memdisk and usb flash devices as primary hard drives.
Has anybody tried to boot a dos disk via memdisk with a usb flash device as a primary hard drive? I have a 512MB flash key that when connected becomes my primary hard drive (new bios) - 0x80. If I boot a MS-DOS 7.10 floppy, one gets the command prompt and I can see the contents of my flash key as drive C:. But, if I make a image of the floppy and boot the image via memdisk, then memdisk

Hard disk image to use with Memdisk
Hallo I would like to have an image of about 8Mb to boot with ISOLINUX and MEMDISK. I am not able to create an image complete of the MBR, as MEMDISK requires. I think I should emulate an 8Mb disk in memory or on a file, but I am able to do so only for a 'single partition'. Could you please suggest me a way to obtain the image? I can use Linux or Windows tools, it does not matter.

MEMDISK ISO Drive 0xE0
Good day Gert Hulselmans, You had reported to me at one point that MEMDISK -> .ISO -> ISOLINUX had failed under certain circumstances. I just noticed with a MEMDISK 3.86 that specifying the "iso" option on the command-line actually resulted in the .ISO getting BIOS drive number 0xFF. I had to specify "iso harddisk=224 pause" to confirm that it resulted in 0xE0 (hd96).

MEMDISK without floppy drive
I tried to use memdisk 2.06 to boot a floppy image on my notebook which doesn't have a floppy drive. The boot failed, because the bootstrap code tried to reset the floppy drive (int13, ah=00). Memdisk passes reset calls on to the original int13 handler, which returns failure, because there is no floppy drive to reset (#1). Also i noted that some boot records (notably some created by

unload memdisk+FreeDOS => local boot
Sensei H. Peter Anvin, I have successfully modified/enhanced memdisk so that one can chainload a local operating system after running diskless FreeDOS. I would like your advice regarding the appropriate interface for invoking this functionality. In addition, I would like to know what steps to take so that you feel comfortable considering including this in the standard syslinux distribution.

Isolinux CD to Hard drive
Hi, I've been using Isolinux Boot CD for a while now and it's working great. This weekend, I decided to install it on my hard drive so I can boot Isolinux of the Hard drive. I used the famous command : "syslinux -s c:" to initialize the drive then I copied all the .img file to that drive. Then I renamed the "isolinux.cfg" to "syslinux.cfg" to get to my

Problem with memdisk and Free FDISK
Sorry for the cross-post, but I do not know whether this is a bug in Free FDISK, memdisk, or neither. This problem is with Free FDISK 1.2.1 and memdisk 2.04. I am using PXELINUX+memdisk to boot to a virtual hard drive containing MS-DOS 6.22. This works fine; DOS boots and the virtual drive appears as C:. Now I want to use Free FDISK to partition the *physical* drive. But when I run any of the

Boot image from hard drive from syslinux initiated by a floppy disk boot
I have been trying to find the information by searching through the archives and google, so I am sorry if this question has been asked before I just have not been able to find an answer. I have a syslinux boot floppy which loads to the boot prompt, I wish to load a .gz image which is on my hd0 0 by using memdisk as the kernel. I have tried to kernel memdisk append root=/dev/hd0 0 (also just

Usin ISO Linux & Memdisk to create a Viritual Floppy drive that Linux & Windows can load driver disk from.
Hi, It is becoming a bad habit for big OEM vendors to sell computers & servers without floppy drives. Unfortunatly both Windows and Linux (RedHat) need a floppy drive to load storage drivers etc. during installation. This is what I was thinking: Use ISOLINUX and MEMDISK to load a floppy image of a driver disk into memory as a viritual floppy drive "A:"/"/dev/fda" And then

Memdisk doesn't work without floppy drive
Hi, I stumbled on a rather odd problem. A brand new HP Compaq dx2200 computer didn't want to boot up pxelinux+memdisk image. The computer just gave "Disk I/O error" and stopped there. Workaround was rather simple... Just attach regular floppy drive to the motherboard and everything started working fine. I tried with older 2.05 (pxelinux+memdisk) and newer 3.31. Both produced

SYSLINUX 3.32-pre4 released: MEMDISK floppy drive workaround
Hi all, I have pushed out a SYSLINUX 3.32-pre4. This version attempts to work around the "missing floppy drive" issue. If you have systems on which MEMDISK doesn't work without a floppy drive, I would appreciate it if you would test this out. -hpa

win98 on a second hard drive
Is it possible to configure syslinux.cfg on a floppy to start Win98 on a secondary hard drive? If so, how is this done? Currently I have Linux and Win98 on the primary hard drive, and when I attempt to use the floppy to start Win98 on the second hard drive, I simply start Win98 on the first drive. I have tried many different approaches, all to no avail, and I would really appreciate some
