KStars on CentOS 4.4?
Is there an RPM for this? I think it's in the kdeedu package on the FC6 DVD. My wife is an amateur astronomer and she uses this excellent program. If upstream isn't including it, can I get it and not break my CentOS 4.4 system? (Also, I'd like to migrate her and my daughter to CentOS). TIA, Lanny

SOLVED: Re: KStars on CentOS 4.4?
I was able to install the kdeedu RPM, from the Fedora Core 3 Install DVD, without any problem, on my CentOS 4.4 box and KStars is up and running and has been updated. :-) The bad news is that I didn't learn anything, by doing it this quick and simple way, so now I'm going to begin reading about creating my own RPMs. When I get the CentOS 5.0 install DVD, that will be another issue for

Weird PXE calling convention question
Hi, I am mucking around with the pxelinux code for S&G's and I have a generic question about the pxe calling convention: Does the parameter structure and opcode HAVE to be passed onto the stack the PXE BIOS passed in when the pxelinux binary is executed at 0:7C00? The PXE spec says: "SS:SP is to contain the address of the beginning of the unused portion of the PXE services

NUT problem
A little while ago I changed my UPS to Leibert and installed NUT. Everything worked as expected. Today I tried to use the MultiLink Viewer icon from the desktop, but it simply accepted the root password without apparently doing anything. I can run the viewer directly (as root) from a file manager. The icon is owned by me, but the application is set to run as root. I suspect that the

kde-file manager su mode
hi y'all, ...realize that maybe I should go to kde w/this but then, I do run centos on my systems soooo... kk I like to run kde's file manager in super user mode. On one of my systems, it's acting it's ass...as my default editor I do use kwrite and I normally set that up to open any text type file w/that but for some reason, on this one certain system, I can't navigate among

su, context(selinux?) 2nd prompt
With a recent update of CentOS4, su's behavior has changed, in that after prompting for password, also prompts for (selinux?) context. I'm seeing something like: $ su Password: Your default context is root:system_r:unconfined_t. Do you want to choose a different one? [n] kde's kdesu barfs on this second prompt. Any way to disable this second prompt? -- Rex

Centos 4 plus KDE 3.4 from kde-redhat.sourceforge.net. Space key not working on buttons.
Hi All, very strange problem in any kde application, when the current tab position is on a button, pressing the space key, just highlights the button as it is pressed, but does not trigger the action behind the button. It is like, the mouse-down is working, but the mouse-up does not. I checked with GTK applications and Firefox - they work, pressing the space on a button triggers the action

Lost my menu options again - KDE messes with Gnome?
This was a problem I had a while back. I lost the "Preferences" menu item in my "Applications" menu in Gnome. After much discussion, the following commands got my "Preferences" menu item back, along with all the applications inside of it: rpm -e redhat-artwork redhat-menus --nodeps --allmatches yum install redhat-artwork redhat-menus But... For some reason it

Problems after performing yum update
I performed the update yesterday that included installing kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.EL and replacing ethereal with wireshark. First, the trivial... Wireshark would not run from the KDE menu without editing the menu to change the command from "wireshark" to "kdesu wireshark" because dumpcap is at usr/sbin/dumpcap instead of /usr/bin/dumpcap . Making the change causes wireshark to

CentOS for non-tech user
I'm thinking of giving CentOS to a non-tech user for her new desktop. He needs are small. She has been used to Mozilla for both mail and browsing, so equivalents there are not a problem. She needs grip and lame, for her mp3s - again no problem. In fact the only problem I can see is that gwenview doesn't appear to have the kipi-plugins. I can see libkipi listed, but no plugins,

DVD reader: Hardware problem or OS glitch?
Hello: The box is dual boot (Win XP & CentOS 5). A Dell Dimension 4300 Celeron. There was an intermittent problem with this last year and last Thanksgiving, I wiped the HD and installed Win XP and CentOS 5 clean. My daughter asked me to install KStars which is in the kdeedu RPM on the Fedora Core 6 Install DVD. I did that, without any problems, on my box and on my wife's box. On the
