Cypress Semiconductor USB to serial
My UPS has a usb interface with USB-to-Serial chip. But ucycom driver doesn't recognize it. uhid driver does, but it doesn't help me, I need a virtual com port. (output below is without uhid loaded) What can I do to get it working? udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_665_5161_noserial' freebsd.device_file = '/dev/ugen1' (string) freebsd.driver =

finite difference scheme for 2D differential equations
Hello everyone, I am trying to solve 2D differential equations using finite difference scheme in R. I have been able to work with the equations with only one spatial dimensions but I want to extend it to the two dimensional problem. For example i can simulate one dimensional diffusion using a code like the following. But I want to write a similar code for, say, a two dimensional diffusion

Difficulty in writing R code for one pool dynamic model
Hi everyone, I was trying to mode the following exercise using R. The question: Set up a one pool model using numericintegration. The model will run from time 1 to time 30 using a time step of 1.The pool (A) will be fed by flux "inA" at a rate of 5 units per hour anddrained by flux "outA" at a rate of 20% per hour. At time 0, A has 5units. At time 30, what is the pool size of

CentOS 6 : Tip for significantly increasing battery life / reducing power consumption (Thinkpad X220 Tablet)
Hello, I was not happy with the power consumption of CentOS 6 x86_64 on a new Lenovo Thinkpad x220 Tablet and I worked on reducing it. I just wanted to share with the list one of the changes which gave me the most significant improvement. As per http://www.williambrownstreet.net/blog/?p=387, add the following kernel arguments to the GRUB boot configuration: pcie_aspm=force

ippon smart power pro 1000
Hi! I'm having problems connecting Ippon Smart power pro 1000 UPS to nut via usb under FreeBSD 7-stable The UPS uses megatec protocol and works fine via RS232 (UPS has RS232 and USB connectors) When I connect USB /dev/uhid0 is created. Tried port=/dev/uhid0 - doesn't work. Kernel rebuild w/o option uhid. On connect I get 2 devices /dev/ugen1, /dev/ugen1.1. Tried both of them.

Contour plot overlayed with line plot
I apologize for what may be a newbie question: I have two sets of data, one is X,Y,Z data that I'd like to make a contour plot of (Z defining the contours), and a second set of X,Y data (Y as a function of X) which I would like made into a line plot OVERLAYED on the contour plot (X and Y from both plots are in the same units and will have overlapping values). Any suggestions on how to do this

Error: in routine alloca() there is a stack overflow: thread 0, max 535822282KB, used 0KB, request 24B
Dear Colleagues: Through your help an R related installation issue was resolved, but I now have the following usage issue. On any "get.var.ncdf" usage I am seeing: Error: in routine alloca() there is a stack overflow: thread 0, max 535822282KB, used 0KB, request 24B The same error is posted on a file as small as 50MB and as large as 500GB, with ulimit set to unlimited. Creating Movies with R
Dear All, I'd like to know if it is possible to create animations with R. To be specific, I attach a code I am using for my research to plot some analytical results in 3D using the lattice package. It is not necessary to go through the code. Simply, it plots some 3D density profiles at two different times selected by the user. I wonder if it is possible to use the data generated for different

"Rotated Lat-Lon" projection in mapproj
Hi, I'm trying to plot a field obtained from the atmospheric model WRF-NMM which uses a "Rotated Lat-Lon? map projection. The WRF documentation mentions that: ? Rotates the earth's lat/lon grid such that the intersection of the equator and prime meridian is at the center of the model domain. ? Within the rotated framework the grid spacing is constant, but in an earth-relative

Paint chanegs block dbus and fuse plugins
I was writing a simple plugin a while ago which just sets the paint values on inactive windows. The plugin is very simple and the main part is below. When I load this plugin it blocks dbus and fuse plugins so that they only reply to requests when the active window changes. Is there anything obvious here that would cause that? static Bool inactivePaintWindow (CompWindow *w, const

[PATCH] Rendering: swap buffers and copy only needed parts
Hi, I've been experiencing serious tearing in compiz when screen is painted only partly. Either "Sync To Vblank" option in compiz doesn't work or copying repainted parts from backbuffer to frontbuffer is too slow. And since many people rely on driver's implementation of Sync to Vblank, it would be optimal to always use glXSwapBuffers. This can be accomplished via keeping

Halflife / Counterstrike (using Steam) does not work.
Hi, I'm using Gentoo Linux and Wine 0.9.1. I had no problem to install Steam, but Halflife and it's Mods like CS doesn't work. After starting the game through Steam, the background image appears, but there are no menu entrys and the App didn't reponse anymore. If I minimize CS and maximize it again, the background didn't get repainted. When having virtual desktop disabled

ggplot2 - extracting values of smooth
Suppose that I'm working on Hadley's diamond dataset and I want to review the relationship between price, colour and carat. I might run the following: library(ggplot2) #plot scatter and add some hex binning q<-qplot(carat,price,data=diamonds, geom=c("hex"), main="Variability of Diamond Prices by Carat and Colour") #facet to get one scatter for

ggplot with geom_tile
Dear R-users, I am trying to make a plot with ggplot-geom_tile(), but cannot remove some unwanted (white) lines through my plot. Below a reproducible example: ##### library(ggplot2) tot=as.data.frame(rep(seq(-50,50,5),each=21)) names(tot)="precip" temp=rep(seq(-5,5,0.5),21) tot$temp=temp disc=array(dim=c(21,21)) for(i in 1:21){ for(y in 1:21){ temp<-

plot 3d info in 2d
Hi Listers, Is it possible to produce an ordination plot in 2d, where bubbles represent the location of sites (this part is easy enough) and the size of the bubbles is proportional to the sites location in 3d space (I am stuck on this option). So sites that are very near the 2d plane of the xy axes would be larger while sites that are actually further away in 3 d space would be proportionally

ddply from plyr package - any alternatives?
Hello everyone, I was asked to repost this again, sorry for any inconvenience. I'm looking replacement for ddply function from plyr package. Function allows to apply function by category stored in any column/columns. Regular loops or lapplys slow down greatly because my unique combination count exceeds 9000. Is there any available solution which allow me to apply function by category?

Popup dialogs
Howdy, Prior to the major X11 changes of June, popup dialogs were nice and fast (as they should be). Since the X11 changes, the popup dialogs are very slow; 1-2 seconds to destroy one and pop up another on a 700MHz Athlon. Actually, all window creation is much slower, but I really notice it on the popup dialogs (because I use them a lot). Once the windows are open, speed seems to be quite

overlay multiple time series on one plot
Hello, I have four different time series from the same time period within a year (February through August) but they are from different years. I can not figure out how to plot them all (so they will be overlayed instead of plotted on after another) on the same graph with the x-axis corresponding to the month/day instead of year/month/day. Thank you. Max

overlaying a contour line in a levelplot
Hello there, I am creating a series of images using levelplot but I also want to overlay a contour for a particular value as reference. Here is the levelplot command for the image: print(levelplot(d~x+y,data=t,cuts=20,scales=list(draw=F),xlab=NULL,ylab= NULL,col.regions=heat.colors(100)[100:1]),split=c(1,1,1,1),more=T) and then to add the contour plot (I only want a contour at level 5):
