4 or 5 for VMware server?
I am soon going to be setting up a box to run VMware server but have to
make the choice between Centos 4.x or 5.x.. I have tested both and
VMware installs in both..
So are there any pros or cons to either version or does it make no
difference at all?

Asterisk and VMWare
Hi,
There is any experience using Asterisk with VMWare?
I think about installing a virtual linux box over VMWare and then Asterisk
over it.
Thanks,

VMWare Sandbox
I need to experiment with ldap for a site I manage, and wondered if
vmware would be a good way to go for some testing.
My current server is RHEL3, which is getting dated, and I think that I
should refresh this server entirely in the move to ldap.
We need to have an ldap server for publishing email addresses for a
VPN for a nursing home that the upstream can harvest and we can browse
to send

Does anyone use VMWare 4.5.2 on CentOS 4?
I'm trying to use my copy and whenever I reboot I have to reconfigure
everything again using vmware-config.pl. Any idea why I might have to do
this? Is there something about the way services are setup under CentOS 4
or something?

Unstable VMware 1.0.5 host after 4.7 upgrade
After upgrading to 4.7 x86_64 on all our boxes (from 4.6), we have 3
VMware Server 1.0.5 hosts that are unstable. Sometimes they
spontaneously reboot, other times they freeze and require a hard
reset. Under 4.6, they were rock solid.
Failures tend to be associated with a guest start-up event, but are
often at random times as well. There is no useful evidence in either
the vmware or messages log

libvirt and VMWare Workstation Shared Server mode (of GSX history)
Hi everyone,
I searched previous postings and I couldn't find a definitive answer on
this..
I run a small lab of RHEL/Centos Based servers on which there's VMWare
Workstation running on a non-standard port but still manageable by tools
like VMrun (and the Fusion of Workstation GUI, of course).
I'm trying to use virsh with this setup and getting the following error

Anyone running giFTui successfully on CentOS?
I've been hunting this down on the internet, but haven't had any
success, so I'm going to ask here. Does anyone on this list know
anything about giFTui?
I've tried running it, but get this error:
giftui: error while loading shared libraries: liblinc.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
I can not determine how to get this shared library on my system.

I am trying to migrate one of my systems to a VMware virtual machine..
The PC is an IDE drive using LVM and the virtual machine is a SCSI drive
using ordinary partitions..
Basically I rsynced the entire filesystem from the physical to the
virtual machine and that seemed to work just fine.. I installed grub
onto the drive in the virtual machine and its booting fine..

Bitrot and panics
IIRC, uncorrectable bitrot even in a nonessential file detected by ZFS used to cause a kernel panic.
Bug ID 4924238 was closed with the claim that bitrot-induced panics is not a bug, but the description did mention an open bug ID 4879357, which suggests that it''s considered a bug after all.
Can somebody clarify the intended behavior? For example, if I''m running Solaris in a VM,

apple to Intel
I am wondering what the list's opinion is on the Apple to Intel
switch. This is going to put a slick desktop that runs on top of
BSD directly into the mainstream. What does this hold for Linux
in general, Linux on the desktop..and microsoft.

SATA RAID Cards
Hi,
Which SATA RAID cards work natively on Centos 4.x??
I have heard that the only one supported is the 3ware cards but not sure
if that requires a driver to be added or if it just works out the box..
Also would like to know of alternatives..
Thanks..

Deleting contents of /tmp on shutdown
I use to have a line of code in /etc/init.d/syslog (I think this was the
file) to delete the contents of my /tmp directory on shutdown. It originally
came from fedora. I have searched for it but can't find it again.
Anyone happen to have it?
