ANNOUNCE: openssh-1.2.1pre18
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have just uploaded 1.2.1pre18.
This is mainly merges from the OpenBSD tree, bugfixes for Solaris
and libc5 Linux systems. It should fix all reported bugs except the
snprintf problems on some older Solaris versions.
Please test thoroughly, my hope is to have a stable version
released before Jan 1. At this point the main holdup is Solaris.

Ack...OpenSSH no longer compatible with SSH 1.2.26 clients?
I just tried, on a whim, to use an OpenSSH client vs SSH 1.2.26 client,
and I can connect with it...
Something drastic change between pre23 and pre24? Then again, I can't get
pre23 to work anymore either, after further investigation :( OpenSSH
clients connect no problem, just not the old SSH 1.2.26 clients ...

Fixes for Solaris
Attached is a small patch that should fix most of the problems
reported.
I am adding a recommendation to use GNU make to the INSTALL
document.

Damien

snprintf on solaris
Hello,
I've managed to get around the undefined paths in openssh-1.2pre14 on
solaris, but now I'm stuck without an implementation of snprintf and
vsnprintf. Is there a library I can download or a way to #define the
functions into compatibility?
Thanks,

What are the st* files, and why are they being created in the same
directory as sshd lives?

SSH problems ...
Okay, we think we've resolved them all now *wipe brow*
There were two outstanding problems...
Problem 1:
The config file has two directives in it:
IgnoreRhosts
RhostsAuthentication
Without realizing it, even though I had IgnoreRhosts set to 'no',
RhostsAuthentication was set to 'no' also, so it didn't matter ...
This appears to fix the authentication issue of last

[solaris 7 patch] resubmit and extended ...
Okay, everything as the first large one I sent today, with a few extra
mods. _PATH_MAILDIR is only used in sshd.c, that I can see, so moved the
#ifdef from config.h.in to there.
several files had __progname defined in the middle of the code, as well as
at the top of the code, so cleaned those out.

Announce: Test release with random collection support
I have just uploaded a test release of portable openssh to
http://violet.ibs.com.au/openssh/files/test
This release includes some major changes picked up from OpenBSD CVS.
It also includes inbuilt random number gathering support which should
remove the need for EGD on systems that lack /dev/random.
This support is very preliminary. Please treat it as alpha and don't
use it on production

1.2.3pre2 works great on Solaris 2.7 except man
Right out of the box (after I made Damien's LDFLAGS fix in configure) using
gcc-2.95.2. The only problem I have now is the man pages. I still can't
read them using Solaris nroff, and when I tried to build with
--with-catman=cat, I got the following during a make install:
/rtr/bin/install -c -m 644 ssh.[01].out /usr/local/man/cat1/ssh.1
Try `/rtr/bin/install --help' for more

anomalous wtmp logging bug
I've noticed rather strange wtmp logging behavior in sshd. Can anyone
confirm or solve the following:
Once a user authenticates themself to sshd, sshd among other things
records the login in the wtmp, which `last` reads. However, sshd logs
hostnames which are longer than 16 characters instead of IPs like normal
programs would. As a result, I have useless entries such as:

openssh-1.2pre15 on AIX
Hi.
Pre15 compiles out-of-the-box on AIX 4.3.2 ...almost.
No patch included this time, but the following were the gotchas:
- The __P() prototyping doesn't work (as discussed earlier)
- bsd-daemon.o wasn't linked into libssh.a (though configure seemed to
detect the need for it)
DCE patch will follow shortly.

Tor-?ke

DG/UX R4.20MU03
Has anyone had any experience with ssh and DG/UX? I tried the ./configure and
it could not determine the hosttype. After that problem was worked-arounded I
get a LOT of warnings about declaring functions multiple times and then the
compile fails with:

packet.c:803: `IPTOS_LOWDELAY' undeclared (first use this function)
