pxelinux multiple serial port setting
Hello We have computers which redirect COM2(ttyS1) to SOL(Searial console Over Lan). We have been using pxelinux to boot them with the following pxelinux.cfg/default setting. pxelinux.cfg/default serial 1 19200 console 1 prompt 0 timeout 100 default menu.c32 label Linux Diskless menu label ^Linux Diskless kernel menu.c32 append pxelinux.cfg/linux.menu label Bios Setup

Unwanted serial port interaction in pxelinux
I need to do some Windows device driver debugging using WinDbg from a second system over the serial port. The system PXE boots into a pxelinux menu first. I have observed that when the serial port is connected there are characters from the debugging system that are read and interpreted (as garbage) by pxelinux. Because of this, I am forced to stop the debugger or unplug the serial cable every

real serial port output from pxelinux.0
Hello, On a computer with a real serial port do I mis some output. It is 'real serial port' as opposed to virtual hardware. The text that I mis is 'My IP address seems to be' and the decreasing hexadecimal IP-adress staircase. The banner and the copyright message are displayed. pxelinux.cfg/default is fetched and its "SAY command" is shown. Have a look at this

no kbd via serial
I had an isolinux config that was working with Kontron CG2100s for serial console with console redirection enabled in the BIOS (and attaching via SOL through an Intel RMM3 module) - for some reason I had to set serial port 1 instead of 0 in the config (even though the physical port is 0, and the RMM is supposed to just be redirecting the physical port), but it worked. A tester on a different

Serial console with pxelinux on Soekris net4501
Hello, I have a Soekris net4501, which I'm PXE booting using pxelinux. Everything seems to be working splendidly, except for the fact that I can't seem to make pxelinux understand use the net4501's serial console port correctly. The net4501 uses the serial console as its primary interface; I'm using a null modem cable and minicom to operate with it. At boot, its startup

disabling serial in pxelinux
Hello from Vienna, Austria! I'm happily using pxelinux since years. However, I encountered problems on several machines, because they don't boot up properly with PXE. The problem is, that there are recently some devices connected to the serial ports of those machines. pxeboot echoes and listens to the serial console and the output of the menu results in (silly) input back from the

garbage on serial console after pxelinux.0 is loaded
A little more info: I was mistaken in saying that the garbage on the screen doesn't interfere with typed commands/stanzas; it does. If I can type the name of a stanza and hit enter quickly enough before the garbage is spat to the screen, it seems to start loading a kernel, but then it aborts. And the garbage appears to be varying quantities of '[0n', as in sometimes there will be one

GFXBoot & PXELinux
I understand the reasoning behind not integrating the dirty gfxboot patch into isolinux and pxelinux, but with many of the major distributions implementing gfxboot, it would be nice for a seamless boot interface across syslinux, isolinux and pxelinux so that the same menu file, look and feel, can be used to boot from the hard drive, USB thumb drive, floppy, or PXE. With isolinux being the primary

syslinux vs isolinux - com32 serial port output problem
Hi Geert, I'm building syslinux 6.04 from scratch to prevent any issues with mismatched com32 modules. This gives me a "pure" set of modules as well as "pure" isolinux and syslinux cores. menu.c32 works perfectly on both the USB and CD boot media: I can move around the menu and select the command that I wish to use. In all cases, both the USB and CD boot properly into

non-standard (PCI) Serial port
I'm trying to get isolinux serial port working on a system. Using UEFI boot mode but system does not have Legacy Serial port (3f8, etc) enabled. Serial port devices are PCI devices, memory mapped I/O with 32-bit offset. Using linux kernel command line console=uart8250,mmio32,xxxx,115200n8 works. However I do not see syslinux/isolinux boot menu. Looking through the code it looks like

ISOLinux + PXELinux
Is it possible to have a isolinux based boot CD, where one of the options is to boot off the network. This would mean, 1. The kernel that one boots into is on the network and not on the CD. So easy to make changes. 2. One does not need a 'PXE enabled' network card. - Murali

Can I use pxelinux to boot a cdrom image or isolinux from pxe?
Greetings, I've been a user and fan of SYSLINUX for a couple of years now. I use PXELINUX for a PXE server. I've only been able to boot linux kernel/initrd images and dos bootdisks, however now I'm wanting to create a boot image for the 'Rescue Is Possible' (RIP) linux recovery disk - http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/ Previous versions came with a

PXELinux and serial number
Anyone have an idea if it would be a huge effort to get pxelinux to look for config files based on serial number (available in DMI on modern motherboards), much like we currently can use MAC address's. Lots of our hardware comes with the serial number stuck on the chassis but not the mac address. We'd like to move to pxelinux and still use the serial number as the key for figuring which

Hi, I work on a solution for school including Eyeos and thinclient, iwant to convert syplinux ISO into syplinux Pxeboot, is there a way to do that ? Actually i'm using PXELINUX, When I boot the SYPLINUX.GZ (extract from the iso) I get this error : VFS: Cannit open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block(3,5) Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic -

Question: anyone seeing excessive lost characters on SYSLINUX over serial port?
Hi all, I have a user who is reporting excessive amounts of lost characters when using SYSLINUX (PXELINUX actually) over a serial port at 38400 bps. What is somewhat bizarre is that he has a very high quality server with a Cyclades board, and yet he's losing characters in the PXELINUX->server direction. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks, -hpa
