Feature Request: PID writeout on background
Hi all.
I have a simple feature request for the devs and maintainers; when
forking into the background using the -f optarg one would normally have
to consult the process table of whatever OS they're running to find the
process. Would you consider adding another optarg to write the PID out
to stdout or a pidfile? This would be rather helpful in several
usecases.
Thanks,

ssh -f & pid
Hi,
Ssh -f forks itself in the background. Very usefull if you would like to
e.g. tunnel munin over ssh. Now it's tricky to terminate one process if
you have multiple running.
It seems that ssh currently (looked at 5.1p1) has no write-pid-to-file
functionality
So I implemented a patch which do so. Tested it a little and it seems to
work. Hopefully it is of any use in my form or inspires the

ssh wish list?
Hey all,
So I do some development based on openssh and I'm trying to think of
some new projects that might extend the functionality, feature set, user
workflow, performance, etc of ssh.
So open ended question:
Do any of you have a wish list of things you'd like to see in ssh?
Mostly I'm just curious to see what the larger community is thinking of
rather than being driven

Icecast Logging
I have some questions about Icecast logging...
How close is Icecast logging to the Apache logging format? Can you customize
the output options like Apache?
We've used several tools to process our Icecast logs in the past, including
Webalizer and Urchin. Urchin seems to report some slightly erroneous data.
What have others used for processing Icecast's access.log file?

Security implications of using ControlMaster
Dear Mailing List
We are using a ControlMaster with a short ControlPersist to access the
bastion host which then gives access to customer hosts.
Our Information Security Manager would like to disallow the
ControlMaster. His attack scenario is an admin workstation with a
compromised root account. An attacker can then use the ControlMaster to
trivially get shell access on the bastion host

ControlMaster, scp and current working directory
Hi,
It seems there is a problem regarding ControlMaster and scp'ing a file
depending on the current working directory:
$ cd ~/Personnel
$ scp -o ControlMaster=yes cox.jpg host.local:
muxserver_listen bind(): No such file or directory
lost connection
$ scp -o ControlMaster=no cox.jpg host.local:
cox.jpg 100% 222KB 222.1KB/s 00:00
$ cd
$ scp -o

ControlPath versus ProxyCommand
TL;DR: I expect ProxyCommand to have effect in preference to ControlPath.
I've just tripped over this one. I have an ssh Host (let us call it "MAIN")
with a ControlPath and with ControlMaster=no, from the .ssh/config file.
I also have a shell script whose purpose is to hop to a remote host through a
port forward, which uses the ProxyCommand option like this:
ProxyCommand ssh

Patch: open port forwards from slave
We run ssh from a program and needed to add port-forwards dynamically.
The ~C method turns out to be very cumbersome to use since it reads from
/dev/tty. But then I came to think of the master/slave functionality
(which we already used) which seemed a perfect place for this
functionality. Unfortunately it turned out not to be possible to set up
new port forwards in a slave.
So I patched openssh

ControlMaster and packet stuffing
When I'm running interactive ssh session which is ControlMaster and I run scp
or sftp to same host, creating another channel, it seems that ssh is stuffing
the packets together exceeding MTU.
I've for years ran QoS where I prioritize small packets, as it is clean and
easy way to guarantee low latency to pretty much all you care for.
Unfortunately ControlMaster packet stuffing breaks this,

ControlMaster auto and stderr
I use ControlMaster auto (along with ControlPath) in my ssh config and
find it very handy.
I have noticed an annoying behavior, though: it seems that if there is
no existing master connection and ssh creates a new one, the master
connection process that is started has its stderr left open.
This has manifested itself in two ways so far:
(1) When using ssh day-to-day, I may be doing some work and

%h,%p,%u expansion for ControlPath
This allows me to set 'ControlPath ~/.ssh/sockets/%h.%p.%u' for example.
Have I missed a good reason why ssh_connect finds the default port
number for itself instead of just having it in options.port (like we do
for the the default in options.user)?

Feature suggestion: sftp over ssh client in a single connection
It has always bugged me that if I want to use a shell and perform some
file transfers in a single host I have to take two SSH connections:
one for the shell via ssh(1) and one for the file transfer via
sftp(1). Some graphical SSH clients can perform sftp operations and
ssh shell access in a single connection by using SSH2 protocol's
support for multiple channels.
So I hacked my openssh client

rsync command for multi files and dirs from remote server
Hi there,
okay so I have a port knocker installed on my remote server so I am
trying to bundle a bunch of directories in a single ssh session that
rsync establishes. so far all the rsync examples I have seen require a
new ssh session for each directory.
is there anyway to get something like this into one line and therefore
one ssh session. Clues on this?

/usr/bin/rsync -avrz

feature request: single flag to unset ControlPath
While it's real handy to have "ControlMaster auto" to have multiple
sessions get muxed into one, sometimes it's really helpful to _not_
use the same session (e.g. if you want to ssh -2fNR).
It'd be quite nice if there were a flag to tell openssh to not mux
the new connection at all - i.e. what "ssh -o ControlPath=none"
does. (The 'obvious' invocation `ssh
