patch for openssh3.5p1 - adds logging option
this patch adds a LogFile option to sshd_config. it just logs messages directly to a file instead of stderr or syslog. the largest change is an additional argument to log_init() in log.c for the log file name (and then changes to the rest of the tools to add a NULL arg). galt -------------- next part -------------- diff -urN openssh-3.5p1-orig/log.c openssh-3.5p1/log.c ---

Two patches for OpenSSH 3.1p1
Please find enclosed two patches for OpenSSH 3.1p1. The first patch solves a problem where sessions will be left "hanging" when you normally exit from a ssh shell (for example by logging out from the remote host via "exit" or "logout"). The problem seems to be that sshd (and some other parts of OpenSSH) doesn't check the return code and errno from waitpid() for

openssh and DOS
It appears that openssh has inherited the dos attack that ssh is susceptible to. This has been discussed on Bugtraq (see http://securityportal.com/list-archive/bugtraq/1999/Sep/0124.html for the thread). There does not appear to be an official for ssh. Attached below is a simple, proof of concept, patch that adds a MaxConnections to sshd_config that sets the maximum number of simultaneous

[PATCH]: Drop Cygwin workaround
Hi, the Cygwin specific workaround to sleep a second in daemon() isn't needed anymore. We can eliminate it from the OpenSSH sources. [PATCH]: Allow SSHD to install as service under WIndows 9x/Me
Hi, the following patch is a (hopefully least intrusive) extension when sshd is started so that it daemonizes itself. In that case Windows 9x/Me has a slight problem with sshd as soon as the current user logs off. The sshd daemon will be killed as well. Since installing services is very different between NT and 9x, the way used for NT boxes isn't working well for 9x. For that reason

Minor fixes for openssh-SNAP-20001028
I've attached a patch for openssh-SNAP-20001028 which fixes the following two problems: 1) I fixed fixpaths to complain instead of failing silently if it can't write the output file. 2) I changed log-server.c to use av0 as the first argument to openlog(). I also made sure it called openlog() before the TCP wrapper stuff, because libwrap calls syslog() and winds up using the

OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 on Compaq Alpha
Hello, I have installed OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 on a DEC AlphaServer 4000 under Tru64 UNIX 4.0F and on a DEC AlphaStation 200 under Tru64 UNIX 5.1. I tested Protocol 2 and 1 with RAS authentication resp. DSA authentication an both work well. There is one bug: I cannot view the man pages for OpenSSH under Compaq Tru64 UNIX. Are they in a special format which is not understood by the Tru64 UNIX man

sshd's -e doesn't work as expected
Hello, I'm running a sshd server using the -e flag so that I can capture its whole output and later send it to the user. I'm also setting LogLevel to DEBUG1 in the configuration file and I don't want to disturb syslogd. But the problem is that it doesn't work as expected (or as I expect, which I think should be the correct behavior). The log file ends up being empty because the

ssh -f won't detach properly when run from cron.
Hi, In file ssh.c, in function "ssh_session2", this piece of code: /* If requested, let ssh continue in the background. */ if (fork_after_authentication_flag) if (daemon(1, 1) < 0) fatal("daemon() failed: %.200s", strerror(errno)); implements the "-f" option, but when run from cron, it does not detach properly because of the second parameter

rlogin/slogin handling [PATCH]
Hello. I noticed that OpenSSH 2.1.1p3 does not check whether it is being called as rlogin or slogin, like it's siblings do. This can get ugly if you have rlogin and rsh symlinked to ssh, and old r* commands are moved off in another place, as I do. Since Solaris rsh is hardcoded to call /usr/bin/rlogin, it will get stuck in an infinite loop. Below is a quick patch I hacked up, based on

[PATCH] sftp-server argument error handling
When you give sftp-server a bogus -l or -f parameter, it logs a useful error message then blunders on to call log_init() with the bogus value. log_init() then prints a less useful message to stderr and exits. The following patch tidies this up by only printing the more useful error to stderr and not blundering on afterwards. --- sftp-server.c.orig Mon Jun 18 16:37:46 2007 +++ sftp-server.c Mon

preauth privsep logging via monitor
Hi, This diff (for portable) makes the chrooted preauth privsep process log via the monitor using a shared socketpair. It removes the need for /dev/log inside /var/empty and makes mandatory sandboxing of the privsep child easier down the road (no more socket() syscall required). Please test. -d Index: log.c =================================================================== RCS file:

Restarting with kill -HUP
Hi, If sshd is started with 'sshd', restarting with kill -HUP will fail. I've included the most obvious patch, but making sure that the full pathname is in saved_argv[0] just might be more secure. Linux and Samba Code
Here is an executable that would allow a user to change the linux and SMB passwords simultaneously. The website indicated in the comments had some problems in the code, but they are fixed in the cpasswd.c file which is below and also attached. Hope that this helps others. The code is a fix, not a solution. it only works from the command prompt, but it helps with keeping linyx and Samba

[solaris 7 patch] resubmit and extended ...
Okay, everything as the first large one I sent today, with a few extra mods. _PATH_MAILDIR is only used in sshd.c, that I can see, so moved the #ifdef from config.h.in to there. several files had __progname defined in the middle of the code, as well as at the top of the code, so cleaned those out. all the fixes for u_int32_t -> uint32_t and u_int16_t -> uint16_t, plus added appropriate
