Ts .... ) I can get in using the SSH2 version without a valid key, the

sshd: DES in SSH1 ?
I see that commercial SSH version it is possible to run sshd in SSH1 using DES (i.e, accepting SSH-DES clients). I understand from Damien Miller that Cisco routers also run in only SSH1 DES mode. Is it possible in openSSH to configure sshd (compile-time/runtime) to run sshd in SSH1 or SSH2 mode and accept SSH1 or SSH2 DES clients ? [I would like to be able to run sshd in SSH1/DES mode ] Is

OpenSSH 2 - can't get pubkeys to authenticate
The System: RedHat 7.0 OpenSSH_2.9p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090581f Client: PuTTY The Problem: I've installed the newest version of OpenSSH on RedHat 7.0 and can get most things to work, except when I want to use Public Keys with version 2.0. If I use straight password authentication, I can get PuTTY to connect using either SSH 1 or SSH 2. If I RSA authentication for SSH1, it
