openssh X11Forwarding problem solution
Hi!
Several people noticed problems with openssh Version 1.2.2 through 1.2.3
related to X11 forwarding under Linux. For example:

ssh and X11Forwarding
What has to be installed on a host for it to do X11Forwarding in SSH?
My (FreeBSD) workstation at home is behind NAT. From home, I can SSH to
a FreeBSD firewall at work, and from there I can get to other hosts
around the internal network there, some of which run X clients.
Does X have to be installed *on the firewall* for me to forward X11
connections from the X clients back to my workstation

X11Forwarding through a firewall
I am running 2.1.1p4 on RedHat Linux and several Solaris boxes. I have
X11Forwarding set to yes in .ssh/ssh_config, as well as all of the
sshd_config files. Works just fine between machines inside my firewall,
but I can't forward X11 clients from outside the firewall. We have a PIX
doing NAT. Any idea what I'm missing?

"X11Forwarding yes" causes "error: socket: Protocol not supported"
Greetings,
I'm running OpenSSH_2.5.2p2, and OpenSSL-0.9.6a, on BSD/OS 4.0.
Following the FAQ, I added the following line to my sshd_config
in order to enable X11 forwarding:
X11Forwarding yes
Now openssh is disconnecting my sessions immediately after
authentication and login with the following error messages:
"error: socket: Protocol not supported"
"Disconnecting: Command

X11forwarding yes: how to debug/setup after xauth fix
I do not often use X11 - but when I do I prefer to enable X11forwarding,
and when finished - turn it off. This is preferable, imho, to having
"clear" X11 processing when local - and otherwise impossible when
working remote.
Working with openssh-7.5p2 I cannot figure out what (extra) I need to do
with sshd_config to get it working.
I know that there is a security-fix starting with

Use Rterm in rxvt for Cygwin?
Dear R users,
Does anyone notice that Rterm.exe does not work well with rxvt.exe,
an xterm emulator for Cygwin? It produces an error message window
with the following message:
This program has performed an illegal operation
and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor
It also prints "Signal 127" in rxvt window.
Rterm --ess, however, works.

Status of SSH 2.0 protocol support?
Just to bring everyone up to date, could we get a report on the status
of support for the 2.x protocol? The home page says "next major release"
- is that 1.3 or 2.0? And is there any feel for when it'll be generally
available?

isoMDS and dist
I am starting with a matrix in which rows are vegetation plots and
columns are various characteristics including ID# and elevation. I
removed elevation and ID columns to avoid having those characteristics
influence the distances between points which I calculated using the
"dist" command. The resulting distance file was then used in isoMDS.
What I want to know is whether I can

Brian's fix works for me. I did up an SRPM (unsigned) with it in:

rxvt-unicode windows
With latest compiz from git and latest stable version I have an issue
with rxvt-unicode (urxvt). Every window seems to get screwed up, I can't
touch the window title at all, I have to use the move key-bind to move
the window around.
The title bar also is half white half blue, Has anyone else encountered
this issue. It is not present in Metacity or Openbox. But it is in
beryl.

amanda backup ssh key
hello list,
I am attempting to ssh via a user account setup for amanda backups
from the backup server to the test backup client. AFAIK everything is
setup correctly yet when I ssh as the user to the client I have to
type the password. the public key is in the authorized_keys file of
the client and permissions all seem correct.
Here is a verbose output of the ssh session

OpenSSH NoPty patch
Hey everyone,
I wanted to add support for denying PTY allocation through OpenSSH. I'm
not certain if this is quite thorough enough for all cases, but for me
it might work for the moment.
I know that you can currently do this through authorized_keys, but as
far as I know that only works for an actual key. In my use case, I
wanted a user with no password which is forced to run a specific

openssh sftp fails to start a session
Hi,
I am having trouble running sftp from the openssh package openssh-5.5p1. There seems to
be an authentication problem.
This is what happens:
$ sftp -o "Port 2022" testu at localhost
testu at localhost's password:
Connection closed
QUESTION:
Can someone spot the problem please? How do I fix this?
FURTHER INFORMATION
I can run openssh's ssh:
$ ./ssh -p 2022 testu at
