Class dependency question
So I have two classes for openvz setup. The first is openvz::setup
and it sets up the box for OpenVZ.. then another class (in same .pp
file) called openvz::master sets up the config for the main system (as
opposed to a VE). The error I see is that the openvz::master class is
executed (and fails) becuase it doesn''t seem to load up the setup
class?

SMART for SATA devices ?
I noticed that the changelog for the new kernel 2.6.9-34 on the redhat
enterprise watchlist states on of the fixes as;
145061 - SMART support in SATA driver (P1)
Does this mean that with that kernel we should be able to interrogate SATA drives now ?
Cheers,
Bards.

LVM Snapshots -broken ? Ever worked ?
I've upgraded my x86_64 4.2 box to the latest kernel 2.6.9.34 and tried
an lvm snapshot. It worked fine and I was able to mount the snapshot
etc. Now I cannot seem to remove the snapshot. If I try a 'lvremove'
it asks if I want to remove the 'active' snapshot, if I say yes it just
hangs and the box goes to 99% wait io, however the disk lights do not
come on during this. The

OpenNode (CentOS based) virtualization solution preview released
Hi,
We have released first preview release of OpenNode -
http://opennode.activesys.org - an open source server virtualization
solution providing easy to use (CentOS based) bare-metal ISO installer
and supporting both OpenVZ container-based virtualization and KVM full
virtualization technology on the same physical host out-of-the-box. So
everybody who wants to use OpenVZ and KVM together on

Random Disk I/O Tests
I have two openvz servers running Centos 6.x both with 32GB of RAM.
One is an Intel Xeon E3-1230 quad core with two 4TB 7200 SATA drives
in software RAID1. The other is an old HP DL380 dual quad core with 8
750GB 2.5" SATA drives in hardware RAID6. I want to figure out which
one has better random I/O performance to host a busy container. The
DL380 currently has one failed drive in the

USB Stick Install
Hello all,
I'm looking at setting up a sort of 'appliance' server and as such
its really not going to have a lot packages etc. I thought of installing
4.2 on a 1gb USB stick, however, the stick is not even recongnized by
anaconda. It did appear when I did 'modprobe usb-storage.ko' as /dev/sdc
(i have already have 2 SATA disks which are sda, sdb). Then the disk

OS Virtualization: Linux-VServer and OpenVZ
Greetings,
So, anyone on this list using OS Virtualization? I've been using OpenVZ for about 1.5 years. I also have some experience with Linux-VServer.
In my experience, if you want to do Linux on Linux, both OpenVZ and Linux-VServer offer native performance, better scalability, and higher density than VMware, Xen or KVM... although I must admit I haven't actually tried KVM yet.

Problem getting x86_64 dom0 to boot on a FC4 machine
I''m struggling to get Xen to boot on a FC4 Opteron box. I''ve included the
tail of the boot log below [1]. I suspect that the problems relates to the
software RAID 1 root and boot partitions, and how it relates to the initrd
image. The RAID volumes fail to mount.
I compiled the Xen snapshot from the 23rd September, and the only change
I''ve made is to enable the

segfault with failed to set uid
Hi,
I having intermittent problems which trigger the below segfault. Would
love to know what the problem is, and will gladly take any suggestions
as to how to troubleshoot this.
When this segfault happen, the windows clients sometimes report "write
delay failed".
This machine is an OpenVZ virtual machine, with a bridged interface.

2 node cluster, Heartbeat2, self-fencing
Hello everyone.
I am currently working on setting up new servers for my employer. Basically we
want two servers, all of them running several VEs (virtual environments,
OpenVZ) which can dynamically take over each others job if necessary. Some
services will run concurrently on both servers like apache2 (load balancing),
so those need concurrent access to specific data.
We had a close look at

Kernel oopses with gluster fuse on squeeze
Hi,
We've been experiencing repeated (every other day) oopses on hosts with
high load glusterfs accesses. Co-occurrent (not immediately tho, but there
is some sort of connection) are hanging nginx processes (doing the
accessing), which can not be stopped, killed and also block the shutdown of
the respective openvz instance. I think I remember at least one instance
where this occurred without

Puppet Module for Virtualization Management
Hi all!
Puppet [0] is an Open Source data center automation and configuration
management framework. Puppet provides system administration with a
simplified platform that allows for consistent, transparent, and flexible
system management. Puppet can be extended with new modules, which are
reusable, sharable units of Puppet code.
This year, during the Google Summer of Code [1], I developed a new

rsync 2.6.0 causing incredible load on Linux 2.4.x?
Hi everyone. Has anyone experienced rsync 2.6.0 causing huge amounts of
system load? Especially on Linux 2.4?
We recently upgraded our "push" machine to rsync 2.6.0 and the next push
that went out (rsyncing about 3GB of data to 15 servers sequentially
over gigabit ethernet) caused the box to hit 110.59. We only know the
load because snmpd was still working, but nothing else in userspace

State of Asterisk+Virtualization+Timing
Greetings-
I'm about to dive into the process of virtualizing some of my Asterisk (primarily 1.4.x) infrastructure. In the past, when looking at virt solutions, the primary issue preventing me from moving was the lack of proper timing. We do not need it for MeetMe but rather for IAX2 trunking. I'd like to use either OpenVZ or KVM, but each seem to have independent "issues" that

core dump after live migrating virtualized environment
Dear Samba-
We're using the virtualization application openVZ to run small web
services for researchers. Unlike other virtualization software, openVZ
uses the host file system for the guest OS; essentially the root file
system of the guest is a chrooted subdirectory on the host.
When openVZ migrates a guest between two host machines it uses rsync
to transfer the files. Unfortunately, this

OpenVZ variant
Greetings,
I was reading the LWN article from today (free to non-subscribers next Thursday). Here's a subscriber link for those who might want to see it now:
CentOS and Red Hat - http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/592723/485ea802859f6c36/
I saw that Xen was mentioned as an area where CentOS went beyond RHEL with CentOS 6... and being that I'm deeply in the OpenVZ community, I thought it

Virtual backend network
Hi all,
I have a root server on which I am using Xen to segregate various tasks
(mail/www...)
At the moment I have the various domains all bridged and talking to the
world via their own IP addresses (dom0 has one IP, the others are in a
different subnet).
I would like that much of the network to remain the same, but to have a
second, virtual network, to allow me to have home directories

Drupal/MySQL performance in Xen and OpenVZ
Hi,
We are considering a transition from OpenVZ to Xen for our web server
infrastructure. The primary task performed by the virtual servers is to run
a number of Drupal sites with a MySQL backend. The webserver and MySQL
servers are on separate virtual hosts. We also have a number of smaller
hosts running on the same hardware (a couple of dev-servers, a
logging-and-monitoring server, a secondary
