SMART for SATA devices ?
I noticed that the changelog for the new kernel 2.6.9-34 on the redhat enterprise watchlist states on of the fixes as; 145061 - SMART support in SATA driver (P1) Does this mean that with that kernel we should be able to interrogate SATA drives now ? Cheers, Bards.

IPtraf not looking right on the console..
I have a CentOS 4 server at home where we store all our data, I wanted to get some idea of the amount of traffic going into and out of the server by protocol so I installed IPtraf.. When I run it from an ssh session it looks fine but when I run it directly on the server console its doesn't look right at all.. It doesn't seem to layout correctly.. Is there something I need to do

LVM Snapshot Create Error
Just discovered that on CentOS 4.1 when you issue the command: lvcreate -s -n temp -L2G /dev/vgname/lvname to create a snapshot, you get the error message: snapshot: Required device-mapper target(s) not detected in your kernel I've checked and recheck my spelling and tried using the device created under /dev/mapper. I've tried it on both x86_64 and on i386. Works as expected under

large disk volumes with 64bit kernel
I installed 4.4 on a machine that's got two RAID volumes, one of which is a bit over 2.1 terabytes. The installer had no problem. However, fsck does. Commenting out the volume in /etc/fstab, the machine will boot. The machine will mount the volume and use it. Everything seems fine except fsck, which seems, well, fscked. When trying to run fsck, it says: # fsck /dev/sdb1 fsck 1.35

Wondershaper stops limiting outbound traffic
I have wondershaper to limit my upload at 400kilobits (my line is 600kbps). I do a lot of torrent seeding and I dont want my pings killed when I''m uploading so I set low prority source ports as follows (by the way, I have bittornet to only use ports 6881-6910): NOPRIOPORTSRC="6881 6882 6883 6884 6885 6886 6887 6888 6889 6890 6891 6892 6893 6894 6895 6896 6897 6898 6899 6900 6901

Is this message from YUM a bad thing?
I was doing a YUM update, and it found about 70 packages to download and install. While installing, this message popped up a couple of times: /sbin/ldconfig: File /usr/lib/libk3bdevice.so.2.0.0.#prelink#.X8kEMh is empty, not checked. And then after about three or four times of saying that, the YUM update stopped without finishing. So I started it again, and it picked up where it left off, so
