Ugly patch to openssh-1.2pre15
Hi,
I am behind a firewall which does not permit connections to port 22, so I
run my ssh server on port 23. :-) Unfortunately, the stupid firewall
prints a few lines of junk when you make a connection to port 23 before
actually starting the connection. This confuses ssh.
Attached is an (ugly) patch against openssh-1.2pre15 which makes it ignore
a configurable number of lines while looking for

[PATCH] cleanup of global variables server/client_version_string in sshconnect.c
In sshconnect.c there are two global variables for server_version_string
client_version_string.
These are used just in a few functions and can easily be passed as
parameters.
Also, there is a strange construct, where their memory is allocated to
the global pointers, then copies of these pointers are assigned to the
kex structure. The kex_free finally frees them via cleanup of the kex

Name based SSH proxy
I am working on a proxy which can be hosted on a single
IP address and dispatch requests to different backends
depending on which hostname the client used to connect to
this IP address.
Currently such a proxy can be build to support HTTP, HTTPS,
SMTP, and DNS. However SSH support is impossible due to
the ssh client not sending the information such a proxy
would need.
I am not the first to want

Updated ssh-keyscan patch for ssh2 support
In the past 2 months another change occurred in the CVS code that
broke my ssh-keyscan patch. Here's an updated version that tweaks the
changed name (in the Kex struct) and also causes an attempt to grab an
ssh2 key from an older server (without ssh2 support) to fail earlier
and without an error message (Stuart Pearlman emailed me some code for
this).
This patch is based on the BSD CVS

ssh-keyscan continuity patch --
I apologize, this patch should have been sent awhile ago. Between a lot
of things that needed to be completed at work as a sysadmin for the
Research Computing group at Purdue University and retiring from work
after 38 years at the end of May (2012), I basically ignored it. This
patch is from a clone of my workstation that I just activated at home.
The patch was primarily written to fix the

ssh client does not timeout if the network fails after ssh_connect but before ssh_exchange_identification, even with Alive options set
Hello,
I am testing ssh with occasional network disconnection between server and
client during these days. I found ssh sometimes hangs if the disconnection
happens after the connection is established but before
ssh_exchange_identification completes. The ssh configuration files show that
both client and server alive options are set.
In /etc/ssh/ssh_config:
# Send keepalive messages to the server.

Compatibility with 1.2.16 (commercial)?
Hi folks,
I'm currently trying to connect to version 1.2.16 of the commercial
server. The server says it supports protocol version 1.4 and that that
is incompatible with protocol version 1.5. Is that actually true? The
complete output from "ssh -v xxxxxxx" is:
$ ./ssh -v xxxxxxx
SSH Version OpenSSH_2.3.0p1, protocol versions 1.5/2.0.
Compiled with SSL (0x0090581f).

[PATCH] fix for Linux hang on exit bug in 2.9.9p2
As you are now probably aware, the portability team for openssh still
has not fixed the hang-on-exit bug in the 2.9.9p2 release.
Attached is a patch for 2.9.9p2 that fixes the hang-on-exit bug for Linux
systems. It also adds a useful exit delay feature that has also not yet been
incorporated into the main sources.

SORRY!
I am very very sorry for not having found this problem before. I just
reported a problem I was having in
ssh_exchange_identification()
function... My fault: I didn't look hard enough in the archives.
Turns out that my problem was fixed by adding a line to my hosts.allow
file.
Again, I'm sorry I didn't research the archives long enough to find the
fix myself.

ssh-keyscan: xmalloc out of memory error
hi all,
I got "xmalloc: out of memory" when i used
ssh-keyscan to a remote host that is using
SSH protocol 2 and only protocol 2 (no fallback
to SSH protocol 1).
Looks to me more like ssh-keyscan doesn't talk
SSH protocol 2 to the server.
Please help.
Here is the exact error:
# /usr/local/bin/ssh-keyscan -v miad_1
# miad_1 SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.0.2p1
xmalloc: out of memory

AIX openssh patches
I have a few patches for AIX. The patchfile is attached below. The patch
has been tested on AIX4.2 and AIX4.3. The patch is on openssh-1.2.1pre25,
with openssl-0.94, using RSAref.
1) authenticate support - this function allows the system to determine
authentification. Whatever the system allows for login, authenticate
will too. It doesn't matter whether it is AFS, DFS, SecureID, local.

OS/390 openssh
Hello Steve, Hello OpenSSH-portable developers,
I am building OpenSSH for our (EBCDIC-based) BS2000 mainframe
operating system, and I noticed you do the same for OS/390.
Because my initial ssh port was based on IBM's OSS port (ssh-1.2.2
or some such), I thought it was fair enough to help with a little
co-operation; we might come up with a unified EBCDIC patch which could
be contributed to

connection_in and connection_out
Hi,
I'm a newbie to openssh and was trying to read the source code recently.
Could anyone tell me why in sshd the connection_in and connection_out are the same(seems to be integer 3 in my machine).
connection_in is used in process_input(readset), and connection_out is used in process_output(writeset);
But how does it work if it tries to read and write from the same file descriptor?

Idletimeout patch, third attempt
Here is my third attempt at the idletimeout patch. I tried to address
the points which Marcus Friedl brought up.
It is actually bigger than the previous patches, but not as intrusive.
It is big because it moves some stuff from serverloop.c to packet.c.
- I moved all the logic to packet.c. This means that I also had to move
the actual select() call, which used to be in serverloop.c to packet.c.

intermittent ssh connect error
We've got set of servers that use AFD (http://www.dwd.de/AFD) to scp files
to a set of receiving servers. There are about 25 sending machines, and 12
receiving machines. All the servers are RHEL 4 and 5, with the senders
running openssh 4.3p2, and the receivers running 3.9p1.
Most files are sent without a problem, but on a pretty regular basis, we
get "ssh_exchange_identification:

[PATCH]: Patch to fix hang on exit bug under Linux and add optional exit delay
The hang-on-exit bug still hasn't been fixed in OpenSSH-3.0p1... :-(
Here again is the patch to fix this bug under Linux, updated for OpenSSH-3.0p1.
This has been exhaustively tested for six months now. It also add an exit
delay option that can be useful.
The patch does not lead to data loss under Linux.
Please see the Secure NFS page (SNFS) for further details:
