When yum looks up the IP address it finds several but it will only try one and fail if that server is down or does not have the headers for whatever reason. After installing centos-yumconf-4-4.4.noarch.rpm together with the new yum packages, I was no longer able to use yum. In my case HTTP access is allowed only through a proxy. Hi, I need yum-arch on RHEL4, yum does not come with RHEL4 so I took the CentOS package, but this one requires a yumconf package (satisfied by centos-yumconf) which I thought was pretty strange.
