Changing unix group ownership through Samba
Hi everyone,
First of all, sorry if this is something which the man pages or other
documentation answer. I could not find a simple solution.
I am running 3.0alpha22 on Linux joined to a W2k domain with a Windows
2000 Server domain controller. Authentication is done with Kerberos,
clients are 2000/XP.
I want to be able to change the unix group ownership on directories and
files from the Windows

UNIX -> WinNT Username/Password Synchronization Revisited!
Hello all!
Brief Scenario:
We use a home grown "Accounts Registration Server" (ARS) to create, track,
modify and delete required accounts (via a secure TCP connection) on
various host computers (currently only OpenVMS and Digital UNIX servers).
We currently use a DUNIX box as the primary student POP3 mailserver (which
also runs SAMBA). Account registrations (approx 30,000) are

SMB/Cups Printcap problem.
Hello all.
I'm currently setting up a RedHat box with 4 nics to handle SMB
printing for 4 separate subnets.
I have CUPS printing set up and functioning. I have a separate
smb.conf file configured to bind to one interface each, and everything
is dandy.
Here is where I hit my problem. When I have the following line from
the conf file set as you see it, I see all the print queues without

Samba 2.0 and passwords
Hello all,
I have asked this before but I have not found a solution. I have one Dec
Alpha running Tru-64-UNIX, formerly DecUNIX, v4.0d. I am running 2.0.2 and
have run 2.0.0 with no problems. SWAT works fine on it also. I have 2
other systems, one running v4.0d and the other running v4.0b. On those
systems I can connect to guest volumes just fine but anything that requires
a password fails

lambda, uncertainty coefficient (& Somers D)
Dear colleagues in R,
Has anybody implemented the
1) (Goodman & Kruskal) lambda
or the
2) (Thiel's) uncertainty coefficient
statistics (in the asymmetric and symmetric forms), or is anyone aware
that they might reside in some package? A search in the R archives
does indicate that they are (somehow) part of the CoCo package, but I
would rather not start learning how to transform my

IRC channel #asterisk on irc.freenode.net
Hi all!
It's great to start with "for dummies" question, but hey, we all have
been human infants also =)
Problem is, that I can not log on to this channel and I haven't found
anything helpful during the past few days either.
1. The irc.freenode.net server gives me "Couldn't look up your hostname"
and "No identd (auth) response" followed with

H0 and H1 probabilities in Cohen's Effect Size w for X2 test
Dear all,
I've been delighted to just notice that Cohen's formulas for
Effect Size 'w' and the associated power have been implemented in
the 'pwr' package (thanks to St?phane Champely and others)..
There is one aspect, though, that perplexes me. I'm doing some last
minute post hoc analyses, meaning that my sample size (N=3404) has
been long fixed, and I'm

Index update - problems
Hi,
Rails 1.2.2
Ruby 1.8.5
Ferret 0.11.4
I have pretty big forum that has 2 columns that are indexed, in addition
to this couple more tables with far less data are indexed.
It seems that first index update works. Mysqld process takes the idle
CPU time, but behaves nicely.. until at some point it takes 99% and
doesn''t let other processes use it :) I''m forced to restart mysqld.

Fwd: Bad \usage lines question
Dear colleagues,
In checking a function I am adding to an R package, I get the following

R 68.3 on OSF V4.0 problems SOLVED
I wrote about my problems building R-0.63.3 on a Digital Alpha running OSF
V4.0D. Thanks to the suggestion Jonathan.Yuen at tvs.slu.se, I tried using the
DEC CC compiler instead of gcc, and it worked just fine. (Seeing that I
needed gmake to build, it never occured to me to try DEC CC. It seems that
you cannot combine DEC F77 with gcc; I do not have g77 to try.)
Below is a set of instructions

Kerberos and smbmount
Hi,
I have been playing with the latest alpha (samba-3.0alpha20) for a while
now trying to get Kerberos and smbmount working together to access shares
on a Windows 2000 Server SP3.
As I understand it, without modifications to the code this should not work
at all. I tried to make a few changes, namely setting c->use_kerberos=True
and commenting out c->use_spnego=False. I also had to comment

Reading in a table with ISO-latin1 encoding in MacOS-X (Intel)
Dear colleages in R,
I have earlier been working with R in Linux, where reading in a table
containing Scandinavian letters ("?", "?", and "?") in the header as
part of variable names has not caused any problem whatsoever.
However, when trying to do the same in R running on new MacOS-X (with
an Intel processor) with the same original text table does not seem to

Rsync 2.5.5 (Digital Unix 4.0f) Large Filesets...
Hi,
I've been trying to use rsync to backup the content of a large web
application on our Digital unix servers. I'm having some success but the
main problem is the sheer number of files and subdirectories which must be
copied/maintained between the two servers (one is our standby system).
Believe it or not there are in excess of 7.5 million files/directories
which must be synced between

Samba4 and NVSv4
Short story: cannot get Kerberized NFSv4 to work. I've googled a great
deal and cannot find where I have goofed (and there sure is a lot of
misleading and just plain incorrect information out there), so would
appreciate another pair of eyes. NFSv4 without Kerberos does work fine, as
does ID mapping. We're using NFSv4 in production with sec=sys, but I'm not
happy with that. My
