[PATCH] OpenSSL RNG initialization
Hi,
dovecot tries to use OpenSSL's PRNG to generate random numbers if
there is no /dev/urandom found. Unfortunately, it is flawed in its
present
form, since the PRNG is not seeded before RAND_bytes() is called in
src/lib/randgen.c (on systems which have /dev/urandom, OpenSSL
automatically seeds its PRNG from the urandom device).
Here's a patch to address this issue: it tries to seed

[PATCH 1/1] Add support for ZSTD compression
From: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <sebastian at breakpoint.cc>
The "zstd at breakpoint.cc" compression algorithm enables ZSTD based
compression as defined in RFC8478. The compression is delayed until the
server sends the SSH_MSG_USERAUTH_SUCCESS which is the same time as with
the "zlib at openssh.com" method.

Problem with Linux x86_64 RODBC and Netezza (PR#13889)
Full_Name: Kenneth Cater
Version: 2.9.1
OS: Linux x86_64
Submission from: (NULL) (171.159.192.10)
It appears that R closes my connection to the Netezza device before the Netezza
has completed its return of data, below are two files clean_test.log which
tracks the systems call made when running the test.r file, and clean_test.out
which is the output generated when test.r is executed. Notice how

getrusage() privileged on Solaris 2.5.1
The builtin entropy gathering code in OpenSSH 2.1.1p1 tries to use
getrusage() if it's available.
This function is available on Solaris 2.5.1, but you must have root
permissions to run it.
However, configure.in uses only AC_CHECK_FUNCS() to look for getrusage,
and this only tests for a successful link. For this function you need
to do a more thorough check and actually try to run a test

[PATCH 0/1] ZSTD compression support for OpenSSH
I added ZSTD support to OpenSSH roughly three years ago and I've been
playing with it ever since.
The nice part is that ZSTD achieves reasonable compression (like zlib)
but consumes little CPU so it is unlikely that compression becomes the
bottle neck of a transfer. The compression overhead (CPU) is negligible
even when uncompressed data is tunneled over the SSH connection (SOCKS
proxy, port

disable features
this (uncomplete) patch makes various features compile time
options and saves up to 24K in the resulting
ssh/sshd binaries. i don't know whether this
should be added to the CVS since it makes
the code less readable.
perhaps WITH_COMPRESSION should be added, since
it removes the dependency on libz

Failing to understand getrusage()
I'm failing to understand how getrusage() works, which is a bit perplexing,
because it doesn't seem like it would be terribly complicated.
I've attached the code. My aim is to verify that I can use getrusage() to
do (admittedly crude) instrumentation of which functions in my program are
allocating lots of memory[1]. So I figure I can call getrusage() at various
points and look at

ZSTD compression support for OpenSSH
I hacked zstd support into OpenSSH a while ago and just started to clean
it up in the recent days. The cleanup includes configuration support
among other things that I did not have.
During testing I noticed the following differences compared to zlib:
- highly interactive shell output (as in refreshed at a _very_ high
rate) may result in higher bandwidth compared to zlib. Since zstd is
quicker

TinycoreLinux Install
Trying to build xapian+omega on tinycorelinux.
I followed the install guide and get pass configure/make/make
install/omindex, but when I try to run omega "P=search term", I
received the following message:

Attached is the config.log .
Make check in omega-core/tests/ shows a lot of failed

Python resource module returns just zeros
I'm using a call to the resource module's getrusage method. On openSUSE
this works, on CentOS [python26-2.6.5-3.el5] it 'works' but just returns
zeros for the memory utilization values.
resource.getrusage(resource.RUSAGE_SELF).ru_maxrss
openSUSE: returns 5512
CentOS: returns 0
Anyone know what condition causes this? Or is there a better /
more-reliable way to check memory

2.1.1p1 Timestamp problem?
I've been running OpenSSH for quite some time now, and I have been
acting more as the point man in making the builds for LinuxPPC as well
as distributing it to the Linux for the PowerPC community.
Things have worked rather well, making it a straight rebuild of the
package. However, a new problem was introduced with 2.1.1p1. It's not
critical, but a little more than a simple annoyance.

Control-c not work under openssh?
Hello,
I'm using openSSH 2.1.1p2 from my Linux PC to Solaris 7 and 8 systems (using
2.1.1p1). No problem, except that if I run a program on the Sun, having used
slogin to connect to it, and then try and issue a control-c to break into
the program it seems to be ignored. I can control-z and then kill the
suspended job, but I'd prefer control-c. I tried setting '-e none' on the

ssh 2.1.1p1 can't connect; ssh 1.2.3 can
My ISP supports connections via ssh. I was using OpenSSH 1.2.3
(portable) on Solaris 2.5.1 (with EGD), and I could connect to my ISP
just fine. They're using the proprietary sshd version 1.2.26 as far as I
can tell. A connect session looks like:
$ ssh-1.2.3 -v -l foobar xx.xx.xx.xx
SSH Version OpenSSH-1.2.3, protocol version 1.5.
Compiled with SSL.

openssh-2.1.1p1 on Debian slink and potato
Just today I compilied openssh-2.1.1p1 on Debian Slink and Potato both to come out with the same problem.
I am compiling them with openssl-0.9.5a.. The configure line I use for openssh is below:
./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh --prefix=/usr --with-ssl-dir=../openssl-0.9.5a
So I compile, do a make install restart the sshd daemon and everything seems fine.
Then when I do a w at the prompt
