Multiple Patitions with with mdbox
Having > 10 TByte mailstore filesystem-checks takes too much time.
At the moment we have four different partitions, but I don't like to set
symlinks or LDAP-flags to sort customers and their domains to there
individual mount-point. I'd like to work with mdbox:/mail/%d/%n to calculate
the path automatically.
How do you handle >> 10 TB mailstore?

doveadm-server hangs with 100% cpu usage
we have some replication issues. From time to time a doveadm-server
process takes 100% cpu in the state recv_mailbox_tree_deletes on the
replica. The process runs forever until it is manually killed. Strace on
this process doesn't show anything.
Sometimes we have several doveadm-server processes in this state, all
for the same account, all with 100% CPU Load.
The logfile on the master says:

dsync can't sync mbox2mdbox two times
Hi,
I have a server with Dovecot 2.1.x and I'm trying to convert
mbox-storages to mdbox-storages.

# OS: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 x86_64 Debian 6.0.7
mail_location = mbox:~/mail
During the first run everything's okay, but if I run the migration a
second time, the later migration is broken:

mdbox: more then one altstorage
The mdbox-format with the altstorage-feature is quite nice and important.
But we're having much more then >> 30 TB of maildata and doing an fsck
on huge partitions takes too much (down-) time for our mailsystem.
It would be much easier, if Dovecot would be able to use at least THREE
storage-paths for his m-Files (and not just TWO like now).
Having an altstorage1 and altstorage2, we

Dovecot "sleep" for short snapshots
Making consistent backups from Dovecot with mdbox requires a snapshoted
filesystem with (at least) a short Downtime for Dovecot.
I'd like to avoid killing several thenthousand IMAP-sessions for 60
seconds. Users don't like that... And the admin dislakes that too...
What about a "short sleep" mechanism for Dovecot, where all writes are
finished and new writes are easily delayed?

crash on shared folders if remote user has empty $home
Hi,
in seldom cirumstances it's possible that the imap-process is crashing
without write something usefule into the logfile.
a) User foo exists, is happy and everything's alright
b) He had a shared folder given from bar
c) In our setup we have mailforwarding adresses without a valid $home in
LDAP
c) if user bar is changed from a user with into a mailforwarding adress,

question on "doveadm user" and pass/userdb
Hi,
I'm about getting to know dovecot in details, I am about the command
"doveadm user". The man page shows this example:
userdb: jane
uid : 8001
gid : 8001
home : /home/jane
mail : sdbox:~/sdbox
plugins : sieve
quota_rule: *:storage=150M
It seems to be nice, however I never got this only:
~# doveadm

I'm trying to make pfSense talk to Samba AD LDAP through "bind

Dovecot and Mail.app
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I'm trying to convert a courier-imap installation over to using
Dovecot, but I'm having some problems with Mail.app on OS X. FTR, we
use both Mail.app and Thunderbird. Note that in the Mail.app
preferences, I have a blank IMAP Path Prefix. I'm using Dovecot
1.0_rc15 on Gentoo, and Mail.app from OS X 10.4.8, Thunderbird 1.5.0.9.

Several issues with 1.0-stable
All,
We have Dovecot 1.0-stable deployed in our 3000 users environment as of
last weekend. Up untill now, I have 3 issues:
- When stopping Dovecot with: kill -TERM `cat /var/run/dovecot/master.pid`,
the 'dovecot' process itself dies, the 'imap-login' processes die, but the
'imap'
processes (there are a lot of them) don't die, but become a zombie. I

Switch from courier to dovecot
I have an courier IMAP server running. To get sib dirs working I had to
rename them all to begin with a period ".".
e.g
Maildir
Maildir/{cur,new,tmp}
Maildir/.account1/{cur,new,tmp}
Maildir/.account2/{cur,new,tmp}
Maildir/.account3/{cur,new,tmp}
etc
If I uninstall Courier and install dovecot, will these "period" dirs be
seen by default?
I am fairly new to this and

How to delete "proxy" attribute in passdb lookup?
Hi,
I have a complicated SQL backend with stored procedures to generate
passdb/userdb queries. This result have the proxy-attribute set and it's
very complicated to change that procedures.
On one system I tried to override/delete the proxy attribute:
passdb {
driver = sql
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf.ext
override_fields = proxy=n
}
Looks like that doesn't work.

doveadm penalty: who is 0.0.0.0?
Using doveadm penalty I just noticed a penalty for 0.0.0.0.
Is this Postfix querying the auth-socket for his SASL-requests?
I tried adding 0.0.0.0 to login_trusted_networks, but that doesn't help.
