SX-6 port of openssh, configure problems
When we were porting OpenSSH on SX, we had similar problem. And when we did
#undef HAVE_B64_NTOP in config.h, we faced linking problem as b64_pton()
multiply defined, in base64.c and in libc.a. So we modified configure to
check both the functions b64_pton() and b64_ntop(). But we gave priority to
native function if available. Following are the diffs of three files we
changed

do_pre_login() in session.c is used (in do_exec_pty()) before

OpenSSH 3.4p1's top level .cvsignore file
anyone who can help me understand-
one of my developers reimported openssh snapshot from 0722
into cvs. he sent me the following email about an error he believes
is in the snapshot
i'm not a cvs-knowledgeable person, so i'm not all that
clear on this, but should *.in files be in .cvsignore?
i tried checking a later snapshot, but 0722 seems to be the latest one.
.cvsignore is dated jun

protocol default
we are encouraging the use of protocol 2 over protocol 1, correct?
but ssh's default is that protocol 1 is tried first, then protocol 2.
this can be overridden in the ssh_config file and by command line options,
of course, but shouldn't we set the default to be what we want users to use?
thanks,

default socket buffer length
i have a site that needs to increase the socket buffer size.
this is something i really don't know much about, myself.
they need to increase it to at least 300k to get decent performance
(specifically for scp).
what is the current default & are there any known ramifications
to increasing it?
thanks,

[Bug 367] patches for Cray port
memset has apparently been fixed in unicos afterall,
or else the current code straightened out whatever was going wrong.
i'm not sure what happened, but deattack.c changes are no longer
necessary. i'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth....
crays run great straight out of the box for 3.5p1 as released.
sorry for the long delay in replying. porting my product to our new

Cray patch against openssh-SNAP-20010802
Significant changes since last patch.
Deleted patches to packet.c and channel.c - not needed.
Add small patch to sshd.c and openbsd/ssh-cray.c
to disable cray process privileges. Depending
on how a cray unicos/unicosmk system is configured user
could su to root without a password with out this mod.
Add no_sco flag to noop check for -lrpc which assumes that
their was a -lyp library.

utmpx/wtmpx problems with 2.5.1p2 on irix...
I installed 2.5.1p2 on an irix system and noticed that if a user logged
in typed "logname" it was providing the wrong username. File creations
were correct, "w" produces the correct output....so something is funky
in p2 that wasn't there in p1.

Ported OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 to Dynix
Hello Porters,
I've finally (thanks to Wendy Palm of Cray) ported OpenSSH to
Dynix v4.4.4. I had to make sure that "UseLogin" was set to "no" in the
sshd_config file. Also, here are the old-style contextual diffs (obtained
with 'diff -c' on the Dynix box) of the two files I had to change:

Porting OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 to Dynix V4.4.4
Hello Porters,
I am attempting to compile OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 on a Dynix V4.4.4 host.
I have set USE_PIPES and BROKEN_SAVED_UIDS (the latter because there are
no functions for set{eu,eg}id() that I can find). I configured with
"./configure '--with-libs=-lnsl -lsec'".
Each time I attempt to login, I get this error:
No utmp entry. You must exec "login" from

Call for testing for 3.5 OpenSSH
OpenBSD tree is heading into a lock and this includes OpenSSH. So we are
winding up for a 3.5 release. If we can get people to test the current
snapshots and report any problems that would improve the odds that your
platform won't be broke for 3.5.
Issues I know off of right now.
1. I can't test NeXT. So I TRULY need someone in that community to test
for me. Last I heard there was

[PATCH] Clean up failed login logging.
Hi All.
As noted in a previous post, the logging of failed user logins is
somewhat spread out. This patch creates a record_failed_login()
function in sshlogin.c and moves the AIX and UNICOS code to it,
eliminating 3 #ifdefs from the main code. It also provides an obvious
place to add the code for any other platforms that support this.
I've tested this on AIX 4.3.3. Wendy Palm was kind

Release testing
Hi,
We are planning on releasing the next version of OpenSSH in a couple
of weeks. As always, we would like to see it tested as widely as
possible before this happens.
We would therefore like you to test the latest snapshots (20030122
and later) on as many machines that you have access to. Ideally
this testing should include running the regress tests and use of
the snapshots in a
