MAX_SESSIONS Increase Impact
I'm hoping this is the the right location for this question.... I've been working with some developers that are desiring to use the multiplexing capabilities of OpenSSH, but have hit the default limit of 10. I've seen some discussions of increasing this default limit previously and have noticed that some of the Linux distros have increased the number to 64; I'm curious of the

xrealloc namespace conflict
I have a package on CRAN now (corpus-0.3.1) that is currently failing tests on Linux, but passing on all other architectures: https://cran.r-project.org/web/checks/check_results_corpus.html I believe that the issue arrises from a namespace class between "xrealloc", which my package provides for internal use, but which R also seems to provide (possibly as part of TRE in

OpenSSH Security Advisory: buffer.adv
This is the 1st revision of the Advisory. This document can be found at: http://www.openssh.com/txt/buffer.adv 1. Versions affected: All versions of OpenSSH's sshd prior to 3.7 contain a buffer management error. It is uncertain whether this error is potentially exploitable, however, we prefer to see bugs fixed proactively. 2. Solution: Upgrade to OpenSSH

which are the exact effects of MaxSessions
Hey. I wondered a bit which the exact effects of MaxSessions are. The documentation says: Specifies the maximum number of open sessions permitted per net? work connection. The default is 10. And it apparently seems that setting e.g. the following in sshd_config: MaxSessions 0 => no logins possible at all MaxSessions 1 => control channel muxing basically

More than 10 open sessions
Hi, we use OpenSSH_3.8.1p1 and we would like to change the complete printer Spool communication from Unix r-Commands to ssh "OpenSSH". Sometimes, we have problems, because of very high connection set-ups in extremely short time intervals, more than 10 open sessions. The connection set-up is partly declined with the error message: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote

MaxDisplays configuration option
Hello, I manage OpenSSH on a dozen or so servers that act as gateways for a large amount of developers and system administrators. On these servers it is common for there to be more than 1000 active X11 forwards active at peak usage. Beyond ~1000 active X11 forwards, sshd will fail to bind additional ports due to a hard coded range check in channels.c that limits the port range that sshd will

SIGCHLD race *trivial* patch
Yes, this is a patch against an older version of OpenSSH with other stuff anyways, BUT, it's so TRIVIAL(*), that you can see how it would apply to newer versions (which I've not tried). Here's the gist: server_loop2() has a race condition with respect to reception of SIGCHLD and checking/setting child_terminated. This patch does two things: wait_until_can_do_something() adds a 1

Exiting ssh when MaxSessions=0
Hi, I've been experimenting with MaxSessions=0 in the sshd_config and have encountered one unfortunate problem. Once the client authenticates to the server, it ceases to respond to keyboard input. At first glance, it looks like the client is in a hung state and does not time out. If port forwarding was requested on the command-line and the server accepts the request, that continues to work.

null pointer dereference in krl.c?
Hi, In ssh_krl_from_blob(), krl.c:984, /* Record keys used to sign the KRL */ xrealloc(ca_used, nca_used + 1, sizeof(*ca_used)); ca_used[nca_used++] = key; The result of `xrealloc' is never assigned to `ca_used', which remains a null pointer. Will ca_used[...] crash?. Did I miss anything? Thanks. - xi
