rsh issue/update (access denied)...
hi... i've got an "access denied" issue with rsh on one of my boxes (and before we start, no "use ssh" comments.. rsh is what i'm dealing with for now!!) i've got a few boxes in my network, and i can successfully rsh into them with no issue. however, on one box, i can't access it using rsh, and i'm running out of things to try... kind of curious. i can

error starting client-server protocol (code 5)
I'm running FreeBSD 4.6.2 on two different machines. Both machines have rync installed by way of the ports library, but one of them is running it as a server. I followed the directions in the man pages for running the server using inetd. Here is what happens: rsync rsync://myusername@10.0.0.8/ rsync: server sent "rysnc version 2.5.5 protocol version 26" rather than

AIX SSH 2.x ssh and /etc/ftpusers rcp rlogin WRONG !
IF ssh is a replacement for rlogin, rsh etc I can accept it respecting rlogin=false as rlogin does and rsh does not, however scp is a replacement for rcp, and rcp does NOT use rlogin attribute, so the implementation is NOT standard as scp fails if rlogin=false, but rcp succeeds, as documented. thanks mark

Problem with yppasswd ans openssh on Irix
Hi, I compiled openssh 2.1.1p1 on Irix 6.2 with MIPS 7.2.1.2m compiler. All works fine except the yppasswd command from Irix (it's no NIS-problem, same with rlogin works): Logged in with 'ssh machine -l user1' # who user1 ttyq0 Jun 19 15:17 (xxxxx.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de) # ypcat passwd |grep user1 user1:xxxxxxxxxxxxx:1535:1500:User1:/usr/people/user1:/bin/tcsh # ypcat passwd |grep

Irix: PRNG initialization failed
Hello all, I tried OpenSSH versions 2.1.1p4, 2.2.0p1 and the latest snapshot briefly on 64-bit Irix 6.5.7f an 6.5.9m. Both times, no matter what I do, I'll get 'PRNG initialization failed -- exiting'. This happens with ssh-keygen (the keys aren't even generated yet, ssh binary etc.) It's clear that Irix etc. don't have a proper entropy pool like *BSD and Linux do, but

Cisco 801 and rcapi
(This is an extension of an email I sent earlier, but I'm not sure if it made it to the list or not.... I never saw it!) We seem to be accumulating Cisco 8XX series ISDN routers as DSL becomes more and more available in Australia and our clients upgrade. Does anyone know if those routers can make the ISDN channels available in a way that can be used by Asterisk? Preferably in a fairly raw

Irix job limits patch
I've finished the 2.3 patch for Irix job limits. It's a bit longer than a couple of lines. The bulk of the patch changes the configuration files to enable the job limits support on Irix. The meat of the change is in session.c where the new job containter is created at the same point as the other Irix specific actions. - Dennis --- config.h.in Sun Nov 5 21:25:18 2000 +++ config.h.in

Getting "poll: protocol failure in circuit setup" from rsh
Hi all, I inherited a cpu-stats script from the previous *nixadmin at our department. This script relies on a rsh-command to get the vmstats from the remote machines and then using a perl script to push it to a web server. Now I''ve just added a new machine running CentOS 5.2 x64 to the script and I get the error message in the subject line; "poll: protocol failure in circuit

two irix patches
First, does anyone know why the following was added in the first place? It purposely strips the tty off of tty names (e.g., ttyq1 becomes q1) before sticking them in wtmp. IRIX then has no idea what terminal people are attached to, causing commands like wall to fail (as they try to open /dev/q1). Maybe this should be version specific? --- openssh-SNAP-20001129.orig/loginrec.c Thu Nov 9

Re: Security Concern..
[Mod: This message is a reason *why* linux-security is moderated list. This is also a reason why Rogier, myself, Alan Cox and others really do not want to have completely open lists that deal with security related aspects of running a system as way too many people just jump to conclusions and give suggestions without doing any reasearch on a subject. -- alex (co-moderator of

Irix UseLogin wtmp/utmp bug
I am using the "UseLogin yes" configuration parameter to call the /usr/bin/login program on SGI Irix, (we are using Irix version 6.5.13). I do this because the SGI login program is AFS awhere and checks out a token for you and I do not want to compile the Kerberos version of sshd, (it is to messy for me to support). Everything seems to work fine accept the wtmp(x) and utmp(x) files do

SAMBA IRIX Problem
Dear Experts, I have a problem with SAMBA version 2.0.3 and older. After a few hours of normal operation the workstation disappears from the browserlist but the printing function works normal an I can make a manual connection with the windows-explorer. After a reboot for one or two hours again I can see the workstation normal in the windows explorer. My workstation gives the errormessage:

IRIX cleanup.
Can I get someone from the IRIX group to apply this patch to the 3.0.2pX release and reconfigure/compile. I'm trying to clean out do_child() in perparation of a larger patch to that part of the code. Also if someone could give me the hint for the right compiler magic to wrap the code in instead of what I'm doing now. I'd be thankful. Thanks - Ben diff -urN

Trusted IRIX Support
I'm working on integrating OpenSSH into Trusted IRIX. SGI has performed some manner of change and created their own binary distributions. Unfortunately, we have to wait until their quarterly release to get updated versions. To that end, I'd like to make the appropriate changes and feed them back into the main OpenSSH tree. I've started work and created a very quick-n-dirty hack to

IRIX patch for vorbis *
Hi, after reading the IRIX Digital Media Audio library documentation and starting to code an IRIX output plugin for libao and afterwards realizing there was already one on the CVS tree (almost identical to what I had up to that point, no wonder) and getting the rest of the vorbis tarball to compile under IRIX with the MIPSpro compiler only to find out the plugin was wrong and after going

[PATCH] Trusted IRIX Support
I developed a better prototype quicker than I expected. Please provide feedback. It's been a few years since I've used autoconf, so I'm not certain the new defines were integrated correctly. IRIX patches
The attached patch adds support for array sessions, project id's, and system audit trail id. Arrays are available at least on UNICOS in addition to IRIX. The project id & audit stuff is IRIX specific. Otherwise, the IRIX support in the current OpenSSHp looks good. (There were some utmp/wtmp oddities, but I think they've gone away in the latest release.) -- Mike Stone --------------
