New liblogin release
Hi, I've just put a new version of liblogin[1] on my website. This version is fully tested on Linux RH6, OpenBSD, HPUX10.20 and Solaris 2.6. It may well work on other systems now, as it supports login(), [uw]tmp, [uw]tmpx, and lastlog (filemode only.) If you're feeling adventurous, please check out the web page and try it out. By 'tested', I mean that the library is known to

new login library alpha release
Hi, I've just posted an early alpha of a new login record library 'liblogin' to my website -> http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/andre.lucas/openssh.html . It's released as a patch, and it doesn't enable itself by default. Read the instructions first! This release is missing a lot of functionality, but is tested and working on Linux (RH6.0 anyway) and OpenBSD. Why you might

New liblogin 0.3alpha
FYI a new version of liblogin, 0.3alpha, is up on my website at http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/andre.lucas/liblogin.html This version fixes a few bugs and has implementations for the full API, including 'get last login time' support, even for systems without lastlog. New OpenSSH patches against 1.2.2 are also available, to enable the last login time features. Again, the function (in

Man pages on HPUX (and others?)
HPUX doesn't seem to ship with a set of troff macros that can handle the OpenSSH manpages. Maybe other OSs have this problem? Rather than sodding about with the tmac/ directory, I think we should do one of two things: 1. Ship a set of preformatted manpages, and either auto-install them in $prefix/man/cat{1,1m} or just have instructions in INSTALL to do so 2. Recommend users install groff

login code in a separate library?
Following on from an earlier discussion about login recording, I was toying with the idea of breaking out the login code into a separate library (in a subdirectory of the OpenSSH source tree) with its own configure script. I think this would serve three purposes: First, it would in the long run remove a lot of things from OpenSSH's configure script that, save for the login code, needn't

login.c: #ifdef wrong?
In login.c, I think the #ifdef in line 67 should be an #ifndef. Otherwise, the wrong lastlog mode is selected. Oops. I also changed the char array name (for the dirmode filename) to lbuf, as buf shadows the function parameter of the same name. Patch follows. swat and pam.d
Hello, Installed the binary RPM (http://de.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/7.1/) for samba 2.2.2 on my redhat 7.1 server. I got winbind to work and my samba server is now using NT usernames and groups. I was very unsure about how modify the pam.d files. The only file I changed was the /etc/pam.d/samba file. I pulled this configuration from another mail post.

Winbind and Samba
Hi all, I was wondering if someone could lend a little assistance. I recently setup SAMBA/Winbind to allow users to login to a Redhat 8 box using their Windows NT Domain credentials. All is working well in that regard. The issue I am having is getting regular UNIX based users to be able to login. The following is my PAM configuration. For example, if I try to login as root, it does not work.

Winbind authenticated users - no home directory

Authenticating against a Windows 2000 DC?
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the FAQ document for this list. I also could not find anything relevant in other Samba documentation sources like http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html. There seems to be plenty of information about using Samba *as* a DC, but I want to know if I can use Samba *with* a Windows 2000 DC. We have two DCs running Windows 2000, a W2K

help with winbind/pam
Hello, I'm trying to get a debian sid box to authenticate against an NT4 domain. I've followed the instructions in the winbindd man page and I think I'm on the right track. However, I'm having problems with PAM. As the winbindd man page suggests, I edited the /etc/nsswitch.conf and added some winbindd related stuff to my smb.conf file. I also edited the /etc/pam.d/* files.

Winbind issues
Several questions really (all on the stable 2.2.2 samba compiled with winbind and acls (and Brandon Stone's recycle bin), with a 2.4.14 kernel along with acls from acl.bestbits.at on a RedHat 7.2 box)... 1) Does anyone know how to stop the security event log on an NT PDC filling up with lots of ANONYMOUS accesses to the Security Account Manager eg: Object Open: Object Server: Security

Winbind trouble. Wbinfo see's users, "getent passwd" doesn't
I'm trying to set up a new fileshare, to replace an aging NT4 machine we've been using for far too long. I'd like to run Linux (RedHat 7.3) on the machine. Basically, I'm trying to create a fileshare "files" that people can transparently log in to from NT4 and Windows 2000 workstations. My boss has approved the use of Linux for the server, but only if I can make it

winbindd ?'s
Am I correct in my understanding that with winbindd (and PAM), I am able to authenticate PAM aware apps against an NT 4 domain with no passwd entries? If so, how would one get ssh working with this? I've followed the winbindd how-to and haven't been able to ssh into the box with winbindd using an account that only resides in the domain (i.e. isn't in the passwd file). Could
