Puppetmaster setup with separate CA server configuration help
Hi All,
I am setting up puppetmaster with nginx and passenger and separating
the Puppetmaster primary CA server. I have 3 host
loadbalancer01 - Nginx doing LB on IP address and also running
puppetmaster with passenger under 127.0.0.1 (port 8140).

compress and max upload size?
I am using mongrel_cluster with mod_proxy_balancer and would like to
enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput) and limit file
size upload. I configured mod_deflate and LimitRequestSize in Apache,
but in my trials looks like the proxied calls bypass those directives
(the conf goes below).
Is there a way to get this?

Number of worker processes on hyperthreaded processor
Good morning,
The tuning page says worker_processes should be at least the number of CPU cores on a dedicated server. In the case of hyper-threading, should this be the number of cores or the number of threads?
For example the Intel Core i7-2600 Quadcore[1] has 4 cores and 8 threads. Would I start my worker_processes at 4 or 8?
Finally, would the same apply to Nginx worker processes?

Request queue length
Is there a way to get the number of requests that are currently awaiting
to be executed by my rails app by unicorn?
Or there is no queue in unicorn and I should look for this information
somewhere in nginx or other front-end server?
Couldn''t find much information about this topic, so decided to ask here
first.

optimize la value of pool in database.yml
Hi,
I would like to understand how to calculate optimal value for "pool"
parameter in database.yml
I''m using rails 3, ruby 2, postgres, elasticsearch, unicorn, nginx
My server : 12 coeurs 24 threads ( I dont know if it is necessary for
define pool value)
unicorn : worker_processes 24
I have around 1500 pages requested per minutes, and around 200ms per request
Is it also

X-Forwarded-Proto / X_FORWARDED_PROTO
Eric,
think I came across an issue with the parser in unicorn, with a request
(due to 2 layers of nginx proxying) coming across with both a
X_FORWARDED_PROTO and a X-Forwarded-Proto header. From the socket (in
HttpRequest) - we get:
X_FORWARDED_PROTO: http
X-Forwarded-Proto: https
which is parsed to
HTTP_X_FORWARDED_PROTO"=>"http,https
There was a passenger ticket that

Nginx, Mongrel, Proxy and REMOTE_ADDR
I''m using a cluster of mongrels behind an apache 1.3 proxy pass. I''ve
been passing the request to pen, which in turn balances the cluster of
mongrels. Now, I''d like to be able to use a different server to send
the static files created by the rails application, so I tried to
replace pen with nginx. Everything seems to work fine except the
environment variable REMOTE_ADDR.

preload_app = true causing - ActiveModel::MissingAttributeError: missing attribute: some_attr
Greetings,
I''m getting this - ActiveModel::MissingAttributeError: missing
attribute: some_attr - on a random basis under a unicorn server,
running rails 3.2 and ruby 1.9.3
As the case of the last poster in the following thread -
https://github.com/rails/rails/issues/1906 - I too am able to resolve
this issue by settingpreload_app to false.
However, this is not the behaviour I want to

[PATCH] rework master-to-worker signaling to use a pipe
Signaling using normal kill(2) is preserved, but the master now
prefers to signal workers using a pipe rather than kill(2).
Non-graceful signals (:TERM/:KILL) are still sent using kill(2),
as they ask for immediate shutdown.
This change is necessary to avoid triggering the ubf (unblocking
function) for rb_thread_call_without_gvl (and similar) functions
extensions. Most notably, this fixes

Unicorn doesn't reload the app after the HUP signal
Hi folks, I''ve experimented a problem while deploying my app, I''ve
sent the HUP signal to the master process, I''ve checked everything is
ok: new master and workers are spawned and the old ones are
killed(I''ve checked the PIDs), but the new code deployed isn''t
reflected in the living site, so I''ve to stop and start again unicorn

Multiple rack applications on the same server with unicorn
If I''m running two rails apps on the same server using Unicorn, I have
to run two instances of Unicorn, right?
If so, then here''s a place where passenger might win in terms of
memory use, as the rails code will be loaded into memory twice, right?
I''m still probably going with Unicorn, but just exploring this first.
Thanks,
John

A barrage of unexplained timeouts
We''ve been running unicorn-3.6.2 on REE 1.8.7 2011.12 in production for quite some time and we use monit to monitor each unicorn worker. Occasionally, I''ll get a notification that a worker has timed-out and has been re-spawned. In all these cases, when I look at the rails logs, I can see the last request that the worker handled, and they all have appeared to complete

Unicorn and streaming in Rails 3.1
Streaming works with Unicorn + Apache. Both with and without deflating.
My understanding is that Unicorn + Apache is not a good combination
though because Apache does not buffer, and thus Unicorn has no fast
client in front. (I don''t know which is the ultimate technical reason
Unicorn puts such an emphasis on fast clients, but will do some
research about it.)

nginx + unicorn deployment survey
Hello all, I''m wondering if you deploy nginx:
1) on the same machine that runs unicorn (exclusively proxying to that)
2) on a different machine that doesn''t run unicorn
3) both, nginx could forward to either to localhost
or another host on the same LAN
And of course, the reason(s) you chose what you chose. I''m inclined
to believe many folks are on 1) simply
