Problems with form_for and partials
i''m having problem with a form_for situation where i''m trying to DRY out the repeated parts of my forms and put them in common/form and render the form elements via another partial in controller_name/_form. Here''s the first form # app/views/common/form <% form_for ... do |f| -%> <%= render :partial => "params[:controller]/form", :object => f

stub with assigns?
is there a way to stub a method that sets an instance variable, so the stub sets it too? def find_foo @foo = Foo.find(params[:id] end ... controller.stub!(:find_foo).and_assigns(:foo, "123") -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Components going out of style?
I see in the new Agile Rails 2nd edition that components are going out of style? Is this so? has anybody abandoned the idea of components for helpers? Specifically I''m considering a menu sytem for a website that depends heavily on the users permissions to decide which menu options a user would need to see. I thought that components, since they have the logic in the controller and

questions rspec on rails
Hi, rather than flooding this list with separate emails, I''ve been queueing up questions using rspec with rails. (an irc channel would be nice too :) Here ya go... - Is there a way to test named routes? - Could I get an example how to test an ajax request (link_to_remote)? would that go in view? and/or in controller spec? - Can you assert which layout template is rendered in a

StepGroup ?
Hi, I have a need for the StepGroup feature in stories but not clear what''s the current api. Could you provide an example? In my case I have several scenarios which vary in the Givens, but not the results. Ideally I''m hoping to achieve something like: (but anything will do for now :) Scenario: one Given something When he does foo Then good things should happen

how to spec views
I''m trying to spec a view but haven''t done much view specing. This view render different partials depending on authentication of the user: annon, admin, player So I I''ll write if conditionals in the view with the partials it "should render signup propaganda for annon users trying to view games" do render "/games/index.rhtml"

(no subject)
Hi, Not sure if this is the right place for general questions on BDD style, but here goes... I have a class which behaves almost like a big function - you always instantiate it with a bunch of args, and call one of a couple of methods to get the results back. BDD style seems to like a separate describe block for each instantiation of the class under test. In this case that would mean a

specing class methods
Here is an example from autotest: class Autotest def self.run new.run end def new ... end def run ... end ... end How would I spec out Autotest.run? Two complications come to my mind: 1. How do I spec out class methods? (please point me to docs, if any. I can only find class level specing on "partial mocks" (of rails class objects) 2. How can I tell

rake spec default environment
hi, When I run rake spec , it seems to be starting with my default environment (development or production) and connects to that database, before actually connecting to the test one and proceeding with the tests. When I remove the development database, the specs wont run. How do i initiate rspec to be test environment from the start? I dont see this when i run using script/spec linoj

sharing specs in a subclass
Hi I''ve spec''d a class and they pass. Now I''d like to assure that any subclass of this class also passes the same specs. Any suggestions for a clever way to handle this? I''d prefer to keep the existing specs as is (eg instead of moving everything into shared behaviors, or doing something to all the ''describe'' lines) thanks linoj

Can''t delete app/helpers
I would like to remove some unused helpers from the app/helpers dir, but when I do so my specs fail. Why is this? I don''t see where those helpers are referenced within the tests. Is there a way to delete these unused files? Thanks -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

ActsAsList specs
Hi, How are people specifying models which act_as_list? I''m thinking that it would be possible to check that acts_as_list instance methods have been added to a class using something like this: describe Page, "acts_as_list" do it "should act as a list" do Page.ancestors.should be_include(ActiveRecord::Acts::List::InstanceMethods) end it "should use
