dmalloc (http://dmalloc.com/) claims to work on IRIX. It's likely to increase
the CPU and memory load, though.
I've built with dmalloc on Linux thusly:
LDFLAGS=-ldmalloc ./configure && make
eval `dmalloc -l /path/to/log high`
./sshd [options]

Root privilege solution
I want to set up RSYNC so it has root privilege on the remote server. I do not want to run rsync through inetd.
I want to be able to limit who can use rsync when the remote end has root privilege. I prefer not to use rsync's
internal user/secrets file. I do want to use SSH as the transport shell. With that in mind, here is what I tried.
I wrapped the rsync single use daemon execution on the

sshd crashing on IRIX (3.6.1p1)
Occasionally, we're noticing that sshd is core dumping on our IRIX
6.5.18f machine.
The only time we've really noticed it is when users are logging in with
putty from offsite (although I'm not really sure it's a client issue).
The user manages to log in, sshd apparently core dumps, but the user is
not logged out, the privilege separated user is still running their own

IRIX compilation and openbsd-compat/basename.h
I was trying to compile openssh-3.6.1p1 on IRIX and ran across this
error while compiling progressmeter.c:

with "char *basename(const char *)" (declared at line 9 of

What's the status of this?
At the moment, my understanding is:
* a bug exists in getaddrinfo in IRIX 6.5.18 and up
* defining BROKEN_GETADDRINFO causes a type clash with gai_strerror
* solving the type clash results in an sshd that works OK

suggestion: saving old binaries during installation
Just as a suggestion, I liked the way the ssh.com's ssh would move the
old binaries to filename.old then install the new ones....so that way
you have an old copy to revert back to if needed (without copying them
all by hand).

unicorn doesn't restart properly after cap deploy (not using Bundler)
Hey guys,
I''m sending USR2 to unicorn after cap deploy, and the old master is
getting replaced by a new master that doesn''t work.

Using "root" Type User Via Forwarding-SSH-Tunnel Inside Non-Root SSH Connection
Hi,
QUESTION:
what implications are there when using the "root" or a root type of
account via a port-forwarding ssh-tunnel inside (or on top of)
another non-root type of user's ssh-tunnel ?
Is such double layer of encryption brings more security or system
still vulnerable same as single layer of SSH encryption ?
DETAILS:
In CentOS (6.3 & 6.4) server side i have done these:

5.1p on RHEL 3 and password expiration
[ Sorry for the length of this; I felt it better to provide potentially
too much info, rather than not enough. I've probably missed something
that's important, though! ]
I have an odd problem with 5.1p on RHEL3 if "UsePAM yes" and
"UsePrivilegeSeparation no" is set. The code detects that the user
password is aged (according to shadow) but then fails to let me

Environment passing in Solaris 8 with later versions of SSH and U seLogin=yes
Hi,
I've got the following issue, which I'm unable to resolve by myself.
Hopefully, someone on the list will be able to guide me, or provide more
information towards resolving this.
We've compiled OpenSSH v3.7.1p1 (which I know is not the most recent
version) on Solaris 8 SPARC, and have noticed that when the "UseLogin=yes"
parameter is set in the sshd_config file, the

with-tcp-wrappers enable ?
Hello,
I try to compile openssh-2.9p1 on a SGI Origin 200 computer under IRIX
6.5 with the option --with-tcp-wrappers enable. I have also compiled
tcp-wrapper and have installed the library libwrap.a in /usr/lib and the
file tcpd.h in /usr/include.
When i run the ./configure script i have a error. The script asked me
that the libwrap is missing.
How can i resolve this ?
Thanks.

Switchtower (0.10.0), ssh and environment confusion
Seems like my day for Rails posts... :)
OK. I''ve started using Swtichtower to help with deploying changes to my
production rails apps. Unfortunately I''ve come accros an inconsistency that I
can''t quite figure out. It''s about the PATH env var under Bash. I''ve created a
task that just does a: run "env", to show what I''m seeing:

sshd: SSH_CLIENT_CERT and SSH_CLIENT_PUBKEY env variables
Hello,
There are environment variables SSH_CLIENT and SSH_CONNECTION
with information about client of current session.
I want to implement new variables with info about credentials used for session authentication.

SSH_CLIENT_CERT
SSH_CLIENT_CERT_ID
SSH_CLIENT_CERT_PRINCIPALS
SSH_CLIENT_PUBKEY
SSH_CLIENT_PUBKEY_FINGERPRINT
Some of that information available in logs but not inside the
