Major documentation bug
This information needs to be in the etc/ssh/sshd_config file.
.13 - I upgraded to OpenSSH 3.8 and some X11 programs stopped working.
As documented in the 3.8 release notes
<http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-3.8>, |ssh| will now use untrusted
X11 cookies by default. The previous behaviour can be restored by
setting *ForwardX11Trusted yes* in /ssh_config/.

NEdit Highligth patterns for R
Hi
I've just submitted to the NEdit development team a R highligth patterns
for NEdit (www.nedit.org).
NEdit is a text editor for LINUX which I use to write small R functions.
In my opinion is a very good tool for small scripts, maybe for huge
projects is not the best.
I'm attaching the R-5.1.pats file so you can try it.
As usual contributions and comments are welcome.
Regards

OpenSSH v3.8p1 fails to interoperate for GSSAPI (Kerberos) and X-Windows
Versions: openssh-3.8p1-33, heimdal-0.6.1rc3-51, XFree86-4.3.99.902-40,
tk-8.4.6-37, all from SuSE 9.1 (unhacked); back-version peers have
openssh-3.5p1, XFree86-4.3.0-115, etc. from SuSE 8.2.
Symptoms:
1. When the client and server versions are unequal, the Kerberos ticket
is not accepted for authentication. All the clients have
PreferredAuthentications gssapi-with-mic, gssapi, others.

RE: [R-gui] NEdit Highligth patterns for R
Hi
I agree with your comments and of course you identifie the problems
regarding the implementation of your suggestions.
Of course we'd need bidireccional communication to implement it. I think
it's impossible to do it statically.
What I want with NEdit is a very ligth editor (which jedit is not) that
highlights the most important language syntax, so that It becomes easier
to write

New highlighting for NEdit 5.3
Hi,
I've just put together a new R syntax highlighting file for Nedit 5.3.
I've borrow the "base" functions of Jedit (thanks to Tobias Elze and Zed
A. Shaw) so now NEdit highlights a little more than before :)
You can download the file here:
http://ernesto.freezope.org/cmf/starthere/r/R-5.3.pats
Just import it into NEdit with

Hi all,
I have just uploaded an R syntax highlighting pattern for NEdit -

Summary on R script editor
Thanks for the advice, folks!
Shravan Vasishth <vasishth at ling.ohio-state.edu>
Try pico.
There's no substitute for/comparison with emacs, though, IMHO.
but just to be sure: you don't have to have ESS to use (x)emacs for
editing R scripts.
Sven Garbade <garbade at psy.uni-muenchen.de>
ESS can be installed via rpm on Mandrake.

Hidden files problem in R CMD check
Dear Simon,
Thank you very much for your help, it did solve my problems!! Great!
I have googled COPYFILE_DISABLE and found the following site which does
explain the issue with tar on Mac OS X, see:
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/9665/create-tar-archive-of-a-directory-except-for-hidden-files
Instead of doing:
$tar czf xps_1.29.2.tar.gz xps
I did now:
$COPYFILE_DISABLE=1 tar czf

MagiC PC installer doesn't like wine
I've wine installed as part of SuSE Linux 9.1 Pro and it works fine for several windows prgs.
I try to install the Atari emulator Magic PC (because it is better than STonX).
Wine starts the installer of MagiC, Setup.exe, which gives the message "can't open ...
Setup.ex_".
Setup.exe works under win98 but under wine it looks for itself with the wrong extension .ex_

Text file encoding
I'm working with some people using apple laptops. When we share text
files (latex files), I reach in an encoding problem on our CentOS
laptops and desktops. In my favorite editor, "?" is "<8e>", "?" is
"<88>" etc...
Of course, I can change the encoding with iconv:
iconv -f MACINTOSH -t ISO8859-15 file.bib.mac >file.bib

rpart output: rule extraction beyond path.rpart()
Greetings -
Is there a way to automatically perform what I believe is called "rule
extraction" (by Quinlan and the machine learning community at least) for
the leaves of trees generated by rpart? I can use path.rpart() to
automatically extract the paths to the leaves, but these can be
needlessly cumbersome. For example, one path returned by path.rpart()
might be:
