Obtaining variable's names from a list of variables
Say I have a list of variables,
listVar <- list(age,sex)
I am looking for a way to either
1- create a vector c("age","sex") from it, or
2- get the names one by one in a for loop such as these
a) for (i in 1:length(listVar)) rownames(result)[i] <- ???
b) for(i in listVar) print (variable's name)
Any help much appreciated.

strftime - Dates from Excel files
Hi
I have many excel files were the Date field was not declared as date,
so the dates look like this: 1/2/1978
I know that the format is day/month/year
How can I make R change this to Date format?
If I use strftime, I get wrong dates:
dataset=c("1/2/1978")
strftime(dataset,"%d/%m/%Y")
"19/02/0001"
Thanks in advance.

HIRHAM netcdf files
Can someone help me out with a "small" problem?
I've started using netcdf files recently, and I want to extract the grid id
and also the coordinates from a HIRHAM netcdf file.
I know how to extract a slice of dataset both in space and in time and I
also know the area that this file should cover, however I have no idea
regarding the reference for both LAT/LON and RLAT/RLON.

Failing build is restarted again and again (manual request + Win32)
Dear all,
I am a recent user of this great tool for rails development and I have an issue with version 1.3.0. Sorry if I duplicate the question but I have been over the whole mailing list archives and could not find any answer.
I have set up cruisecontrolrb on my home server (which runs WinXP, sorry, but it is better for the girlfriend to use than some linux distrib which I use on my laptop)

how to construct tree under R
Hello.
I have a hudge problem, don't know how to deal with it...
I'm supposed to implement a tree structure in R, without using
rpart library...
I don't have any clue about appropriate approach...
Anyway, I can't use pointers under R...so how to to it?
lists, vectors...
Anyway, does anybody knows how the regression tree in rpart was
implemented...
Someone please help!
Thanks,
ana

Sendmail Configuration Problem - 550 5.1.1 - User unknown Problem
Hi,
I'm having this Sendmail configuration problem and stuck. I've been doing googling/reading posts and none of the solutions matched my problem.
I'm doing some testing, and have been getting this 550 5.1.1 ....User unknown error when I send the email to my company's email address. When I send it to an external email address, such as yahoo, the message delivered successfully.

zero variance in part of a glm (PR#11355)
In this real example (below), all four of the replicates in one
treatment combination had zero failures, and this produced a very high
standard error in the summary.lm.
=20
Just adding one failure to one of the replicates produced a well-behaved
standard error.
=20
I don't know if this is a bug, but it is certainly hard for users to
understand.

I would value your comments=20

Thanks

Hi folks,
Moving the discussion to llvm.dev.
None of the changes we talked earlier help.
Find attached the C source code that you can use to reproduce the issue.
