Setting up softflowd - set promiscuous or not?
Hi List,
I''m in the process of setting up softflowd 0.9.9 on a Centos 6.4 system
(compiled from source tarball).
The daemon will listen to an unused interface that is receiving port
mirrored traffic (a.la. Span port)
I am planning on using the softflowd init script and sysconfig file
provided in the tar ball.
Do I need to manually put the unused interface into promiscuous mode, or

Hello, list members,
can i limit pps rate with linux? How?
-m limit does not fit, as i understood: it can help with low rates only
(is that true? any suggestions?)
Thank you,

PPS Kit - Nanosecond timekeeping patches?
Can anyone comment on the easiest way to get the PPS Kit kernel patch to
work on a CentOS-5 system? I'd rather not use a plain vanilla kernel.

Limit pps not just bandwidth (kbps) on ingress
I want to limit pps (packets per second) not just bandwidth on the
ingress side. I can do this using IP tables but I''m curious if there is
a way to do this with TC.
Thanks.

PPS
Anyone know, or where I might find, how many packets per second can be
sustained with the new 2.6 kernel and various processors?

[PATCH v2] xen-netback: add a pseudo pps rate limit
VM traffic is already limited by a throughput limit, but there is no
control over the maximum packet per second (PPS).
In DDOS attack the major issue is rather PPS than throughput.
With provider offering more bandwidth to VMs, it becames easy to
coordinate a massive attack using VMs. Example: 100Mbits ~ 200kpps using
64B packets.
This patch provides a new option to limit VMs maximum packets per

Two attempts required to join domain
Hi Everyone.
I have run across an issue that is driving me crazy. This is a new deployment
of Samba v3.6.5 with openldap v2.4.30 and smbldap-tools v0.9.8
When trying to join the domain, on the first attempt the machine account is
properly created in the correct ou - e.g. ou=Computers,dc=domain,dc=local
But the "failed to join domain" pop-up with reason of "The user name could

problems building nfdump / nfsen
Hey folks, I posted this as part of another old thread but am starting
a new thread for it because I got no response. I've also since found
the nfdump mailing list but it seems to be dead. I was not able to
find either of these guys in a CentOS repository anywhere, so I'm
building them manually. Below was on CentOS 5.2.

Two repeatable crash bugs in Ferret proper
Hi guys! Been reading this list for a while.
I have two repeatable Ferret crash bugs, both seg faults.
1. The first bug appears to seg fault Ferret when you use quotes in a search
argument (eg ''file_name:"file name"'')
2. The second bug appears to seg fault Ferret when you attempt to index text
with very long tokens (above 256 chars). It may have something to do with

Odd kernel panic, repeatable
I had an old server die; we had another, same model, sitting around lightly
used, so I did what I've done before: swap the RAID card into that, swap the
drives, even putting them in the same bays as the dead one, and boot.
Nope. 100% of the time, when it hits switching roots, it kernel panics.
Adding rdshell to the kernel line does nothing, I get no grub rdshell. Booting
