weird XFS problem
Hello all, I have a CentOS 5.7 machine hosting a 16 TB XFS partition used to house backups. The backups are run via rsync/rsnapshot and are large in terms of the number of files: over 10 million each. Now the machine is not particularly powerful: it is 64-bit machine, dual core CPU, 3 GB RAM. So perhaps this is a factor in why I am having the following problem: once in awhile that XFS partition

3ware 9650 issues
I've been having no end of issues with a 3ware 9650SE-24M8 in a server that's coming on a year old. I've got 24 WDC WD5001ABYS drives (500GB) hooked to it, running as a single RAID6 w/ a hot spare. These issues boil down to the card periodically throwing errors like the following: sd 1:0:0:0: WARNING: (0x06:0x002C): Command (0x8a) timed out, resetting card. Usually when this

[PATCH 00/24] block, scsi: final compat_ioctl cleanup
Hi Jens, James and Martin, This series concludes the work I did for linux-5.5 on the compat_ioctl() cleanup, killing off fs/compat_ioctl.c and block/compat_ioctl.c by moving everything into drivers. Overall this would be a reduction both in complexity and line count, but as I'm also adding documentation the overall number of lines increases in the end. My plan was originally to keep the

Problems booting 2.6.7 Dom0 with 3ware Controllers
I tried to install and boot a 2.6.7 Dom0 xenLinux Kernel on an SMP (Dual-Xeon) Machine with 2 3-ware Controllers installed (1 4-channel Controler and 1 8-channel Controler, both Parallel ATA) and no other HDs present (except the ones connected to the 3ware controlers, of course). First of all I got a compilation error after activating the SMP option in the kernel config. After deactivating the

passthrough PCI SCSI device
I have a sles10sp3 vm that I''m trying to passthrough a scsi card, which has a DLT tape drive attached. Anyone doing anything similar? When I passthrough the scsi card (forced to do both ports), the vm dies when it loads, I think during udev. I''m viewing the vm through virt-manager, so I can''t scroll up and see what everything says. Is there a way to get the text xm

state of ide raid
Hello, While shopping for another 3Ware card, I found that this market has gotten much larger since I bought my 6500. So I started looking at the various cards while browsing the hardware notes for FreeBSD 4.8 and 5.1. So I'm wondering if anyone can provide some insight here. -3Ware has a whole new series of cards. The twe(4) manpage states that only 5xxx and 6xxx series cards are

Help with disk server stability issues
Hi All, I am looking for advice on how to cure a constantly-crashing NFS server which crashes every few hours, or at least, every few days. The kernel log file (below) points toward NFS as a likely cause. The system disk is a 3ware 8000 series RAID1 mirror. The data disk is using a 3Ware 9000 controller to produce two RAID1 devices; these are then striped (RAID0) in software to form a RAID 10

problem with 5.3 upgrade or just bad timing?
I've been experiencing delays access data off my file server since I upgraded to 5.3... either I hosed something, have bad hardware or very unlikely, found a bug. When reading or writing data, the stream to the hdd's stops every 5-10 min and %iowait goes through the roof. I checked the logs and they are filled with this diagnostic data that I can't readily decipher. my setup

3Ware 9650SE and XFS problems under Centos 5.3
Hello all, Came across my first real "problem" in all the years I've been using Linux today and I'm stumped for an answer. I've recently built a back-up server on top of Centos 5.3 using a 3Ware 9650SE 4 port SATA card and 4 x 1.5TB drives in a RAID 5 array. I went for the 3Ware card as it has driver support already so any kernel updates won't require me to rebuild the

How to get 3Ware 9500S controller card working in CentOS 3.1?
My goal is to be able to install to the drive array on the 3Ware controller card. 3Ware does provide a RH WS 3 driver that I've tried to use; however, the RH Enterprise 3 WS driver doesn't work since that kernel is older than the CentOS-3.1 install kernel. I'm trying to create a centOS-3.1 installation driver disk for the 3ware 9500S card; however, I'm not having much luck.

[PATCH 15/24] compat_ioctl: scsi: move ioctl handling into drivers
Each driver calling scsi_ioctl() gets an equivalent compat_ioctl() handler that implements the same commands by calling scsi_compat_ioctl(). The scsi_cmd_ioctl() and scsi_cmd_blk_ioctl() functions are compatible at this point, so any driver that calls those can do so for both native and compat mode, with the argument passed through compat_ptr(). With this, we can remove the entries from
