snmp on centos 3.x x86_64
I'm trying to use opennms to collect data from some CentOS3.x x86_64
boxes but I am getting an error "Integer too large: cannot decode"
that http://bugzilla.opennms.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1316
says is a bug in net-snmp that was fixed in a later version. However,
when I try to build the 5.4.1 src.rpm from sourceforge I get

xeyes kills freenx session
I was trying an assortment of things to get a remote X session working
(where I had forgotten to install the xauth package...) and noticed
that running xeyes kills my freenx session. This happened whether in
the NX/freenx session itself or when run on a remote machine via 'ssh
-Y', started from a window in a freenx session. Is that a known
problem or do I have something set up wrong?

Forcing CentOS to load Ethernet Card
Hi All,
I changed ethernet card, and chose to retain the config for the previous
one, and now when booting, get a mac address is different igonoring, msg
or something to that effect, and upon booted, doing a ifconfig shows
nothing for the new card. What cmd do I issue, to make the OS see the
new card? Cheers.

5.0 -> 5.1
Hi folks,
I have a production server that's currently running 5.0 with all
updates. What's the easiest, or perhaps best way to upgrade it to 5.1,
with minimal down time? The downtime is critical, so I need to have it
be a short as possible. I can live with an hour or two, but larger is
going to be a pain.
Suggestions?

Backing up CentOS
Can anyone suggest a good open source/free backup software that works on
CentOS? I was reading through the manuals on how to back things up and it
said do 1 of 2 things. Buy a 3rd party software packages or make one from
source. Well I have no clue how to do the 2nd option and I don't want to
spend any money so I figured I would as you gurus. BTW I am newb so easier
the software the better.

Kickstart, package always selected
I'm trying to kickstart a Centos 4.1 system with the minimum set of
packages. I have no use for ypbind so I'm trying to prevent from
being installed, but kickstart/anaconda always insist on its
installation (complaining that the package is missing). This is the
%packages section of my ks file so far:

CentOS-4.3 and PHP PostgreSQL extension.
I need to enable pg support on one of my CentOS servers. I know nothing about
PHP but DRUPAL requires a DB backend and we have standardized on pg rather
than mysql. The PHP.net page devoted to the subject of pg says that to enable
pg support PHP must be built with the flag "--with-pgsql[=DIR]" and that the
required support extension must be loaded via the /etc/php.ini file with the

Yum question - RHEL4
Hi
this is technically a RHEL4 question but i hope it can be answered here...
Does RHEL4 do yum OK ? I kix a lot of boxes and it would be great to run
the update after the build automajically rather than running through the
up2date registration and using that method. I would also rather not pay
lots for satellite server.
If i setup my own RHEL repo can i use yum against this? Or any other

Using yum variable $releasever reports 1
Hi,
I have an old server that originally was a RedHat 8 server. Then I
upgraded to RedHat 9, then Tao Linux 1 and last to CentOS 3 when tao was
discontinued. Yes I know that this was probably not the smartest thing in
the world but now this is the case and I don't want to reinstall it.
Now the question. In yum.conf I have distroverpkg=redhat-release and cat
/etc/redhat-release gives:

yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
Hi all,
I have a question related to yum groupinstall.
I just tried a:
yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
I expected that I would end up with a MySQL Database server,
but it installed a bunch of .rpms *except* mysql-server. No
big deal, I'm just curious if it was intended this way or not,
that's all.
Thank you and,
Have a nice evening everyone,
