Rails, rSpec edge problems
Hi, Does the Story Runner work on edge rails? I thought that is what the example app was using but I am on the latest Rails and latest rSpec revisions and I am having problems. When I call ''render_template'' in a story I get the following: NoMethodError: undefined method `render_template'' for #<ActionController::Integration::Session:0x327d974> Do I need to

Getting Started with Story Runner
I haven''t found any How To''s to use story runner and I''m not sure how to get started. Should I be looking for resources on how to use rbehave? How do I generate my first Story? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Are you writing "imperative" or "declarative" scenarios in your stories?
Hey all, I just found Bryan Helmkamp''s (of webrat fame) slides on a presentation he did at GoRuCo 2008: http://www.brynary.com/2008/4/26/story-driven-development-slides-posted On slides 21-24 he talks about writing good stories and shows gives two examples.. the way not to do it and the way to do it. You can also see the video of the presentation at confreaks

Branching scenarios, GivenScenario and database
I''m trying to use stories to drive some high-level design. I''ve got some branching scenarios where I want to follow a scenario, to establish a base situation, and then have different scenarios which ''branch'' out from that state, possibly several levels deep. I asked a bit about this a few days ago, and David pointed out the rather undocumented GivenScenario

Plain Text Stories Chaining Scenarios
I''m writing a plain text story (testing the waters) and I have scenarios that I need to chain in my specs. Here is what I have so far: Story: User purchasing tshirts As a user I want to checkout So that I can purchase shirts Scenario: User goes to checkout with nothing in cart Given a user And user has an empty cart When user goes to checkout Then user

Reusing story snippets
I find myself doing this: Scenario "logged in user visiting the home page" do Given "A logged in user" do a_logged_in_user end When "..." Then "..." end The a_logged_in_user method is a helper method in helper.rb which sets up the state so that the user can browse the website. Later in the story of course, I can just do ''Given

get method under 1.1.4 in Stories is undefined
HI, After I upgraded to RSpec 1.1.4 (from git), my stories all failed. I was using Webrat and the first thing I noticed was the ''visits'' method was gone. I then backtracked to just using ''get'' and got the same undefined method exception. I confirmed it was still working in 1.1.3 Eventually, I got it to work doing this: in my first Given: @app =

Selenium/Watir usage along side Webrat in story testing
This is related to Selenium/Watir usage along side webrat in story testing. MHS_Testing and Rspec-ui provide some great help for testing through frameworks like Selenium/Watir. But there is something missing, Webrat has changed the landscape somewhat with Acceptance Tests/Story Driven development. Now I have a choice: 1. Tests and rails process run as one test process (Webrat) 2. Use

attachment_fu and story runner, any updates
I''m trying to write a story for a Rails app which involves using the attachment_fu plugin to upload images. After blunting my pick on this for a while, google found me this: http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/134743#600831 So it seems that there''s a hole in Rails integration testing and multipart form posting. David offered to incorporate a patch to story runner at the end of the

Stories (well, integration tests) which aren''t plain text
Hi, Having just played with getting my first plain text story working, I like how it all fits together. It worked out nicely. However, I don''t feel our project needs to have stories as plain text, in fact it''s a slight hindrance for us. Is there any sensible mechanism for doing integration testing using rspec without plain text stories? Thanks, Rob

View Specs vs. Stories
Do RSpec stories make view specs redundant? Does anybody spec their views *and* use stories, and if so how? Any views (no pun intended) appreciated. ~ Thanks Mark -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Role of stories vs specs, revisited
A couple months ago I asked how stories and specs might impact each other. [1] If you look at Dan North''s example of what''s in a story [2], and you imagine using the spec framework to drive the design, you can probably imagine a significant bit of overlap in the two. Is that a bad thing? I''m not sure. It has made me a bit uncomfortable though, and I''ve

Composed Stories/Scenarios
In using stories, I find myself wanting to build scenarios on top of each other, For example I want something like Scenario: The user logs on Given a And b When c And d Then e And f Scenario: The user changes his password Given the user logs on And g Then h In other words, I''d like to write the second scenario starting with the ''state'' produced by

simple story, extract link
hi, I just started fooling around with story runner, thought I''d start with a dead simple scenario: The first thing I do when describing a site to someone is go to the home page, and begin exploring public pages from there. So, that seems like a good first story to spec out. And I''d really like to extract the actual link from the rendered page (rather than just

Failing rspec story not causing a CruiseControl.rb build to fail?
We''ve just added rspec stories to our CruiseControl.rb build. When there''s a failing scenario we see the failure in the log output, but it doesn''t cause the CruiseControl build to fail. We''ve also just upgraded to the latest rspec version, 1.1.4, which fixes rspec bug 228, but the CC.rb build is still passing. Has anyone got failing rspec stories making

RailsStory runner - empty response
I generated a new rails app then installed rspec and rspec_on_rails from trunk. I then created a sample story: require File.dirname(__FILE__) + "/helper" Story "View Home Page", %{ As a user I want to view my home page So that I can get a birds eye view of the system }, :type => RailsStory do Scenario "Publisher with no videos" do When

I''m finding that I''m writing sets of very similar scenarios to check access permissions for each of my actions. rails story runner returning a nil response code
Has anyone noticed any problems with the Rails story runner returning a response code of "0" when doing get/post/etc methods? I just grabbed the latest rails/rspec and just started noticing this problem, http://pastie.caboo.se/117497 Regular controller specs pass as expected. -- Josh Knowles phone: 509-979-1593 email: joshknowles at gmail.com web: http://joshknowles.com
