Thanks for that. I reliazed there was an issue with the PATH. I've
corrected the PATH, however now I get the following error:

checking whether vsnprintf returns correct values on overflow... yes

I suspect you built OpenSSL as a shared library. From the config.log:
gcc [options] -I/usr/local/ssl -L/usr/local/ssl -R/usr/local/ssl
conftest.c
Those should be -I/usr/local/ssl/include -L/usr/local/ssl/lib
-R/usr/local/ssl/lib but I'm not

"ar" is usually in /usr/ccs/bin on Solaris.

Your OpenSSL headers do not match your library
Hello,
I recently installed a newer version of OpenSSL on my system and decided to
get the latest of OpenSSH as well. I installed OpenSSL 0.9.8k without any
difficulty. When I tried to install OpenSSH, however, I got this message:
checking OpenSSL header version... 9080bf (OpenSSL 0.9.8k 25 Mar 2009)
checking OpenSSL library version... 90701f (OpenSSL 0.9.7a Feb 19 2003)

[PATCH] Solaris 10 and missing OpenSSL functions >128bit
Hi all.
Solaris 10's default libcrypto does not have support for AES 192 and 256
bit functions. The attached patch, against -current, and based partially
on an earlier one by djm, will use OpenSSH's builtin rijndael code for
all AES crypto functions and thus will allow it to build and function
on Solaris 10 without the extra crypto packages (SUNWcry, SUNWcryr)
or a locally built OpenSSL.
