Push install printers from a samba server
Hi there. I was wondering if anyone had a link to a good tutorial (or docs) in regards to setting up a push install of printers (HP 4200N) from a samba server (CentOS 4) to a mixed windows (98,2k,xp) enviorment. Now I have been investigating using a BAT file in a logon script, but the results seem to be unpredictable (maybe i am usign them wrong?). Then permissions on the target machine seem to be

Disk space warning ("gdu-notification-daemon" type) for remote systems
//Hi,/ /I need to implement a system of disk space checks and warnings for a client-server setup running CentOS 6. Simply put, I just want a warning popup rather like the ones given by gdu-notification-daemon when server file system is full or nearly full, but they should appear on the client display(s) rather than locally, and must also work when nobody is logged directly in to the (server)

Centos kernel c headers [dnk]
Good day -- I am having a go at installing VMware on my centos 4.2 machine. I am going through the configuration script and I am getting to the part where I need the c headers for my kernel. What package do I need to install to make these available, and where are they installed to? I have been searching for this with little luck. Thanks in advance. Dustin

cloning drives
Good day everyone - This maybe somewhat OT, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good tool for cloning *nix drives. The one thing though is that I will be cloning a smaller drive than the destination drive and would like to distribute the free space accordingly on the new drive. Can anyone recommend anything? Thanks in advance. :::::::::::::::::::::: Dustin

Question about the remote Authentication in the libvirt Java bindings
Dustin: I am adding this response to the libvirt list as well so that others may see it. The authorization is done via a callback. The ConnectAuthDefault() that you are using is one such implementation. You could create your own subclass of ConnectAuth, and override the method: public abstract int callback(Credential[] cred); And then provide the username/password in that fashion. Look at

high number of processes
Hi, Sometimes a script kiddie tries to guess passwords on our mailserver (Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, postfix, dovecot 1.2.9, scanners, the standard stuff). That leads to a nagios message about the high number of processes. The number goes above 500. Nagios threshold is set to 250, which is more than enough for normal operation of this server. When are these processes supposed to die again? They seem to

VNC Remote Install Disk
Hey there - I have a tutorial i wrote for my own docs - not sure if you guys want it on the centos wiki. It is a custom centos server 4X disk in which the install connects to a remote listening VNC viewer. The purpose of this disk is simple - to be able to install a second system with centos without having to hook up a keyboard/mouse/monitor. This second machine is my test machine, and I

High load
Hi Is there a way to nail down the issue of high load on a server basically trying to understand the reason behind high load at a specific time period. I use top command but it does not have history. Nagios reports saying "*[04-25-2012 10:11:00] SERVICE ALERT: dev;LOAD;WARNING;HARD;3;WARNING - load average: 6.88, 6.36, 5.71"* * * Please help me understand. Regards Kaushal

Nagios Monitoring with xentop
I am creating some custom nagios plugins and I am scraping data from xen using the nagios command: /usr/sbin/xentop -b -i 2 -d1 I am trying to get the network tx / rx data, however I think I am missing something here. NETTX(k) NETRX(k) So total network bandwidth is 1048576 k if the above header from xentop is true. So I am wondering why the output for each vm exceeds the theoretical max, Is

Slightly OT - Winbind and remote authentication.
Hi I was doing some research on setting up a samba server for my internal network (as an alternative to NAS). The setup looks easy enough, but then I got to thinking - I already have an internet host with an mysql DB that has usernames and passwords and it would be simpler all round to reuse that as the authentication server. That server is also running Dovecot, so I thought it might be simpler

yum install nagios, adding dag repository
Hi, I'm running an Opteron 64 bit server, and in an effort to re-join it to my nagios monitoring, I have tried the install nagios via Yum. When I type: yum install nagios, or nagios-nrpe, or nagios-plugins, I get: "Nothing to do". as output. In wanting to add the DAG repository to my machine, the documentation i've come across seems vague. Can someone advise me on either of

Gathering EventLog Information from a remote server or workstation
Hi everyone, I've recently begun looking into ways of automating the monitoring of all my servers. Whilst most of the Linux/BSD stuff is sorted, I am having more difficulties gathing the details of the Windows Boxes. The main source of problems is how to retrieve the event log details from a remote machine. During my research I came across some old mailling list articules in 1999 regarding

access denied & Sid does not start with 'S-'.
Hi there. For some reason I am getting permission denied errors on a new samba server. I can add machines to the domain, I can login with any user id's and so on as well. But when I try connecting to a public share, or the users home directory, I get a user denied error. "\\Fileserver\user is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. list_add corruption problem
Howdy, I've got a CentOS 7 VM that occasionally becomes unresponsive. There's a "list_add corruption" entry in /var/log/messages, included below. This is on VMware. We have lots of other VMs which are running just fine. Only a few are CentOS 7 VMs, though, so I can't rule out some kind of environment issue. It's up-to-date on OS patches, and running kernel
