Random thought: I wonder if some commands are making unwarranted
assumptions about the descriptors they inherit?

openssh-3.4p1 built on Tru64 Unix 5.1a - bug with sftpd
Dear openssh-unix-dev;
I recently downloaded the tarball openssh-3.4p1 and built it for my
Tru64 Unix ( OSF/1 ) 5.1a system. My configure statement is:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/security/tools/openssh-3.4p1 \
--exec-prefix=/usr/local/security/tools/openssh-3.4p1 \
-with-ssl-dir=/usr/local/security/tools/openssl-0.9.6g \
-with-zlib-dir=/usr/local/compress/tools/zlib-1.1.3 \

Could you try adding a "#define BROKEN_GETADDRINFO 1" to config.h and then doing
a "make clean ; make" (don't rerun configure after adding the #define)
Please tell us whether or not that helps?

Problem with sftp-server on Tru64 (long long type and %ll)
The ls_file function in sftp-server.c calls snprintf with "%8llu" as
part of the format string and a "unsigned long long" type argument.
The "%ll" format is not a valid format on Tru64 (at least 4.0F).
Apparently it can confuse snprintf as well - sftp-server will segfault
and core dump if the user types "ls".
This isn't really a needed format string on

rsync-3.0.3 on TRU64 5.1a w/ provided c compiler
This is less of a question and more of just an FYI to any other poor soul
that happens to run into the same problem that I just spent 3 hours trying
to correct.
I was working on getting rsync 3.0.3 compiled on a TRU64 5.1 alpha system,
using the provided (compaq?) c-compiler.
The first step was to set the compile flags:
CC=cc
CFLAGS='-std1 -O'
export CC CFLAGS
Then run the configure

Compile of OpenSSH 3.7.1p2 failing - TRU64 5.1A
All,
I'm getting the following error message when trying to 'make' OpenSSH
3.7.1p2:
cc: Severe: compress.c, line 19: Cannot find file "zlib.h" specified in
#include directive. (noinclfilef)
#include "zlib.h"
-^
*** Exit 1
Stop.
What can I do to get this to compile correctly?
Thanks in advance,

patch: readline support for sftp
Hello,
I hope this is the right place to post this.
I added readline support to the sftp client. It adds optional
--with-readline parameter for configure to enable this feature. You'll
of course need to re-run autoheader and autoconf after applying this
patch.
It's patched against 3.4p1 but should work with any recent openssh. It
works fine for me (GNU/Linux) - feel free to test it and

openssh 3.1 and rsync dont work - BUTssh 2.9.9.p1 does !
We have AIX 4.3.3 ML09 and AIX 5.1 ML01
I have narrowed the problem down, it is nothing to do with
uni/multiprocessor machines.
Both rsync 2.3.1 compiled by Bull in an installp and a gcc compiled
version of 2.4.5 ( by me ) both have exactly the same problem with SSH
3.1.p1 and both DONT have the problem with SSH 2.9.9p1 - so I assume this
is something highly specific to SSH 3.1.1.p1
Hope this

3.4p1 Error on Tru64 Unix - cannot set login uid
Hi,
I have recently loaded Openssh 3.4p1 on an Tru64 Unix 5.1A system.
I followed the installation instructions described in INSTALL, essentially
using all default settings, and it went throught without any obvious errors.
I can then use the root account to initiate outbound and inbound ssh calls,
and can log on without any problems.
The trouble is that when I try to use ssh to log in (from a
