Critical EGD handling in 2.1.1p1
Hi,
when running OpenSSH with EGD as entropy source, the sshd server connects
to the EGD socket and leaves it open to re-seed on the fly.
Unfortunately the connection is not checked when re-seeding, so that
a failure or restart of EGD will lead to a "fatal()" abort of the sshd
server process.
Since a dying server process can not be accepted, I would recommend to
not have sshd call it

Hi,

openssh-2.1.1p1 on Irix6.2 report
I've had fairly good sucecss with the portable OpenSSH 2.1.1p1 on Irix
6.2. There's one major nit, and a few things that configure got
wrong. I'm kinda deep in real work at the moment, so I don't have
time to delve heavily, but since configure specifically asked for
feedback on this port, I'm obliging.
The biggest problem I've run into so far is in the builtin PRNG

Cannot run OpenSSH 3.1p1 on Solaris 8, Irix 6.5.14, Irix 6.5.4, SunOS 4.1.3_U1 - ssh-rand-helper child produced insufficient data
I have successfully compiled OpenSSH 3.1p1 for the following systems:
Solaris 8
Solaris 7
Irix 6.5.14
Irix 6.5.4
SunOS 4.1.3_U1
Unfortunately, the new sshd is not working on any of the above systems
with the exception of Solaris 7. (I then put the Solaris 7 executables
on Solaris 8, and they worked there too.)
This is the error I'm getting:
$ /usr/etc/sshd -D -d -d -d

Patch to enable multiple possible sources of entropy
I have a need to have the same OpenSSH binaries run on multiple machines
which are administered by different people. That means on Solaris, for
example, there will be some with /dev/random, some on which I can run prngd
because they'll be installing my binaries as root, and some which will have
neither because they will be only installed as non-root. Below is a patch
to enable choosing all 3

How to compile OpenSSH on HP-UX10
I did this as a project back in the early 2002, and I had a nice
little how-to to walk me through it. Many work places and moves, and
I've lost it. I have a friend who asked me about this recently, and I
can't seem to find anything on the web, or the how-to I used (not
surprised).
If I remember correctly, you needed an up-to-date zlib, egd (or prng),
OpenSSL, tcpwrappers, and OpenSSH.

Announcement: PRNGD 0.9.0 available
Hi!
I have just made the 0.9.0 release of PRNGD available.
PRNGD is the Pseudo Random Number Generator Daemon.
It has an EGD compatible interface and is designed to provide entropy
on systems not having /dev/*random devices.
Software supporting EGD style entropy requests are openssh, Apache/mod_ssl,
Postfix/TLS... Automatic querying of EGD sockets at fixed locations has
been introduced in the

New feature: remote entropy gatherer port
[NOTE: I'm new to this list and this is my first
approach to OpenSSH code.]
I've enhanced "--with-prngd-port=PORT" flag to accept an
optional hostname as in "myhost:myport", e.g.:
% ./configure --with-prngd-port=example.com:12345
Although I'm certain that this may cause big trouble if remote
gatherer isn't online (ssh will refuse to open any connection)

OpenSSL PRNG
Just for peace of mind, can someone who knows the openssh code better than
I do, confirm that openssh doesn't use (in any circumstances) the openssl
prng (since the code in versions prior to 0.9.6b is rather weak).
My understanding is that it doesn't (using either /dev/random, egd, prngd or
the builtin code), but I may have missed some other use of the openssl prng
elsewhere...

OpenSSH ssh-keygen on Solaris8 x86
I'm having a bit of trouble generating a host key on an x86 Solaris 8
system.
I've gotten the following built and installed:
egd-0.7
openssl-0.9.5a
openssh-1.2.3
My perl version is 5.005_03.
egd is running, and tests fine the egd "make test" and with:
#./egd.pl /etc/entropy get

HP-UX lastlog / contrib
Hi,
just built 2.3.0p1 on HP-UX 10.20 more or less smoothly
>From 1.2.3 I had documented --without-lastlog, can't
remember why, broke something.
So I tried my old configure settings for 2.3.0
which seams to break stuff:

some more dereferencing pointers and then Error 1 [of course]

egd.pl 0.7 stops working with Sol8/perl 5.6.0
The usual suspects:
Solaris 8
gcc 2.95.2
perl 5.60
egd 0.7
openssl 0.95.a
openssh 1.2.3
# egd.pl /etc/entropy
---
It works the first few minutes and then just stops working. OpenSSH
connections started still work, ssh just hangs with a new connection. I've
even tried --bottomless; no joy. 0.6 and Solaris 7 worked great. I'm going
to try the /dev/random that was mentioned before.

I'm trying to configure and build the current bits from the CVS tree,
I've used autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.52 to generated configure from

OpenSSH doesn't compile under Solaris 2.3 Sparc
Hi,
We are trying to get OpenSSH-1.2.2 stable release to compile under Solaris
2.3 Sparc. It worked perfect for Solaris 2.5, Solaris 2.5.1, Solaris 7 (All
on Sparc) and Linux 2.2.13 Intel x86
OpenSSL installs fine without problem, zlib is installed fine without
problems and egd.pl installs fine without problems. These are all the
current releases, I can get the version numbers if you need

Openssh-2.1.1p1 and solaris 7/8
Hello,
I just installed the above openssh onto a Sun Solaris 7 and Solaris 8 system.
No problem with that. However, I now seem to get some rubbish processed when
I login with slogin. An example:
Last login: Tue Jun 13 12:31:27 2000 from jhorne.csd.plymo:tJ`
^[[?1;2c
Telnet logs in okay, but just shows 'Last login...jhorne.csd.plymo'.
This seems to get passed to the shell, which it of

OpenSSH 1.2.3, HPUX 10.20 [TCB]
Hello,
already checked the Mailinglist archive for HPUX Problems, but
havent found exact this:
./configure --prefix=/opt --without-pam --with-ssl-dir=/opt/OpenSSL
--with-lastlog=/var/adm/wtmp --with-egd-pool=/dev/entropy
--with-tcp-wrappers --with-pid-dir=/var/run --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh
and get after a make:
gcc -O2 -Wall -D_HPUX_SOURCE -I/usr/local/include -I/opt/include
