"ls -l" command and performance of sftp
Hi all,
I am using OpenSSH4.3p2. User database is stored in LDAP server. When I tried
to list about 400 files using "ls -l" command in ftp and sftp, I observed
that sftp took considerable amount of time greater than ftp. I suspect sftp
does not cache the username and groupname lookups and makes fresh calls to
getpwuid(), getgrgid() functions for each file that makes its performance

winbind caused "ls -l" hang on solaris 8
Hi Guys
I compiled Samba 3.0.26a --with-ads and --with-winbind with krb5-1.6.2
and openldap-2.3.38 using
gcc version 3.4.6 on Solaris 8.
and added winbind in passwd entry in /etc/nsswitch.conf
passwd: files winbind
The problem is the entry "passwd: files winbind" in /etc/nsswitch.conf
caused "ls -l" and Samba hang.
If winbind is removed from nsswitch.conf, "ls

OpenSSH_4.3p2 on AIX ssh-agent does not work
After installing this OpenSSH build on our AIX v5.2 systems, some users
started complaining that their logins failed.
We are using the binary build "OpenSSH 4.3p2-r2 for AIX 5.2" posted on
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openssh-aix/
Digging deeper, we find that these failing users have their clients
configured to use ssh-agent.
this appears in the syslog at the time of their attempted

ls -l name lookup not working with winbind Samba 3.14a
Hi,
I would be grateful for any help with this.
We are running Samba 3.0.14a with winbind, libiconv and acl support.
We are running a Veritas cluster between two Solaris 8 servers.
The Samba share is mounted on an external disk which is hosted by either
server.
The problem is that our Samba share while visible and accessible from the
command prompt cannot be listed with a name lookup ls

The idmap backend is set to a ldap server that is also joined the the AD.
The UIDS between the boxes are fine as you can do a getent passwd

ls -l hang, process unkillable
hello,
one of my colleague has a problem with an application. the sysadmins, responsible for that server told him that it was the applications fault, but i think they are wrong, and so does he.
from time to time, the app gets unkillable and when trying to list the contents of some dir which is being read/written by the app, "ls" can list the contents, but "ls -l" gets stuck

ls -l output
OK, this should be an easy fix but I can't find it, and it's strictly
a cosmetic's issue.
on our older Gentoo systems if you do an ls -a it orders the results
with all the . files ordered alphabetically then all the non-hidden
files alphabetically. it also sorts with capitals first.
on the new Centos 5.3 systems ls -a returns all the files sorted
alphabetically with

Samba ACL and '+' on a 'ls - l'
Dear Guys,
I have noticed that one of our domain users folder in
/var/lib/samba/profiles has a '+' on the end of their username folder
and all the files in their profile too.
I know this is to do with ACL's and I know Samba can translate Windows
ACL's to filesystem acls, but where can I find out where/how they are
getting created and remove them.
They should be know different

ls -l hangs
I just installed Samba 2.2.7a, --with-winbind --with-pam. Everything
appears to be working great, as far as logging in, authenicating to a Windows
2000 domain, creating/saving files. BUT, when I login to the UNIX box as root
and goto the shared directory and type ls -al, all I get is:
total 4
drwxrwxrwx 2 root other 512 Jan 30 09:44 .
drwxr-xr-x 32 root root 1024 Jan 29

ls and getfacl hanging with nt authentication
I have Samba 3.0.2a running on Solaris 8 compiled with winbind and
authenticating against an NT domain.
every time I run a "ls -l" or "getfacl" the command line hangs as it's
tries to pull down all the user/group details from the domain.
I heard this may have something to do with nscd (nameservice cache
daemon?) which is running on the solaris machine.
Any thoughts

SFTP ls directory listing incorrect
This is from one up-to-date Fedora 17 system to another, using openssh RPMs
version 5.9p1-26.fc17.x86_64. Listing a directory from a terminal opened
via ssh is shown below, but listing the same directory from sftp is
slightly wrong i.e., file sizes/flags/timestamps of two files are swapped.
dan at localhost:/tmp> ls -l peers.*

sftp ls problem upgrading from 2.9.9p2 to 3.0.2p1 on Linux
I am running two Red Hat 6.2 servers with the 2.2.16 kernel. I am
running OpenSSH_2.9.9p2 (SSH proto 2) and OpenSSL 0.9.5a 1 on both with
no problems. I am having problems upgrading to OpenSSH 3.0.2p1 on both
systems. After doing a gnu make installation, ssh works fine, but sftp
displays fourteen digit numbers instead of file names when you do an ls
listing of directory contents. File transfers
