MAXHOSTNAMELEN and Solaris 2.5
Solaris 2.5 does not seem to define MAXHOSTNAMELEN, and a compilation of vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 fails: > gcc -g -O2 -Wall -Wpointer-arith -Wno-uninitialized -I. -I. > -I/usr/local/ssl/include -I/usr/local/include > -DETCDIR=\"/usr/local/etc\" -D_PATH_SSH_PROGRAM=\"/usr/local/bin/ssh\" > -D_PATH_SSH_ASKPASS_DEFAULT=\"/usr/local/libexec/ssh-askpass\" >

Patch to make sshd work on multihomed systems
As far as I know this patch has no security implications -- I don't believe that allowing sshd to use get_local_name() (in canohost.c) on a connected socket to determine it's own fqdn will allow a malicious client (or router or dns server) to make it come to the wrong conclusion. But please let me know if you think I'm wrong. Please also let me know if you're just not interested

openssh-3.1p1 on GNU/Hurd
Hi, I've gone and ported the latest version of openssh, 3.1p1, to GNU/Hurd. I've tried to learn from the other threads on this topic, but I still had to get rid of MAXHOSTNAMELEN where I could. Samba 3.2.0 doesn't compile under Solaris8

[PATCH] Separate CFLAGS and CPPFLAGS
If you want to override CFLAGS on the make line (eg. "make CFLAGS='-O3'"), you lose because you end up stomping preprocessor flags as well. Preprocessor should be in CPPFLAGS. The following patch takes care of this. -Fred Index: Makefile.in =================================================================== RCS file: /cvs/Darwin/Services/OpenSSH/openssh/Makefile.in,v

problem report about installation of OpenSSH
Hello I apologise for sending this in in no particular format, but I do not have "sendbug" on my machine. I have just downloaded openssh-2.3.0p1 for installation on my Slackware 3.4 Linux OS (running on a Compaq Armada 1540DM laptop with a 150 MHz Pentium). As instructed, I also obtained and installed zlib-1.1.3 and openssl-0.9.6. Both unpacked, compiled, and installed without apparent

patch to support hurd-i386
Hi, here's a patch so that ssh also supports hurd-i386. Thanks for incorporating. The patch comes from Robert Bihlmeyer <robbe at orcus.priv.at>. > openssh 2.2.0p1-1.1 does not build on the Hurd. further problems Re: scp not found with solaris 8/2.1.0p2
Thanks to Richard June, John Horne and Bosko Radivojevic, who pointed out that I probably need to set the configure-time option --with-default-path, so I did this (rather than make symlink messes, which I'd prefer to avoid) : 1489 ./configure --with-default-path=/bin:/usr/bin:/opt/local/bin --prefix=/opt/local --with-random=/dev/random 1490 make 1491 make install 1492 pkill -TERM

SSH Command Line Password Support
Hello, I am interested in an ssh that is not interactive in requesting the password, i.e, whereas I can specify the password in the command line when calling SSH. I have wondered how such a feature has not been included in such a good client, as it seems there are many (and I have searched for this) people require this capability for their scripts/automation. I understand the possibility of

patch for the HURD
This is a small/trivial patch to get HURD to _compile_ (I haven't gotten PRNG to work yet) openssh. All it does is define MAXHOSTNAMELEN in defines.h if it isn't already defined (there may need to be a library loaded first, or you may want to incorporate that patch into canohost.c instead of defines.h). Anyway, small patch for canohost.c and defines.h because HURD doesn't use

openssh-2.1.1p1 on Irix6.2 report
I've had fairly good sucecss with the portable OpenSSH 2.1.1p1 on Irix 6.2. There's one major nit, and a few things that configure got wrong. I'm kinda deep in real work at the moment, so I don't have time to delve heavily, but since configure specifically asked for feedback on this port, I'm obliging. The biggest problem I've run into so far is in the builtin PRNG
