A short netiquette request: trimming irrelevant material
Hi folks, I''ve noticed in recent times on the list that we seem to be getting a low signal-to-noise ratio with a lot of posts (particularly those where people include their configuration). Once you have posted the appropriate information once, there is no need to keep quoting it unless it is central to the discussion. Trimming irrelevant material makes it easy for people who have been

create a factor variable from two numeric variables when order is irrelevant
Hi all, I have two numeric variables that form combinations in a matched sample. Let's say I have five levels of x and y. What I am seeking to create is a factor variable that ignores the order of x and y, i.e., the factor should indicate x=1, y=5, as the same factor as x=5, y=1. Obviously, this becomes increasingly cumbersome to do by hand as the number of levels increases. f<-1:5

Irrelevant information filling logs
Hi, I have a "Ubuntu10.04 + dovecot-2.0.13" configuration in my server. My mailbox server is shared by ~ 10k domains. It works fine with ~50k accounts. There is a lot of logs of "quota exceeded" like this: Oct 10 13:00:56 mailboxserver5 dovecot: lmtp(29105, user at mailboxserver5): Error: ifcIN1NxdVCxcQAAMBx7mQ: sieve: msgid=unspecified: failed to store into mailbox

irrelevant warning message
Context: R version 2.7.1 (2008-06-23) I don't know when this was upgraded in the department, I just ran into the aberrent behavior today. Problem: Our group BY CHOICE does not change character variables into factors by default. I can get into a long arguement as to why later, and will give one example of why below. The default behavior of S, Splus and R has been to create
