problems compiling sshd on slackware 7.x
Hi, I tried to compile openssh-2.1.1p4 on a slackware 7.1 (and then on a slackware 7.0). you need to supply -lcrypt because otherwise auth-passwd.c line 135 calls the wrong crypt and sshd will never let you log in. (took a while to figure that out.) I tried './configure --with-libs crypt' but configure doesn't seem to understand me ;) checking host system type... Invalid

Password authentication problems
I'm having a problem getting OpenSSH to correctly authenticate passwords. I'm doing authentication against a shadow file (/etc/shadow) because I don't have PAM installed. I'm using Slackware 7.0, OpenSSH 1.2.3, OpenSSL 0.95a, and glibc with the crypt addon. Here is the funny thing about it though. I edited the file that has the code for authenication (auth-password.c I think,

problem with password authentication
Hello, First of all, I have already read the archives ;) I have installed openssh 1.2.3 on a linux machine (slackware 7.0) and have that authentication failure problem. Slackware originally doesnt implement PAM, and with these problems with ssh I tried to install it, and it works fine, but ssh keeps complaining about passwords... this is a paste of a debug run of ssh: debug: sshd version

Linux sshd dumps core unless client is insecure.
pausmith at nortelnetworks.com (Paul D. Smith) had a problem where his 2.1.1p1 wouldn't connect if it was running set-UID root, unless "-P" was given. Gert Doering <gert at greenie.muc.de> suggested a firewall problem. Damien Miller <djm at mindrot.org> tried to help too. Now I've got the same problem: my 2.1.1p1, 1.2.2, and 1.2.3 clients won't connect to

PAM authentication
Hey all, I'm having some trouble it seems with PAM. I'm running Redhat 6.0 with a 2.2.13 kernel. I installed OpenSSL 0.9.4 and OpenSSH 1.2pre15. It compiled and (Open)ssh seems to work just fine when I connect to other computers running sshd. Yet when I start (Open)sshd on my local computer and try and connect, it won't let me login. When I run sshd -d it says that PAM rejected my

OpenSSH 2.1.0+OpenSSL 0.9.5a+RSAref 2.0 trouble
Hello. I have been having trouble configuring the source code for the abovementioned. I have to use RSARef as I'm a resident of the USA, so I can avoid patent violation. The configure script fails to see the OpenSSL+RSAref mix on three different platforms, including the following: FreeBSD 4.0-STABLE (Which has its own port, but I wanted to try it there to see if I could reliably reproduce

anomalous wtmp logging bug
I've noticed rather strange wtmp logging behavior in sshd. Can anyone confirm or solve the following: Once a user authenticates themself to sshd, sshd among other things records the login in the wtmp, which `last` reads. However, sshd logs hostnames which are longer than 16 characters instead of IPs like normal programs would. As a result, I have useless entries such as: tempest

X11 forwarding between from Mandrake(sshd) to Caldera(ssh) doesn't work!
I am having great difficulty getting X11 forwarding to work between my openssh server (Linux Mandrake 6.1) and my openssh client (Caldera OpenLinux 2.x). I get "X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication." on the Caldera box when I ssh into the Mandrake box and try to run any X app. If I make the Caldera box the server all is fine and works perfectly. Static build segfaults on x86_64
Hello everyone, I would like to ask you for advice on how to approach (or solve) this particular problem. I use Slackware Linux and compile Openssh from source. I prefer to compile it statically so it doesn't get messed up if I update openssl libraries. Up until now this approach was working OK for me. Lately I have been challenged with Slackware64 installations and I have come across a

The tail of the syslog is :- Jun 1 10:56:15 firefly sshd[22176]: fatal: get_sock_port: getnameinfo NI_NUMERICSERV failed any ideas why I get this error? Although slack-current includes openssh I've actually built this one from source ( and openssl too ) in case it was a config issue with the slackware -current release (which

Really, really don't know exactly. :) Installed approx. 5 yeras ago (maybe 4.5, 4.6, maybe 5.0 ... who knows now ... ) > Which OpenSSL? 0.9.6a? 0.9.6b? 0.9.6c? 0.9.6d? Only info I found is 0.9.6. Password-Authentication with openssh-3.1p1 fails
Hallo out there, I've got a strange problem after updating my openssh-installation from 2.9.9p2 (SuSE-package) to openssh-3.1p1 (Installation from the source with a modified src.rpm). I will give you as much information as possible and I hope there is anybody who can help me. I asked in detail in usenet-groups but nobody had any idea to fix my problem by configuration. My system is a
