scp with openssh on the server side and $PATH.
Hi!
When I try to use scp from or to a machine that runs openssh-1.2pre16
on Debian Linux, I keep getting the error message "scp: command not
found". Executing "ssh this-host echo \$PATH" yields
"/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:" which might be set in config.h.
sshd is installed to /usr/local/stow/openssh-1.2pre16/sbin, scp to

problems logging in from 1.2.2 client to 1.2.1pre24 server
Hi!
On my personal workstation, I have installed openssh 1.2.2. I have two
server machines, one (A) running a self-compiled openssh 1.2.1pre24,
and a different one (B) running an openssh1.2.1pre24 compiled by
someone else.
While I can perfectly log in to A, logging in to B fails:
|mh at leona[32/532]:~$ ssh haber at b
|ssh_exchange_identification: read: Success
|mh at leona[33/533]:~$

different servers on different ports
Hi,
I have the following unusual setup:
F is a firewall host. Its external Interface has IP 172.16.20.4, and
the internal Interface ist 192.168.215.1.
A and B are internal hosts with IPs 192.168.215.31 and 192.168.215.71.
F's port 10022 is transparently forwarded to A's port 22;
F's port 20022 is transparently forwarded to B's port 22.
So, connecting to 172.16.20.4:10022 gives

Can't sometimes mount smbfs
Hi!
I am using smbfs to mount a NT 4.0 SP3 disk to a Linux 2.0.33 box
(SuSE 5.1). This works most of the time. Sometimes, I get a syslog
entry
|Jun 26 23:03:10 palandt kernel: smb_dont_catch_keepalive: server->data_ready == NULL
on the smbmount command, which subsequently fails "illegal parameter".
What am I doing wrong?
I currently can't browse the digest archives because my

I have a file called /etc/exim/config that is required to be owned by

can't smbmount samba share
Hi!
I have a new machine on a network:
kemmer: New Linux box (kernel 2.0.36. Samba 1.9.18p10)
torres: old Linux box (kernel 2.0.36. Samba 1.9.18p10)
janeway: Windows NT 4.0 SP4.
torres and janeway are performing flawlessly, I can access both
machine's shares from the other one.
kemmer is new and can't access DNS yet. Thus, I have to use the -I
switch to smbclient and smbmount to access

smbmount and smb_dont_catch_keepalive
Hi!
I am experiencing strange smbmount problems with my 3 computers.
I have:
janeway, an NT 4.0 SP5 box,
torres, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.5a,
q, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36.
Both Linux machines have smbfs compiled as a module and loaded.
I can smbmount janeway shares on both torres and q, and I can see
torres shares on janeway. Naturally, q can't be seen by

makefile and path questions
Hi!
This morning, I found a system that was still running an ancient
samba. I immediately upgraded it to samba 1.9.18p1 and had the
opportunity to fiddle with the make file after not doing this for a
couple of months.
The default makefile sorts the files like this:
BINDIR (/usr/local/samba/bin)
smbpasswd
smbrun
smbclient
testparm
testprns
smbrun
smbstatus
smbpasswd

Selectively allowing port forwards
Hi!
The current version of sshd allows to restrict keys to issue only
specific commands. However, port forwarding can only be forbidden
entirely.
Given the following situation: A client C uses S as a POP3 server. We
want to poll E-Mail via POP3 from S to A via an ssh tunnel without
being asked for a password. Thus, we create a passphrase-less key pair
on A, transmit the public key to S and

smbspool to Windows 2000 Server: "ERRgeneral opening remote file"
Hi,
I am trying to print from my Debian unstable Notebook to a printer
that is connected to a Windows 2000 Server. Target environment is CUPS
which uses smbspool as a front-end, and smbspool gives a strange error
message.

[smbfs] Timing problems with kernel 2.2.x?
[Note: This has been posted to linux-kernel and was ignored. Since
smbfs is maintained by the samba team, I am retrying here]
Hi!
To maintain and install packages from CD-ROM to my Debian/GNU Linux
system, I use Debian's apt package. Since my Linux box is stowed away
in a closet, I use an smbfs mount to mount the CD-ROM drive from my
Windows desktop machine to the Linux box.

We do not use IDEA in OpenSSH anymore, it is patented in most
countries. Your private key is encrypted with it, change the
passphrase with the old ssh to nothing, then change the passphrase with

Net help analyzing logfiles: Printer permissions in Domain
Hi!
I am trying to print from an NT machine to a simple samba printer.
That NT machine is the PDC and the samba box is having logins
authenticated by the NT box.
When I try to access the printer with my own username, it works fine.
As soon as I have the account that is destined to do the printing
print, it can't log in.
I have included my smb.conf file and two log excerpts - one

another buglet in OSX dtrace? - cwd value
On Solaris 10, dtrace''s cwd yields a full path name:
# dtrace -n ''syscall:::entry { printf("%s", cwd); }''
0 1685 pollsys:entry /
0 1381 write:entry /data/homes/guest/rdm
...
On OSX, it yields just a directory name:

scp + .bashrc buglet
Hi OpenSSH folks,
Just a quick note: this is my .bashrc:
# Executed by non-login interactive shell
#
# scp go wild when it see this
#echo "<*> Executing ~/.bashrc from '$0'. Command line: '$*'"
#ps -H e
#echo "<*> Finished ~/.bashrc"
Line 3 was added and subsequent lines commented out.
Now scp works. Looks like a little scp bug for me.
