new home for the rspec website
Hi all,
We''ve moved the rspec website to http://rspec.info. We want
http://rspec.org, of course, but someone is squatting on and has yet
to respond to my email :(
The 1.1.0 docs are there. The 1.0.8 docs are still at
http://rspec.rubyforge.org for the time being. We''ll be archiving them
at the new site soon.
This new site is hosted on our shiny new sponsored slice at Engine

Specifing methods in a steps_for block
Hey list,
I''m refactoring some much-used functionality into a common_steps step
group. Methods like this are in there:
steps_for :common do
Given "a number of existing $types?" do |type|
@initial_item_count = type.singularize.classify.constantize.count
end
When "the user adds an invalid $type" do |type|

Any news on the rSpec books?
I admit it, when it comes to rSpec, I''m lazy. I''ve made a few feeble
attempts to use it, but for once I''m waiting for a book-length
treatment. At least two books were announced, I think. Can anyone in
the know please report on their progress?
Thanks

RSpec --format --html:/path/to/file.html
Greetings everyone. I''m learning RSpec and am pretty fresh to Ruby/Rails,
but am so excited I can''t help jumping in. I''m running before I can walk
here. :-)
Yesterday I tried outputting test results to HTML instead of colorized
plain text. It looked like there were some entries in the change log for
the 1.0.5 release allowing RSpec to do what I wanted.
I tried

Formatting runner output as HTML
I found documentation on Runner & calling Spec on the command line. I''m
able to run it on multiple models or a single one and format the output as
HTML now. Previously I used the Rake task expecting it to behave the same
way passing --format html:path/to/file.html or setting it somehow in
spec.opts. But I''m not quite there yet. Should the Rake task work the same
way or is

broken URL on rspec.info
Hey folks. I was looking for the mailing list archive up on rspec.info.
I clicked on the "community" link and received the URL
"http://ey01-s00414/community/". This isn''t correct, obviously. The hint
shows it as, "http://rspec.info/community".
Where is the mailing list archive? How far back does it go? I''d really
like to read back through it

How-to spec this helper method?...
Hey gang,
I have this dead-simple method defined in a helper:
def add_category_link(name)
link_to_function name do |page|
page.insert_html :bottom, :categories, :partial =>
''category'', :object => Category.new
end
end
Where, and mostly how, would I spec this? I haven''t been able to find
how to stub the rjs in a helper spec, so

I can''t make RSpec 1.0.8 run in Rails 1.2.3
I followed the directions on the site:
ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/CURRENT/rspec
ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/REL_1_0_8/rspec_on_rails
ruby script/generate rspec
And apparently everything was ok. But when I do a "rake spec" on the app folder none of the Rails models are visible. Here is the error:

FW: FW: Specifying spec and output format inline?
One more try?
I just want the script to save the rspec output to an html file when the
script is run. In this case, the script will be run from SciTE using
F5, rather than by command line.
Is there a way to specify this within the ruby script?

BDDish rspecish question
Hey list,
This is a kinda quirky question for this list, but I do think it
belongs here. I''m currently writing an app with users with different
roles. Roles are sequentially so to speak, so role 2 can do everything
role 1 can, and so on.
If I truly test my whole app, I should test all behaviour for each
role, I guess. I could solve that by doing some clever shared steps

Rspec compatibility issue
I''m trying to get Rspec working. Using the installing 1.0.7 & the Rails
plugin, I tried one of the examples on Rspec''s website and produced the
following error:

Your RSpec on Rails plugin is incompatible with your installed RSpec.
RSpec : 1.0.7 (r2332)
RSpec on Rails : r2331

Using aspects to apply authentication
Greeting. I was wondering if anyone is using AOP (Aspect Oriented
Programming) to ensure login and authentication before allowing someone
access to controllers and models.
I found two versions of RCR 321 that discuss cut-based AOP, but as far
as I can tell there isn''t an implementation of the RCR as an AOP
framework.
Additionally, I tried to dig up information on Aspect4r and

RSpec for dummies screencast?
Does anyone know of any RSpec screencasts for dummies, like me :)
I have a Java background, but I have never written a java test in my
life. I''ve never learned about TDD or BDD so I''m totally blank on
everything that has anything to do with testing and stuff.
Where should I start?!? ;)

We are wondering how you''d validate a credit card number or a SSN

Would it be through Rails'' AJAX support?

Observers?
Hello all!
I''m having an issue with Observers, and I''m hoping someone knows the
answer.
Here is the definition:
app/models/vehicle_observer.rb
> class VehicleObserver < ActiveRecord::Observer
> def after_save(vehicle)
> breakpoint
> if vehicle.has_new_mil_indication?
> UserMailer.deliver_mil_notice(vehicle)

Hi,
Is there a hook or a method to execute some code after a whole feature

Webistrano on Windows
Greetings. I just read a note on Webistrano''s website about Webistrano
not running on Windows.
Does anyone know if there''s a patch to get it running? I''d like to use
this tool, but I''m using Windows XP for the time being and need to
deploy from there.
When I tried running Webistrano for the first time last night it threw

Autotest''ing specs on non-rails app
I''m having trouble using autotest with rspec on a non-rails project.
my Rspec gem is version 1.0.8, ZenTest is 3.6.2
project structure
$ ls *
lib:
parser.rb
spec:
parser_spec.rb
autotest finds and runs the spec, but it won''t detect changes to lib/parser.rb
I know it''s something stupid, but...
help?
