Solaris utmp problems
Could all those who were having problems with utmp logging on Solaris
please try the test release at:
http://violet.ibs.com.au/openssh/files/test/openssh-TEST-2000053100.tar.gz
Users on other platforms, particularly HP/UX, AIX and SCO are invited
as well, to test compatibility.
The login code is heaps cleaner now.

Problems with utmp
Hi there,
I'm using samba-2.2.2 under Solaris 8 and I've got the following problem!
I have configured samba with "--with-utmp" and with "--with-quota" and
everything works fine. But when look for the last users logged in, in the
utmp-database there are only the first seven letters of the username, not
eight that we use for usernames.
Can you help me with this problem

Portability hacks + alpha HPUX1020 port
Hi,
Attached is a patch to 1.2.1pre18 that includes a number of portability
changes, and more a more complete HPUX10.20 implementation. Thanks to
Ben Taylor's utmpx patch, utmpx and wtmpx support are now in for HP,
with a few caveats. It compiles cleanly on HPUX10.20 with gcc, cleanly
on Linux, and with a few minor warnings on Solaris 2.6.
Most compat changes are made via autoconf which

Solaris wtmpx patch
Hi,
Solaris (tested with 2.6) needs a username in the logout record in the wtmpx
file. Currently openssh (version 2.3.0p1) leaves the username (utmpx.ut_user)
empty in logout records, which leads to conflicting results from the last
command. Example:
# last -5 siegert
siegert pts/186 stikine.ucs.sfu. Mon Jan 15 14:26 still logged in
siegert pts/105 stikine.ucs.sfu. Mon Jan 15

Suggestion: login.c->record_login()
Hi,
A lot of the problems with openssh portability so far appear to be with
the login record functionality, i.e. lastlog support, and variations on
handling utmp vs. utmpx etc. Looking at for-profit SSH 1.2.27, login.c
is rather embarassing spaghetti code, so laden with '#ifdef's it's
almost impossible to read.
OpenSSH's code isn't anything like that, but then it doesn't

Openssh-2.1.1p1 and solaris 7/8
Hello,
I just installed the above openssh onto a Sun Solaris 7 and Solaris 8 system.
No problem with that. However, I now seem to get some rubbish processed when
I login with slogin. An example:
Last login: Tue Jun 13 12:31:27 2000 from jhorne.csd.plymo:tJ`
^[[?1;2c
Telnet logs in okay, but just shows 'Last login...jhorne.csd.plymo'.
This seems to get passed to the shell, which it of

openssh-2.9.9p2 session.c fails on Solaris 7,8 w/ SunPro C
FYI--
session.c fails from openSSH 2.9.9p2 with SunPro C compiler on Solaris 7,
8. The function do_pre_login had to be moved to before its use in
do_exec_pty (a predeclaration would work).
It does appear to work correctly, given the above fix. Still having the
largefile problem (argh), so if anyone can help with /that/ ...

If you were to search for 'wtmp' in the 1997 archives
(via the Samba web pages), you would find one interesting

wtmpx problem on Solaris 8 sparcv9 (64bit) environment
Hello
When I was using OpenSSH-2.9p2 in Solaris 8 sparcv9 (64bit)
environment, I found some trouble that wtmpx has broken.
The size of utmpx structure object becomes larger than 32 bit environment
in sparcv9 environment. Therefore, instead of using utmpx structure object,
using futmpx structure object is better.
In sparcv9 environment, futmpx structure object is used instead of utmpx
structure

How to see loging of the user
Hi,
i just want to know if it's possible (i guess it is) to see in a log
file the logging (date and hour) of a user.
I looked in /var/log/smbd.log, nmbd.log, machine.log but there is no
record when the user pat (for example) loged in the network.
Does someone knows ?
Thanks.

[openssh-portable] utmpx and ut_name
Hello OpenSSH hackers,
The last couple of weeks I've been figuring out how hard it is to
replace FreeBSD's <utmp.h> with <utmpx.h>. I don't think utmpx is
perfect, but at least it's better than what we have now and at least it
has gone through some form of standardisation. I noticed POSIX says the
following [1]:
| The <utmpx.h> header shall define the utmpx

Compile bugs in openssh-1.2pre15 on Solaris (2.6)
Hi,
I didn't know if this was the correct spot to send openSSH bugs/problems
so I thought I'd try...
Anyway, I have encountered the following compile time problems for
openssh-1.2pre15 / Solaris 2.6 / gcc 2.8.1 -
* daemon code (bsd-daemon.[ch]) exists but is not linked in. Also,
header is not included. Same might apply to bsd-login.
* rsa.h needs __P() define to work

loginrec.c: bug in construct_utmpx() definition?
Hello,
I am trying to cross compile OpenSSH_5.8p2 on linux for a powerpc target with uClibc available. My problem is that I get a error when loginrec.c is compiled:
openssh/loginrec.c: In function 'construct_utmpx':
openssh/loginrec.c:790:10: error: 'ut' undeclared (first use in this function)

patch to add utmps support for HP-UX 11.23 and above
Starting with 11.23 HP is using utmps as if we didn't already have
enough (utmp, wtmp, utmpx, wtmpx,... did I miss any??) .
Anyway, I added support for it in (before this patch no logins from
ssh were showing up on my 11.23 and 11.31 systems).

To Do list...
This is just portable todo list. From the sounds of it Markus has his own
to do list. But can everyone review and let me know if there is anything
missing from this list. (Note.. I'm not looking for 'SSH should support
XYZ feature.' unless it's directly related to portability.) Or if there
is anything on this list that has been completed. (Namely Tru64 SIA
support?)
Thanks.
