OpenSSH_2.9.9p2 Configuration problem
I've recently upgraded some of my machines from an ssh1 environment to
an openssh one, and consequently, I'm now using the ssh2 protocol. I
can't seem to get it to allow remote logins without prompting for a
passphrase or password. Is this possible? I've created id_dsa and
id_rsa files etc., using ssh-keygen and have copied the public
information to the remote authorized_keys

Installing a file only if a package is available
Hi,
is there a way to make sure a file is installed only if a certain
package is installed on the client?
e.g. I want to distribute the client key for NX via puppet. However I
only want to install these files if package ''freenx'' is installed on the
client.
I tried adding ''require => package["freenx"]'' but then puppetd complains

Change in behavior from 2.5p2 to 2.9p1
Under 2.5p2, if I ssh'd back to myself I would get a prompt asking for my
passphrase, and if that was incorrect it would then ask for my password.
Assuming I had a authorized_keys file with my identity.pub in it.
Under 2.9.p1 it goes straight to enter password instead of asking for my
passphrase.
This wouldn't be a problem except that when I have "PasswordAuthentication
no" I

Running firefox on a remote host on centos-4
Back in the day (read: before the latest firefox update), I used to be
able to ssh to a remote box, run 'firefox -local', and have that box fire
up its own firefox session even if I was running firefox on the system
from I which I sshed. Those days seem to be gone. No matter what I try, if
I've got firefox running on my local desktop, the remote firefox command just
fires off

Possible issue with stdio forwarding
Greetings,
I've been doing a little testing with the stdio forwarding support added
in recent snapshots and have encountered one possible issue. First, I
should say that this feature generally seems to work. However, I haven't
been able to get it to work when connecting to a server running
SSH.COM's product.
The config file I am using is fairly simple:

passphrase for non existent key?
Hi there. I'm being asked for a passphrase for a key file that does not exist.
See debug output below. Both client and server default to SSH2. Creating a DSA key without a password and copying the public
portion to the server's authorized_keys2 allowed me to login w/o a password. I downloaded and installed the latest version of SSH
from OpenBSD CVS, and now its asking me for the

Support for here documents with sftp client in OpenSSH 2.5.1p 1-1 (RH Linux 6.2 [2.2.x kernel])
Damien,
I was going down the path of public key authentication when I encountered
problems. I've been discussing it off-line using the simple example of
creating a key pair with no passphrase for an account on "myserver", then
trying to connect to myserver using the "ssh -i id_dsa myserver" command.
It's not working, so we're debugging now (see below). If you

asking for root password
We are using rsync to pull backups created on our server.
The command below is run as a cronjob and it works great.
rsync -avu --rsh "ssh -l root" root@servername:/var/lib/mysql/backups/ /backups/mysql/
We have a new server that will replace the old server that rsync pulls backups from.
On the system that is running rsync, I switched the servername in the command above to the new

Centos7 poblems with dnssec-keygen
I am reading:
https://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Deployment_Guide-en-US/s1-bind-rndc.html
I have bind installed and default config running. I have not applied my
customizations yet. The first step I am taking is getting rndc.key
created. So reading the guide I am trying to run (while logged in as
root, and in /etc):
dnssec-keygen -a hmac-md5 -b 256 -n HOST rndc.key
The system is just

Unrelated (was RE: so-called-hang-on-exit)
"ssh -n ..." means ssh will close stdin and open /dev/null for stdin. It does not mean losing th eoutput of ssh.

X11 forwarding under Linux
Hello, I have been having issues with x11 forwarding using my
linux-mandrake based servers. I checked my XAUTHORITY variable and it was
set to ~/.Xauthority ... After reading the mail archives, I found the
/tmp/ssh* directory created during my ssh session, and did this:
export XAUTHORITY="/tmp/ssh-hzuA1805/cookies"
xeyes
...and the X11 forwarding worked!
I'm using the
