Binding to specific IPs/ports
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I'm not a developer.
OpenSSH seems to be capable of binding to any given list of IP
addresses, on any given list of ports. What it can't seem to
do, however, is be given any combination of these.
Lets say I want to bind to 1.1.1.1:22 as well as 2.2.2.2:80.
(I choose 80 knowing it is the http port, just for that purpose,
because some people are

specifying ip when forwarding?
With openssh, i can use -L x:y:z to forward a local port x to the remote host
y's port z. If the sshd server has more than one IP, is there a way to specify
which it binds to when forwarding the connection?
If not, this may be a feature you should consider adding?

Identd in jail.
Hi
Few days ago I've problem with running identd in jail on 4.10-stable
I've found that getcred() sysctl isn't permitted from within jail on 4.x.
R.Watson suggest some "cheap hack" for this but I've solved this
without patching the kernel.
My patched ident gets result of getcred() sysctl from jauthd daemon via
unix socket. Jauthd is simply getcred proxy, it gets two

freenode #asterisk IRC channel identd problem
Sorry to ask this question here since it's related to IRC and not
Asterisk, but I am having trouble logging into the #asterisk IRC channel
on freenode and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and
solved it.
So here's the situation: Whenever I try to login to the #asterisk
channel I get a message like "you must be identified to login to this
channel." So after doing

identd removed in Centos4.3?
Hi all,
Has identd been removed from the upstream release? If so what replaces it?
I see an oidentd rpm on DAG, but I'm curious about what I should be using?
Many Thanks

identd on "clients"
Hi,
I use shorewall on my router (internal ip: 192.168.1.4). The router is used
as a gateway for my lan.
If I try to access an IRC server from any "client" (for exaples 192.168.1.1)
I get the message "no identd". I tried the following in my shorewall rules
config (etc/shorewall/rules), but i doesn''t work:
ACCEPT net loc tcp 113

tcp wrappers Question..
hey folks, I keep seeing this on the internet
"The user name lookup feature of TCP Wrappers uses identd to identify
the username of the remote host. By default, this feature is disabled,
as identd may appear hung when there are a large number of TCP connections."
but I cant seem to find out how/where to enable said feature.

quality settings
ARGH! I am at a complete loss as to which OGG quality settings to use: 8?
10? 3?
I'd like to be able to listen to my primarily Rock oriented music on a
high-end system (though I don't own one - yet) without any noticeable sound
degradation, but I don't want to go total overkill with -q 10. With LAME, I at
least used to know 192 kbps with -q0 was a perfect size/quality proportion. I

Faked samba packages / rootkit?
Does anybody know of these samba packages?
http://ftp.cvut.cz/samba/samba-latest.tar.gz
AFAICS they are faked and contain some kind of rootkit (you can see
this in the history below. the server this history is from is taken
offline for security reasons, and nobody is there till 7th Jan I
can't give you more details)

IRC channel #asterisk on irc.freenode.net
Hi all!
It's great to start with "for dummies" question, but hey, we all have
been human infants also =)
Problem is, that I can not log on to this channel and I haven't found
anything helpful during the past few days either.
1. The irc.freenode.net server gives me "Couldn't look up your hostname"
and "No identd (auth) response" followed with

Is the channel now purposefully invite-only? If so, how is one supposed to

smbd and login scripts
Hello
I've two strange problems:
- smbd
I've attached you my smb.conf, inetd.conf and my log file. Sometimes smbd and
nmbd run and somtimes only nmbd run (I check it with ps -ax). But I have
access over my shares (I test it with my Win95 machine). Also in my log
file there're some error messages (I don't now from where the came).
- login scripts
My scripts won't run but if

Services not required?
I''m in the process of locking down as much of my systems here
as possible as to available ports. I am down to only a handful
but am not sure how much of a security risk they pose and was
wondering if anyone here might be able to comment, or suggest
secure versions to run:
21/FTP (WU-ftpd v2.4.2 BETA 14)
22/SSH (1.22)
23/TELNET (Netkit 0.09)
