openssh 2.2.0p1 and F-secure SSH ftp
Howdy,
I'm sorry if this is a FAQ but I couldn't reach the openssh.com
website so I can't check.
Is it possible to use F-Secure SSH FTP 4.1 (client) with
the openssh2.2.0p1 server? In the documentation I read that
sftp is still on the todo list but "SecureFX (secure ftp)" is
supported. Apparently this means there are different ways to
do ftp with ssh? In that case which

Why does ssh try to run df, netstat, arp ...?
Howdy,
I recently had a problem with one of our servers (crashed due to power
failure :-). While this shouldn't have been a problem for most
of the workstations and servers on the network I noticed that I
wasn't able to use ssh anymore. Ssh would simply hang during the connection.
rsh and telnet however were able to connect without problem so there
was no problem with the destination or

Error Mapping Clearcase Views/Vobs using Samba
Hi All,
Users at our site are using SAMBA (Version 2.0.8 and 1.9.15p8) to map their Home
Directories and their Clearcase Vobs/Views on their Windows 2000 desktops. Home
directories are being mapped without any issues but while mapping their
views/vobs we are getting the error stated below:
Network path \\server name\share could not be found

OpenSSH entropy/PRNG (was: Why does ssh try to run df, netstat, arp ...?)
Nico--
SSH is trying to "get entropy" by taking the
(somewhat-deterministic) output of a bunch of
system commands, on those OSs that don't provide
a /dev/random or its equivalent.
The commands that it uses are in /etc/ssh_prng_cmds
or its equivalent on your system; just comment
out any of the lines (and stop/restart SSHd) in order
to change which system commands are used as inputs

how to make a package depend on 2 or more other packages
Hi,
when using puppet to install extra rpm packages on centos: how can I
make a package depend on 2 or more other packages.
e.g. this works:
class centos4_extra_packages {
package { "test1" :
ensure => installed,
require => package["prereq"]
}
}
but I can''t figure out how to make test1 require

openssh-2.9p2 not allowing root access?
Howdy,
I just installed openssh-2.9p2 on a Solaris 8 system.
I use the same configuration files as the previous installation
(which was 2.9p1) however I suddenly can't login as root anymore.
Loging in as a regular user + "su" still works so it's not a
password issue. I'm very sure the sshd_config has "PermitRootLogin yes".
Did any of the sshd_config change?

Urgent. upgraded domain to Win2k now samba can't join anymore
Hi,
we upgraded the NT domain to Win2k. However now samba suddenly can't
connect to the domain anymore. Any ideas what we can do? I tried upgrading
to Samba 2.2.1a (was 2.0.7) but that doesn't make any difference.
Tried removind MACHINE.SID from the private directory but that doesn't
help either. When I do smbpasswd -j EDEN -r bison I get the following
output:
corsendonk.[root]#

Does anybody use idmap_adex?
Hi,
Actually I am using the Backend Idmap_AD. I thought Idmap_adex is still under heavy development.

Anoying bug in scale when using custom shortcuts
I'm using gandalfn's ubuntu-dev-pakages. I had this bug on beryl before.
If I set a custom shortcut for scale (in my case I want to initiate all
viewports on the default shortcut <ctrl><alt>Up), initiate_edge is
automaticaly set to TopRight, too. The Problem is, I don't want to use
the active edges at all. So I go everytime into gconf-editor, remove

Automaticaly unlock files
Hi all,
I've been looking for an answer for this issue but Google didn't help. So I
resource to the next best thing: the Samba mailing list.
Question: Is there a way to automaticaly, after a certain amount of time,
unlock a file after, for example, a client crash or network problem?
I know how to do it manually of course, but that is, well, cumbersome.

Installing a file only if a package is available
Hi,
is there a way to make sure a file is installed only if a certain
package is installed on the client?
e.g. I want to distribute the client key for NX via puppet. However I
only want to install these files if package ''freenx'' is installed on the
client.
I tried adding ''require => package["freenx"]'' but then puppetd complains

Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible to configure Asterisk to automaticaly
close calls when the BYE request hasn't been sent by any clients and the
call still exists for Asterisk ?
Thanks,

Automaticaly unlock files
Ah, a workaround!
I'd seen something like this on an old thread but I've always tried to stay
away from socket options.
I'll give these a try.
Thanks for your help
P.S.: strange that I don't see more people "complaining" about this....
Best regards,
Carlos

Automaticaly create User-Home directories for NFS
Hello, I have a problem with my Samba4 AD-Controller and NFS. We want to
distribute a NFS-Share for our home directory. The problem is that the
client is trying to create it on the fly for the first user login but
you get 'Permission denied' because of the root_spuash option of the
NFS-Server. My question: Is there any posibillity that the normal home
directory is created after adding

Cannot write to home directory, but I can write to subfolder
Hi Louis,
I tried restarting samba on the server already. I also tried rebooting the
client pc a number of times. The folders are mounted via GPO's. I assume
rebooting the pc should have the same effect as remounting the shares?
I also had a look at the permissions from Windows. When I look at the
permissions of the new folder I managed to create I see there is a strange
user with only

Caching user accounts on a Linux portable
I'm setting up a new Samba-based AD domain. The domain will be used to
authenticate access to both Windows and Linux desktops and portables. When
a Windows portable is not able to access the AD servers (e.g. you are using
a portable outside of the office) you can still happily logon using cached
credentials (as long as the user logged on the pc at least once before).
Is there a way to get

I'm coming from a Debian system so my system accounts are below 1000,
regular accounts start at 1000. For some historical reason somebody gave
our main group id 500 so therefor I want my usable range to start at 500.
Do I need both idmap config *:range and idmap config SAMDOM:range? I also
tried with only 'idmap config *:range' but that didn't seem to help. I'll

Samba DC sync issues - help
Help, my Samba DC's refuse to sync :-(
I have 2 Samba 4.1.17 DC servers. I made some changes via Active Directory
USer and Computers on Windows. However even after a weekend the changes do
not appear on the second DC.
If I run
samba-tool ldapcmp ldap://dc1 ldap://dc2 -Uadministrator

I see:
