Oops in kjournald
I'm getting oops whenever I pull a big file off of an ext3 filesystem
on my large LV. The kernel this comes from happens to have lvm 1.0.2
and posix ACL for ext2/3 patched in, but I get the crash even on
vanilla 2.4.17.
kymoops 2.4.3 on i686 2.4.17-acl-lvm. Options used
-V (default)
-k /proc/ksyms (default)
-l /proc/modules (default)
-o /lib/modules/2.4.17-acl-lvm/

2gb file size limit
What possible factors can cause a 2 gig file size limit ? I've verified
that the underlying filesystem can handle much larger files. I'm using
the standard samba package from Debian testing, version is 2.2.3a-12.
Please cc me on responses. Thanks in advance !

Call not going through and failing because "never answered"
Hi,
I'm trying to use Asterisk to place Automated Voice Calls.
A verbose log from Asterisk CLI taken when I place a call in the spool
directory looks like this:
-- Attempting call on SIP/MTN-NEW/my-number for application
MP3Player(/myfile) (Retry 1)
== Using SIP RTP CoS mark 5
> Channel SIP/MTN-NEW-00000005 was never answered.

extend.series not zero padding
Dear List,
I was trying to verify that I could use extend.series in the wavelets

seeing where my syntax has gone awry.
According to the documentation, [see ?extend.series]

NSS module
Does the wins libnss module not "work" yet, or am I misconfiguring it ?
Everything else in the whole samba/winbind realm works, I can log
in as a domain user using pam_winbind, smbclient can resolve netbios
names from WINS, etc etc. but 'ping NETBIOS_NAME' doesn't resolve.
Here's some background data:
Samba 2.2.8-0.1 on debian from master.samba.org apt repos.

Winbind broken after 2.2.8 upgrade
I have just upgraded two of our samba boxes to 2.2.8 and ended up with
partially broken winbind after the upgrade. The machines are slightly
different, and so are the symptoms, so here goes:
System 1: Was at 2.2.3 compiled from source Feb4/02, using options:
"./configure --with-winbind --with-acl-support --with-quotas". Running on

Misalignment of secondary axis on boxplot
Dear R-help,
I am trying to overlay a secondary y-axis over a boxplot. The problem is that
the point of the line does not correspond to the centrepoint of the boxplot,
which makes presentation and interpretation sloppy. Could someone point out
where I am going wrong please?

January Ruby events in the SF Bay Area
Bosco So has located a promising new venue for the SF Ruby Meetup:
There is WiFi access to the Internet as well as a large plasma
TV/monitor for presentations. In addition to offering caffeine
in various forms, they have sandwiches and desserts. Lastly,
there are lots of dining opportunities nearby for apres-event
chowing.

Dumping 12,000+ records into seeds.rb?
I have a legacy e-commerce app that''s got about 12,000 inventory items
in it, including pairings between items in one model to items in
another. There''s no way we''ll have the manpower to manually add all
those items and their pairings again ("ah cannah dew ih, cap''n!"), so
I''m hoping to write a series of either Ruby or raw SQL scripts to move

Voice quality of Softphones vs. IP Phones an d Gateways.
In our experience, the total cost of softphones(money, reduced sound quality
and lower reliability) in a large call center environment is actually
greater over time than the cost of a channelbank and cheap analog
headphones. We've tried 2 softphones, 2 kinds of SIP VOIP hardphones, 2
kinds of SIP analog adapters and we've tried channelbanks over the last 3
years. Right now we are half done
